Do We Need Another Talent Show?

Mark Burnett's new NBC show The Voice has some judges. They are supposedly going to include Cee-Lo Green and Adam Levine. Both good choices, but in my opinion the world needs another talent show like it needs a Kardashian holiday Christmas show. Oh, I hope I didn't put that out there Secret wise. Can you take those things back or are they out there forever? American Idol is already lower in its ratings than it has ever been. X Factor starts soon. Throw in The Voice and the various dance competitions and America's Got Talent and I think the genre has pretty much run its course. What would make all of this truly come full circle is if we could somehow combine vampires singing while competing on primetime game show.

  1. I think it's time to go back to cartoons. Like another South Park. Simpsons? Something like that, instead of the real people. Wouldn't that be cheaper - because it's always about the money. That's why we have all this cheap entertainment instead of anything quality now.

  2. Ugh. No more. Please. If anything, Paula Abdul's flop proved there's only so much room for MORE OF THE SAME.

  3. Yeah, but then we'd have about a dozen MORE Seth MacFarlane shows, and I personally would vomit.

Network television is an absolute cesspool. I can't wait until Idol dies -- not to mention all those insipid dancing shows.

  4. Adam Levine is my very dirty sex fantasy. But I have a hard time listening to him speak. I have no reason to believe that he and CeeLo Green have any knowledge of vocal talent just because they are pop stars (which is 50% marketing anyway, right?).

  5. Enty, if that nightmare of a show featuring Those Who I Refuse to Name goes into production, I'm issuing you fair warning you're *so* off the Christmas list.

  6. Cartoons??? The Cartoon Network now has live action shows. Going the route of MTV, when they stopped playing music.

I don't get Admin Levine. When Maroon 5 performed on American Idol a couple years ago he sounded absolutely awful live.

  7. Enty, bite your tongue!
I'm certain some executive at E! has already formulated plans for a Kolossal Kardashian Khristmas extravaganza, like the heart-warming Nick and Jessica special from a few years back. And by heart-warming, I mean heartburn...

  8. And by the way, when is this vampire/zombie thing going to run its course? It's entering Betty White territory.

  9. No. We don't. Please, for the love of god, STOP ALREADY with this crap.

    Love Cee-lo Green, though.

  10. @Robert, can we add pirates to your astute list of stuff that's completely played-out?

I keep waiting for vikings to become the next hot trend.

  12. LOL @ Vampires singing

The thing about being a host on this kind of show is that it makes them seem kind of needy and that they don't have much else going on. If JLo's empire was going as well as she would like us to believe, would she had time to host Idol? A few years ago she was too busy. Now, not so much.

  15. Yes, Mooshki, I love Betty as well, but took issue with the media overkill. I want to keep liking her, that's why.
    @amoteafloat: Pirates? Absolutely!

  16. No more singing or dance competitions PLEASE.

I haven't seen Archer, Nellie, but someone told me the other day how good it was.

No more vampires with or without a singing competition/game show.

And for the love of GOD, NO KARDASHIAN CHRISTMAS SPECIAL!

  18. @ Patty - THANK YOU! I have friends that work @ the CN, & when I tell them about the CN/MTV similarities they clam up. They *HAVE* to know that the live-action is a last gasp/desperate move.

I hate it & am very vocal about that.

Also, check out Bob's Burgers - done by Loren Bouchard who did Dr.Katz.

  19. We need to stop plucking mildly talented people from obscurity and making them famous for 15 minutes. Same goes for Youtube "stars". (Did anyone see the Johnny Test cartoon about that? I thought it was bang on.)

Too many people want their shot at fame. Ridiculous. No one wants to work hard for their money anymore.

And this morning I found out that homeless guy with the golden voice has a new "reality" show coming out called Second Chances. I would support it if it showed people who went from being homeless and managed to get themselves off the streets - that would be inspiring. But not this guy - he didn't work his way to improving his life.

  20. I hear you, Robert. They've been parading her all over like they would one of these crappy reality stars.

  21. I am from the Netherlands where the Voice was first broadcast, and we all here thought exactly the same: why yet another talent show?

But I have to tell you: this show was a HUGE hit, literally everybody was watching and talking about is, there were really talented singers and it was as big as the first series of Idols (as American Idol was called over here). So my advice would be: give it a go when it starts!
