Katie Holmes Suing Star

According to The Wrap, Katie Holmes, is going to sue Star today for $50M. The subject of the suit is the cover above which suggests that Katie uses drugs. I picked up that issue at the check out counter and and was dismayed that the drugs Star refers to is Katie being addicted to the high she gets from e-meters. I would think Scientology would have a suit, but I am not sure about Katie. Nowhere does it actually say she uses drugs so it will be tough for her to win. Plus, there is no way on this earth that she suffered $50M in damages. With or without the story Katie would be really lucky to earn $50M as an actress if she had two or three lifetimes to try and earn it.

  1. Gotta love the punative damage laws in America. Goooooooooooo frivolous lawsuits!

  2. If she gets that, there are about 200 law suits just waiting to happen. These mags make shit up all the time - nobody believes them, surely?

  3. all they need is two independent sources and they are covered legally.

Personally, I would need to be pretty stoned out to deal with Tom 24/7.

  4. Oh please. She needs to focus on something more positive and possibly more attainable, like a divorce.

  5. Honestly, I'd love to see the results of her blood screen (done by an independent lab).
    Just for clarity's sake y'know.

  10. In the situation she's in, who WOULDN'T use drugs?

  11. I agree with timebob. Of course she's on drugs. Who could blame her? Here's a theory - maybe Tommy is drugging her against her will so he can keep her compliant.

  15. I don't care what the actual article says, that headline screams to anyone who glances at the cover in a grocery store that she's on drugs. Good for her for suing - I hope she wins.

Jessica, yes, it's the last one, so you can go away now.

I would be pissed enough to sue as well. That cover makes her look like a drug addict and they did it to sell their rag mag. It is bad enough she is married to Tommy Boy and has to go to the Scientolocult. But, you have got to draw the line somewhere and call bs.

  20. The Scientology critic websites used to have discussions occasionally about whether or not the e-meter had strange effects on people. You're holding the cans for hours on end with a slight voltage passing through you while you reveal your innermost thoughts and feelings -- Is there a biofeedback/electrical loop being set up? I don't like to think of Holmes being married to Cruise, and I totally don't like the idea of her "hooked" on auditing. Boo!

  21. Are you actually a lawyer?

The cover stands by itself, any repetition in the text cannot excuse but can aggravate!

"Drugs" affects her capacity to appear on set etc and can easily be verified by affidavits from producers who will say they have a policy to not employ anyone who takes or breaks their morality clause ....

Where did you get your JD or other qualification?

  22. The cover is completely misleading but I don't know enough about the law to say whether she'd win or not.

$50 million seems like a lot....
