Meredith Baxter Says Her Husband Hit Her
Meredith Baxter is on the road promoting her new book. In her book she says that her ex-husband David Birney hit her more than once. "It was so sudden and unexpected, I couldn't tell you which hand hit me, or even how hard. I do recall thinking, 'I'd better not get up because he's going to hit me again.' "
For his part, David Birney denies ever hitting his ex. No one has got around to interviewing the couple's three kids but they would probably have an idea of who is telling the truth. I always side with the victims in this because I think it takes courage to stand up and say what happened and you know it is going to be the focus of her book, no matter what else is in there. I do hope her kids never had to see her getting hit and they were not subjected to violence either.
I feel bad for her, but the timing? Probably not the most couth.
ReplyDeleteWhy now ? To sell books...
ReplyDeleteanyway if it's true that's sad.
How old can she be....her skin looks like she lived in the Sahara her entire life...
Didn't she come out with this when they first divorced years ago?
ReplyDeleteI think it's rather refreshing to see a woman in Hollywood actually accept that she's aging. Wrinkles? We all get 'em, if we're lucky enough to live that long. *shrugs*
ReplyDeleteI think she has more than her share of wrinkles. And agree, the timing is bad.
ReplyDeleteIf she battled alcoholism, then that would explain the extra wrinkles? Sun bathing? Whatever, she's alive.
ReplyDeleteI think this came out when they were divorcing as well. She is also now in a Lesbian relationship and seems to be happy. Everyone deserves to be as far as I am concerned. Life is short.
ReplyDeleteI think what annoys me is that with those kinds of statements she reinforces the prejudice that lesbians are women who couldn't find the right man or were treated badly (verbally and physically abused) by men and thus can easily become heterosexual again if they only find the right man.
ReplyDeleteSo this turned her a lesbian? I call BS.
ReplyDeleteI believe this came out when they got divorced. Can't remember how long they were married.
ReplyDelete@Jamie's Girl -- where in THE HELL did you get that impression? Just wondering, because this post doesn't even mention her sexuality.
ReplyDeleteAnyway.
If she just wrote an autobiography, it stands to reason that there would be some details in it not previously known to the general public. And it's also reasonable that she should make the rounds to discuss the book and some of its more explosive content. It's hardly unsurprising.
I mean, this is MEREDITH BAXTER we're talking about. Family Ties? Lifetime movies? Her twilight lesbianism is basically the most exciting thing *about* her. She HAD to toss in a few more scandalous personal anecdotes.
it's not like David Birney is famous anymore...she has nothing to gain from saying he hit her. I believe her.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like there was something about abuse when they split. I guess Birney has a temper.
ReplyDeleteI get tired of these types of things coming out when there's something to promote. They've been apart for years now so why tell it now?
Oh ya, there are books to sell.
Old news and they split years ago.

=====================
She came out as a lesbian years ago and blamed it on 3 marriages with men.
@Jamie's Girl
ReplyDelete"She came out as a lesbian years ago and blamed it on 3 marriages with men"
I call bullshit on that one. She came out as a lesbian about a decade ago after she began dating women. It's not as if her failed marriages drove her to change her sexuality.
Some women are lesbians because they simply prefer to interact sexually with other women -- NOT because some asshole man ~drove them to it.~
Where are y'all getting your information. She came out on the Today Show with Matt Lauer back in December, 2009.
ReplyDeleteShe made it clear she was never a lesbian until after the 3 marriages. She made that statement.
Jamie's girl---It's okay to bemoan that she fulfills an ugly stereotype without TOTALLY mis-characterizing her prior remarks about her sexuality and her marriages.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Today show interview. That is NOT what she said. She said she never suspected that she could be with a woman, and did NOT feel that her marriages had direct effect on her deciding to date a woman later in life. She said her bad choices in marriage may have been related to her being a lesbian and not knowing it, not the other way round.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it happens with women who are bi later in life; they fall in love with their girl friend. In MB's generation, people weren't as aware of the 'sliding scale,' so to speak.
ReplyDelete@ Jaimie's Girl
ReplyDeleteSometimes it takes a person a long time to come to terms with, accept and finally, act on their sexuality.
Your statement, "So this turned her a lesbian" is out of touch. Turned? Really?
I don't see how the revelation of abuse/book sales is all that shocking.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I started watching re-runs of Family Ties a few weeks ago. Used to love that show so much.
Cha-la-la-lh.....
I admire Meredith Baxter, but she promotes her own skin care line, and is air brushed to death on the advertisements. Honestly, I don't see how she can push skin products. She isn't that old, but her products don't really seem to be helping her.
