Jessica Simpson And Michael Kors Equals In Fashion
New York Magazine has an interesting piece on the fashion of Jessica Simpson. While her music career has faltered at seemingly every turn, her fashion empire has exploded. I knew it was doing well, but last year her sales clocked in at $750M which puts her at roughly the same amount of sales as Michael Kors. Yep, the same Michael Kors who is a judge on Project Runway.
Apparently Jessica examines each piece and it only gets sold when she says approved. The only Jessica Simpson fashion accessory I can swear that I have seen is her perfume. However that is just the tip of the iceberg. Her clothes which include a ready to wear line this year will include a career separates line. What kind of career she does not say, but with the additions, Jessica is supposed to hit the $1B mark in sales. That is a whole lot of clothes. I am happy for her. She could have just gone away when her singing did not go as she had planned and people make fun of her relationships, but she has stuck with the fashion and I think it is great. Maybe she can give Ashlee a job. You know Pimpa probably has a great time assisting the models with the clothes.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - her shoes are so so comfortable! And they're at a good price point so I can see why she's raking in the money.
ReplyDeleteYou can buy 457 Jessica Simpson pieces for the same price as one Michael Kors.
ReplyDeleteHaven't been in a fashion store for ages, and saw some of her line just the other day! - Have to say I quite liked it - good for her ! Apart from having a questionable taste in men she seems like a nice person. (Unlike asslee)
ReplyDeleteWell deserved, she earned it!
ReplyDeleteAnd if she wants a kept man, more power to her. Just make him sign airtight contracts, darling!
@nichole - where do you find them? Are they in major dept stores? I'm always looking for comfy shoes and I'm getting the impression her shoes cost way less than I'm currently paying.
ReplyDelete@nichole - yes, I too have bought her shoes - they are always in style, cute and won't break the bank.
ReplyDeleteAnd, and same goes with her purses/bags - I have one that I get compliments on all the time.
Good for her.
Totally agree Nichole- her shoes are super comfortable and really cute.
ReplyDeleteJessica may not be Ashley, but I think that she has her own issues btw. She has a knack for fashion, but I don't believe she's knowledgeable about much else.
ReplyDeleteBut she's loaded and doesn't care.
@mikey - macy's, tj maxx, marshalls, dsw, dillards, zappos, shoes.com - just about anywhere. I get most of mine at dsw. My sister finds hers mainly at tj maxx and marshalls.
ReplyDeleteThis does go a long way towards explaining how she can afford a 10k a month boy toy, not to mention a boulder of an engagement ring.
ReplyDeleteAgain, i will never ever give a Simpson any of my money. You think Papa Joe isn't getting any of it?
ReplyDeleteI won't but any celeb product.
The thing I find most confusing about her Fashion Empire is the fact that Jessica makes herself look fat in 90% of what she wears. Who wants to dress like her?
ReplyDeleteSaw these and bought them yesterday. Wearing them today.

Agree parissucks. Same with the Olsons....why would I buy any of their stuff when they look like bag ladies?
ReplyDeleteoh, and I have bought them at Dillard's and DSW. Dillard's yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy celeb clothes either. But, I think she is probably a nice person.
ReplyDeleteI am sure she is a nice person too, but remember how overexposed she was about 4 years ago? she made me sick....lol
ReplyDeleteWhy not buy something from J.Lo? Avril Levigne?
no way in hell will I give any of those people one dime of my money!
Isn't her fasion basically a licensing agreement? It sounds like she is shown designs and picks what she likes. I don't think she designs one stitch of it and probablly doesn't even know what understitching or a dart is. Much less when to use it.
ReplyDeleteI see her stuff at Dillards.
Chiming in to say that I too, LOVE her shoes. I have such issues with my feet and finding comfortable shoes, but hers are very reasonably priced, fit well - no having to "break them in" first, and are very cushiony. Get mine on piperlime, but as others have said, they are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThis comment was posted on Celebitchy about this article. And I think it says volumes.
ReplyDelete"The only one who deserves credit for whatever this line is selling is the CEO of the company that owns her name, Vince Camuto. He’s the one that has to sell her name to real designers after she continues to do things to maintain her clown status on gossip blogs.
I really wonder if the line is profitable. It seems like every week there is another story about how it has sold 750 million which is meaningless. It doesn’t matter how much it sold. It only matters how much it profits.
This Vince Camuto has started his own fashion line. Maybe he’s planning on cutting Jessica loose, hoping his own line will make a profit since he won’t have to pay Jessica for all her bad press"
I don't know if her line is good (though it seems like it is) because they don't sell them where I live but I think that she made a smart move and associated with good people to succeed.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to her. She doesn't deserve to have a father like Pimpa Joe. Nobody does.
ReplyDeleteClown is the perfect word to describe her. I think she is willfully stupid. However, I will attest to the lovely, comfortable shoes that bear her name.
ReplyDeletei have a few friends that swear by her shoes and while i have never purchased anything of her's, i have often seen jewelery, clothes and shoes online/in stores that i would purchase.
ReplyDeleteThere's no way Jessica does any of the designing, she's just the spokesman for the line. It's the same thing as having a celeb do commercials for a product, so why not buy them?
ReplyDeleteThumbs up on the shoes - whether she designs them herself or not! I'm happy for her!
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of her shoes.. they're the only shoes I have ever had that make my feet look small! (I wear a size 10-11)
ReplyDeleteShe's not the sharpest knife in the drawer but she does appear to be genuinely nice and I've never heard of her acting out, stiffing waitstaff or being rude to her employees.
ReplyDeleteholy photoshopped legs

ReplyDeleteI don't own any of her shoes, but in our local dept store (we have only one...) they sell her shoe line and I always think they look both good AND comfortable (for high heels).
ReplyDeleteI totally believe she is selling the living SH*T outta some merch.
Rock on, Jess! And do that Playboy spread before you get too old. You'll knock everyone's eyeballs outta their heads.
I have one of her purses, and a lady in my office bought the same purse at a different store. Love it.
ReplyDeleteHer shoes are terrific. Best place to find them (if they're still in stock at all - they tend to sell out fast!) is on Amazon. She also has very nice sunglasses.
ReplyDeleteEven if she's not directly behind everything produced in her name, she should get credit for picking designers who do good work. Most celebrity product lines are awful.
I LOVE HER LINE OF items! She is awesome with her shoes and purses! Her shoes are definitely made by a woman, and so are her purses. I think she is a gold mine, and I will always buy her stuff. It is very stylish and always near $100, either under or over.
ReplyDeleteITA, ariedana. Since I can't afford couture, this will have to do. :)
ReplyDeleteHer shoes and bags are sold at the px here on post. The shoes aren't what I would wear everyday but the purses are cute and trendy. I saw one from across the aisle and was surprised to see that it was one of hers. If it didn't say Jessica Simpson on it I would consider buying it.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love her line of shoes. They are cute, stylish, comfortable and most importantly they don't leave me for broke. I don't own any clothing items of hers other than the shoes, but what I've seen really isn't all that bad. I think homegirl's niche is definitely fashion.
ReplyDeleteAlso I don't think she still has her cosmetic line (the one that was "edible"- anyone remember that?) but I still have a few items from it as well that I love. I've always had a soft spot for Jessica. It's her obnoxious, untalented little sister that I can't stand. Pete should be doing cartwheels right now.
People that make fun of her relationships shouldn't be worried about who is supporting whom. Good for her! I also don't think she looks fat at all, I think she looks cute.
ReplyDeleteThe ones that I've seen in Macy's are tacky and are way too high. But since some of you ladies say they're comfy, I'll look them up online and see some other styles...
ReplyDeleteThe link to the one I bought (posted above) is a fairly low heel and I've been in them all day and still comfy!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's the shoes. I buy them alot. Comfortable 4-inch platform wedges are hard to find. That wasn't a joke. Love her flats, too. I love Michael Kors, too, but whereas I drop a cool 500 for one of his bags and 3/400 for his "mid price" Kors shoes, I can buy alot of Jessica Simpson shoes for that price. So I buy Jessica Simpson without even blinking every season - and Michael Kors... maybe one every 3 or 4 years.
ReplyDeleteNow tell me who is the smarter business person - MK or JS?
They sell her shoe line at Nordstrom. That says alot.
ReplyDeleteHer shoes are cute but I can't bring myself to spend a dime on anything with her name on it. Go to Nine West instead.
