Guitar Hero Is No More
It seems like only yesterday that everyone was all abuzz about Guitar Hero. Strangers would meet at a mall and the next thing you know they were back at a house playing the game. Everyone loved it and everyone played it, but it has been announced the title will be no more and Activision laid off 500 people in the Guitar Hero division. The problem with the game was the licensing fees. Huge amounts of money were paid out and it just got too expensive. Considering how much extra record sales bands got from the appearance in the games they just kept jacking up the license fees to the point where it no longer was making any money.
Well that, and the market was oversaturated with music games and Guitar Hero failed to evolve or adapt like Rock Band did, not to mention Harmonix has been going through all kinds of management and ownership changes due to their declining sales for the past two and a half years...
ReplyDeleteNot only that, but there was no repeat business, really.
ReplyDeleteThat's OK...we still have ours and love it.
ReplyDeleteI love Guitar Hero. I'm sad to read this.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad, it was the only video game I've ever been decent at.
ReplyDeleteWell good work then artists. You jacked up your prices so much you put Guitar hero out of business and now no more increased record sales because people play guitar hero and then go buy your albums. Well done. It's stuff like this that makes me want to illegally download all my music.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we bought ours when it was all the rage & played it like...once? We tended to only like to play it with friends when drunk, so it kind of hindered my playing abilities.
