Apparently if you are not a fame seeking, publicity driven, narcissistic need everyone to look at me right this second kind of celebrity, you can get married in secret and kept it a secret for almost half of a year, even in a huge media market like New York. According to the NY Post, this is exactly what Mike Myers and his long time girlfriend Kelly Tisdale did. The couple, who, have been dating since 2006, got married five months ago in what Myers' rep said was a beautiful ceremony. Huh. No pictures, no pap swarms, no cover of People. Just two people getting married and not thinking less of themselves because the entire world did not know. I wish them well and also wish some celebrities would take a lesson out of this and realize that you don't need to do everything in front of a camera.
Did I miss something?!?! I thought MM went gay after his divorce from his long time wife??? Well that was the rumor going around.

I don't know (or care) about his sexuality but he seems like a really nice guy. He was at a show last year that my husband's band played in (husband's band=opening act) and was very pleasant, lowkey, etc., even among all the gawkers. He just seems decent. Mazel tov!
ReplyDeleteMy faith in blind gossip just took a big hit. Why would a gay hollywod star divorce his wife only to marry another woman secretly if he was gay? It's not like he's even using this woman as a beard. I never even knew he had a girlfriend...for 5 years nonetheless!

I don't think he's gay. At this stage in the life and career of Mike Myers, why would he feel a need to be closeted? He has never really been a leading man in the romantic sense, although I loved him in the very underated "So I Married an Axe-Murderer". The Shrek movies have run their course, so I doubt he's worried about scaring off the "family" audience. I don't see where being openly gay would affect his career at all. If he bothered to get married again, I believe it is the real thing. Plus, if it was a beard thing, wouldn't he have wanted to make a big deal about it? And have Kneepads there to shout to the whole world "Look at Me!! See how hetero I am!!"

@ RJ - I loved "So I Married an Axe-Murderer" too! I always thought he should have made a movie featuring the Scottish parents. Oh, and worked Anthony LaPaglia in it. He was great in that movie also.

ReplyDeleteI also thought I remembered Enty saying something about Mike Myers being gay, or at least bisexual. If i'm confused about this, it appears I am far from alone.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that like all great comediens, he lacks self-esteem, and beats himself up emotionally. I think he also suffers from depression as well, at least that's what I've gathered in how he struggles. But I still don't believe he is gay.

ReplyDeleteI used to know his best friend, Dave McKenzie. Dave and his friends were super nice and never let on that they even knew Mike.
And I know quite a few people who worked at Second City when Mike was there. All had good things to say.
However, Lainey outed him and it appears he did go through a period of behaving like an asshole, if she is to be believed. Hope he found his way back to decency. Sounds like it.
There was a blind item about a male comedian who was really into cross dressing that I thought was highly believed to be Myers - which of course doesn't disqualify him from being either straight or gay.

ReplyDeleteSue Ellen - I went to high school with him. Sweetest guy ever. Got me out of a potentially embarrassing situation. Never heard a bad word about him. He didn't say too much but when he did it was funny.
ReplyDeleteJamie's Girl - he was *very* shy in high school. I think people misinterpret shyness for other things (eg, stuck up, or depressed).
The rumours may be true, but I'll believe when he says so, not until then.
