American Idol - Where Are They Now?
I went over to Life & Style looking for some dirt, but what I got were a bunch of recaps of past American Idol contestants. I thought it would be boring but I kept reading them and flipping through and before I knew it I was finished. When I was reading them it was kind of sad. The contestants were all happy to talk about Idol, but to me it was kind of like listening to some kid who peaked in high school. They kept reliving that time and were kind of stuck. It is like once these people had a taste of fame they thought they would be famous forever and most of them have not really forgot that taste and want to try and hold on.
Sanjaya is just a guy who had lightning strike about a million times to get where he is today. He is on Broadway which is amazing considering he was not that great on the show. This is a guy who took the time on Idol and realized he needed to make something out of the opportunity given to him and he seems to be working hard which is great. Then you read about some of the others and they talk about possible film deals and how they want to record an album and they are just dreaming and will probably keep dreaming. Someone should do an in depth look at the top 12 from each season and see what they are doing now.
I keep hoping to hear from Siobhan Magnus from last season. If she could ever master that monster voice of hers she could be something special. Nothing yet though.
ReplyDeleteIt would probably be like that show about folks who won the lottery. Glad Sanjaya had the good sense to make something of it. Good for him!
ReplyDeleteI've hardly ever seen AI because it annoys me, but I saw Sanjaya on that "I'm a celeb, get me out of here" mess that also featured the Twatts, and he seemed like a genuinely good-hearted guy. Good for him.
ReplyDeleteSanjaya's sister worked at the Hooter's by my place when he was on the show... WOW is she unfortunate looking. She's the female version of him. Eek :/
ReplyDeleteIt's not a Broadway show he's in, it's off-Broadway.
ReplyDeleteI liked Sanjaya..thought he was a sweet kid on that I'm a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here show.
ReplyDeleteI remember hearing that Ruben Studdard wasn't willing to do shows and promote his album even though he won. Clay Aiken came in second and has had a better career.
ReplyDelete@Juicy -- awww. I always thought his sister was cute in a strange kinda bug-eyed way.
ReplyDeleteGood for Sanjaya. I guess Idol dashed his dreams of superstardom, and that's a good thing, because he totally sucked. He knows his station in life, he's totally happy with it, and he's not going to have his hopes crushed.
I have never really followed AI before this season, and I'm actually pleasantly surprised at the variety of singers. There are some in this years top 24 that are really different from what we've seen before. Some serious talent too!
ReplyDeleteDon't watch the show but Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert don't make me throw my back out lunging for the radio tuner to change stations. I don't think any but Kelly won their season.
ReplyDelete@looserdude - I loved Siobhan too...
ReplyDelete@Maja - Agree! I am digging Paul McDonald & Casey Abrams.
Sanjaya was a sweetheart on AI but he could NOT sing. I'm seriously surprised about the Broadway thing..maybe he should pursue acting instead??
