Your Turn

I have been getting a lot of requests to have a plug anything you want to plug Your Turn so here is your chance. Recipes, bands, clubs, music, videos, movies, products, anything you want you can do it all right here. Oh, and also I want to know if you have ever bought anything from an infomercial. My mom has bought so much stuff that my dad went and bought a storage shed. The contents of the shed looks like an As Seen On TV catalog.

  1. Oh this should be fun. Never bought anything off an infomercial. Hate them. I have an uncle who is addicted. How many pink plastic flamingos can you have?

  2. I actually bought an Instyler from an infomercial. It's the hair straightener that looks like a big curling iron, only the barrel revolves.

It is freaking fantastic. They sell them in stores now, and they are amazing. Highly recommended.

  3. I also own a cardio glide that was on infomercial, but I got it at a garage sale for $10. Also really great, it works out your whole body at one time. I quite like it.

Heck, I also own one of those exercise boards that Christie Brinkley and Chuck Norris and Wesley Snipes do the adverts for.
It is just as advertised, works you out really well. Love it.

  4. Aww, Enty, you are nice to do this b/c I think you did this not too long ago. I didn't plug anything, but I will now. :)

I'm graduating soon with a degree in web design so if anyone needs a website built, I will be happy to help!

I am not as bad as Enty's mom but we have lots of As Seen on TV products. I think the one I got most excited about in the last few years was the Perfect Brownie Pan b/c I imagined making them & having everyone take one (by my imaginary pool) as soon as I put them out on the table. :)

  8. Nothing to plug but I seriously want to buy one of those Miracle Hanger thingies or whatever they're called. They hold around 10 pieces of clothing but collapse so that only one hook is on the rail?? Sorely needed since my bf refuses to give me ALL the space in the closet. Selfish bastard.

  9. OOH Ms. snarky..the Instyler really works? I totally want one.

Yes there used to be a "As seen on TV store" near me that I frequented often. I bought a pasta grabber that into a spatula, some glue stick that turned in cement, the handheld sewing machine (that didnt work) and some other junk I cant remember.

I did receive from my mom for christmas The "Cami" which is like a dicky to go under a tanktop.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ms Snarky, good to know! That thing fascinates me and I've been resisting the urge to buy it now that it is "in store".

  11. ok, Enty, I'm going to take you up on your invite to plug something. My blog (with two of my dear friends), Rockeras Sin Fronteras (Lady Rockers Without Borders), www.rockeras-sin-fronteras.blogspot.com. Its about Spanish Rock, global politics, and the occasional personal story/rant. Its politically left, centered on our love for music and art, and oh so right in all the right places! Check it out... Much love to all CDAN readers.

  15. There's a supermarket chain in my area that has an "As Seen on TV" section in one aisle...everything from the Veg-o-Matic to the Snuggie. One thing I do want to try? The unit you plug into your cell phone that turns you car radio into your phone. That seems kinda cool.

  19. Rocket Queen-The Wonder Hanger? So funny I got one for Christmas and never took it out of the box! You can get them at Bed Bath and Beyond for 9.99. I just checked the website and saw them.
I obviously love research! I wish I could get a job doing that...

    ReplyDelete
  20. @ RQ - I think that there are two types of those hanger thingies. One type is plastic, and those apparently suck. The other type is metal and is (allegedly) a superior product.

I look for reviews online for just about anything I purchase anymore. Amazon is a great place to read reviews.

Once I bought a rotating scrubbing brush (for cleaning jobs like bathroom tile/grout, etc.) and it SUCKED! What they didn't mention was that you have to hold your finger down on the on switch the entire time. No ON/OFF switch. After barely a minute my hand was aching. Luckily I got it at a Bed Bath and Beyond, so I returned that POS.

  24. @girltrav - yes! Wonderhanger! Thank you! I keep waiting for the commercial to come on so I can write down the info, but now that I have the name, maybe I can track it down online since we don't have a Bed, Bath and Beyond in Vancouver (I don't think?)
But now that Mango mentions the plastic ones suck, I think I'll go with the metal!

  25. Texas Realtor here! Let me know if I can be of assistance. Everyone thinks that they can be their own realtor, but I had 2 of the worst cases I have seen in a long time, and I was able to bring the deals 'right side up', but only with excellent communication and course redirection.

  26. I have never bought anything from an infomercial, but my mom is totally into it, thus, I often get items as gifts. The only thing I really love is the under door thingy..can't think of the name..it's cheap as hell but it works for me.

I've nothing to plug really. Hmmm, ummm, maybe this actually:

  28. I did buy a Tony Little Gazelle at Walmart after seeing it on TV. It's good but gets more use as a clothes rack in our bedroom.... My mother bought me the Magic Bullet (great), the BT Express (great until the non stick finish wore off in about a month) and my MIL just gave me the Slap Chop (which smashes things more than chops) and the Gratey, which is ok based on the 1 time I used it. I don't cook well but I can paint really nicely. Check out my dishwasher safe wine and martini glasses on lynettesadowystudios.artfire.com

  32. I would love any smokers out there who want to quit to try the e-cigs I have been smoking. They are awesome! www.v2cigs.com

If you use my discount code of 61052 you will get 15% off of your purchase.

If you smoke non-filters order full. If you smoke regular cigs order medium. If you smoke lights order light. If you smoke Marlboro get Cowboy. If you smoke Parliament get Congress. The coffe, chocolate and vanilla flavors are incredible! If you smoke menthol, I would recommend the menthol flavor or peppermint. I actually enjoy the peppermint myself and I am a regular flavor smoker.

I have not had a regular cigarette in almost one month and haven't had a desire. As a matter of fact, I still have a full pack of smokes sitting around somewhere that I never even smoked.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  33. @RocketQueen-I bought those years ago and they sucked. They didn't really create much more room and they broke easily. Plus it was difficult to get stuff on and off the things. The stuff still bunches even though it collapses down, if you know what I mean. It still takes up room, but it's just lower. Hard to explain.

Back in September I started My own gossip website - it's something I pretty much do for myself, but I've gotten some pretty good feedback. I'm also looking for a designer to help me out. I'm trying to learn wordpress currently - I figure next week I'll be removing all content, starting rom scratch and uploading it all to WP. We'll see how that goes. Rocky Mountain Kid was created in 2008. After the arrival our daughter Cadence we wanted to continue our outdoor pursuits and share the fun with her too. It took us some time, and trips to many different retailers to find the right gear for our adventures. We thought wouldn't it be great if parents could find all this great gear in one place, and so Rocky Mountain Kid was born. Rocky Mountain Kid's goal is to provide you with quality clothing and accessories necessary for your active children. At RMK, we strive to make your online shopping experience a quick and pleasurable one, so you can get back outside to play.

Yes, damn my black soul for being so tired, suspect and jaded, but from the Maddie James website itself:

© Maddie James Foundation - The Maddie James Foundation is a pending nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and its application for exempt status has, as of the date hereof, not been approved by the Internal Revenue Service. However, your donation will be fully tax deductible retroactively... upon the IRS’s approval of The Maddie James Foundation’s 501(c)(3) status.

Give if your heart tells you to, but I've been burned too many times to donate $$$ to a charity without thoroughly researching it.

Their music is really good. Shades of classic rock, shades of punk, shades of singer/songwriter/folk, shades of pop. They offered up their first record for free download. They're too broke to travel to the West Coast. They're all really nice guys.

I really strongly encourage anyone who's read this far down to at least check them out. They're at SXSW this year. I wish they could get more exposure, because I feel like most people would like their music.

One of the only criticisms we get back is that my lead actress doesn't look 15, which I find to be an annoying, out of date viewpoint. Knew YOU would all get what 15 year old girl I was representing after seeing your comments about the youngest Jenner/Kardashian ladies! <3

  93. I secretly LOVE infomercial items...but I only allow myself to buy them at Rite Aid if I have a coupon for them (and I get a discount with their Wellness card) :) My favorite so far? The bottle tops thingys for your soda cans...love them!

I'll take a second to plug my coupon website - it's my other guilty pleasure besides celebrity gossip :)

  94. Mango (and anyone else similarly concerned) - I can assure you this is very real and legitimate. God, how I wish it weren't true.

    Nevertheless, I understand your concern.

My daughter was diagnosed on January 16. Once we got over the shock, our immediate thought was to form this foundation. Using a lawyer and all correct channels, the non-profit entity was formed, articles of incorporation filed with the State of California, and the 501c3 application submitted to the IRS. Unfortunately, the IRS is a lumbering beast and the approval takes time. There is no risk it will not be approved; it just has to wind its way through the bureaucracy. Our lawyer informed us that it will be approved within 2 to 6 months. All donations will be retroactively deductible and we will inform all donors when that approval has been given.

If you have any questions or concerns, please just let me know. In the meantime, please pray for my little girl.

  99. On March 7 at 5:30pm PST I'm launching a half-hour weekly Internet radio show on BlogTalkRadio at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/myyukonlife called My Yukon Life.

Every Monday evening I'll be broadcasting live from my remote log cabin in the Yukon. The show will be similar in some ways to Chris in the Morning's radio show on Northern Exposure, except, my show is real.

Each week I'll be reporting on life in the Yukon with interviews of bush pilots, prospectors, dog mushers, local musicians, and other fascinating Yukoners.

Please visit www.MyYukonLife.com for more details.

  100. I don't think I can pass this up. Okay, infomercial purchase was a Pilates DVD (it's gathering dust ...) - first and last time I'll fall for an infomercial!

And now for my plug. I'm overwhelmingly excited to say I've had my first book published. Like cupcakes? Like a bit of chick-lit? Check out TAKE THE CAKE at www.sandrawright.com.au

  103. Lana, thank you so much for sharing!

Hi, all -- a bit late here. I do miss commenting on the blog, but it's a bit tough to do it regularly while in Southeast Asia.

I am a twenty-something girl from Boston currently in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, and am traveling Southeast Asia solo through May (or so). My site encourages women to go after their dreams and travel.

I also have lots of crazy stories to tell.

    Hope you like it!

  104. An amazing little indie movie: WHITE IRISH DRINKERS. Written and directed by John Gray, creator of Ghost Whisperer, set in 1975 Brooklyn. A coming of age story with some really unexpected twists in the plot and ending.

Opens March 25th in Boston, NYC and LA; check the website www.whiteirishdrinkersthemovie.com for other cities, dates and theaters (Landmark Chain is running it).

It was a Toronto Film Festival selection, won the Audience Award at Woodstock, was in Torino, Columbia, and Atlanta fests (Atlanta is coming up) and also a finalist for the Audience Genius Award at the Gotham Festival.

Stars Stephen Lang (you know, the bad guy colonel from AVATAR), Karen Allen (Indiana Jones) and Peter Reigert (everything), and introduces some incredible young newcomers: Leslie Murphy, Geoff Wigdor and especially Nick Thurston. Check out reviews and audience reactions on the website. Trailer is on iTunes.
