Christina Aguilera Big Fan Of Robert Pattinson - Streams Twilight Into National Anthem

Ahh, Christina. You think maybe Christina Aguilera just got nervous or maybe had a drink too many prior to last night's Super Bowl? Whatever it might be, she did mess up the National Anthem. Always a tough one to sing, she has sung it perfectly before, but this time, she got all Twilight and streaming when it should have been "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming", turned into "What so proudly we watched, at the twilight's last streaming."

Proud to watch Twilight? At least she did not stop singing. Ashlee Simpson would have walked off or done some kind of little dance. Later, Christina admitted she made a mistake. The goof comes about :51 in.

  1. Hey, at least she didn't grab her crotch and hawk a lugie.

  2. Ticks me off.

How much money did she get paid for this only to screw it up by being unprepared, or whatever she was?

The SuperBowl people should garnish the check.

  3. I don't see the big deal, but then again I'm not American. Except for the goof, I thought she really showed off those pipes. Girl's still got it if she can get herself together!

  4. Imagine performing LIVE in front of that many people. I have a friend who has sung at basketball (NBA) and baseball (AAA) games and he was saying that you're always thinking ahead to the next line. It's HIS biggest fear that he'll goof like that. At least if he does it, it's not on National (international) TV.

And add to that, they were cutting between military and players and there were numerous cheers/jeers that could easily throw someone off.

Not saying that she wasn't boozed up but for eff's sake, it happens.

  5. Why this song is our anthem, I will never understand. It is atrocious to sing. I much prefer America the Beautiful.

  6. I hated Lea Michele's rendition of 'America The Beautiful' (my favorite patriotic song). It was a cheap karaoke-style version. I was not impressed. At all.

As for that other bitch. She reallllly pissed me off. I don't care what her excuse is. She should not be paid for it and she should never be asked to sing the National Anthem ever again.

She not only screwed up the lyrics (I understand, there is a lot of pressure, blah blah blah); however, she also wayyyy over did it. She "over-souled" it and made it all about her voice instead of singing it in a way that was meaningful.

Jennifer Hudson sang it beautifully. I cried, it was so moving.

Snookitina butchered the shit out of it.

Sorry guys, I just realllly get offended when someone sings it badly.

I love both of these songs and when sung properly, they can move me to tears. Both of these idiots effed them up, so I was irked the rest of the damn game.

    Grr.

  8. Missjenny619, totally agree about Lea. She started out all wrong and continued to toboggan down the hill.

They should just stick to having a military choir sing the anthem. A mixed choir would be lovely.

  9. She made a mistake probably due to nervousness. Otherwise, it was well sung!

  10. I hear ya, MissJenny619; there seems to be a unspoken competition among singers to see how many syllables you can turn each word of the national anthem into, which totally obscures the point.
And Merlin D. Bear: that had to be the most horrifying display of non-talent ever inflicted on the public, hands down.

  11. Oh, and I thought Lea Michele was AWFUL. She is WAY over the top, seemingly about to burst into tears after every line. Between that and her ridiculous reactions and tears to everything during the Golden Globes, I need a lea Michele break.

  14. she's a f-ing professional, this is why she is paid the $$ she makes...there is no excuse for the mistake. nervous...what like she has never been on tour/TV/radio/live...what a pathetic excuse for a singer/entertainer.
we should not make excuses for her-she was probably paid a boat load of $$

  15. despite my 'understanding' of the words, I completely agree that she over sang it.

I have NBA season tickets and I LOVE it when I hear a version that it's "miriah'd" out. Last game (against the Heat I think) there was this awesome quartet. Sang it SO well and it moved along, instead of feeling dragged out.

  16. sorry, should have read ISN'T "mirah'd" out. :-)

  17. If she was trying to be funny and ditzy, she FAIL. I'm not an american but I would be offended. I get it, it's difficult and you might be nervous but is your job.

I agree with the Lea comments, sometimes she tries so hard and her voice was not the right one to do that song, it was awful.

  18. Oh, a little reaming never hurt anyone.

  19. I agree with those who still think she did a better job than Lea Michele. She may have messed up, but at least she can sing.

The more Lea Michele makes public appearances, the more my Glee-love fades.

  20. I am glad that most of you feel the same way =)

It is sooo important to me that these songs are sung correctly and beautifully.

My favorite version of "America The Beautiful" is by Ray Charles. Heck, even they just played his track and had a chorus people on the field singing the background vocals while they showed the troops and the football players and the crowd, I would be thrilled.

  21. Leah annoys me.

Christina messed up, but got to give her credit for continuing. Honestly, I didn't notice at the time. Of course I was chasing two babies around the room....

I honestly believe she is the blind about the star who plans on "pulling a Britney" because she thinks she can do it better. she will start having public meltdowns shortly.

  22. I would be thrilled if we could put aside the Star Spangled Banner in favor of America the Beautiful. At least most of us could sing that one!
Did you know the music of the National Anthem was from a British drinking song? You can imagine the fun the drunks must have had singing it!

  23. I just heard on coasttocoastam the other night that we didn't even have a national anthem until 1931, and it wasn't until it was mentioned in Ripley's Believe it or Not in 1929 that something was done about it.

  24. Warbling one note for 42 seconds is disgusting! Either you can sing, or you can't, and warbling doesn't help.

    ReplyDelete
  25. At least she sang it live unlike past artists like Whitney Houston ho lip synched it and everybody went gaga over how great she sounded "live".

I'm not fan but I respect the fact it was live.

Too bad she looked like such shit.

  26. In her defense, I have to say it must be pretty nerve-racking singing a cappella in that kind of setting. I agree on the wailing and warbling though...like, girl, you can SING. Pick a note, and fucking sing it!

  27. So that bullshit with Lea "barking" was enough to make me pull out my hair. I had never heard her sing and I can't believe she has as many fans as she does if that is what she sings like.

As for Christina. I do like it sung more purely with fewer arpeggios and whatnot, but it wasn't horrible. I wasn't "offended" that she messed up the words, I mean it's like, she didn't spit on the flag, it was an honest mistake. Usually I am fairly emotional at both of the songs, Christina made me tear a little, but I wasn't moved like I usually am. Lea made me want to stab my ears with a dull instrument.

  28. @kathrynnova - I just LOL'd at that story!

The part of the National Anthem that is commonly sung is only EIGHT LINES! How do you mess up eight lines? How do you memorize words to something fast like Candyman but can't get that?

I was about to make fun of her last night whilst on Twitter but then all these other people were on saying how hard it is to sing live, so then I kept my mouth shut. :)

Kelly Ripa said this morning that when you have the thing in your ear that sometimes that throws people off b/c you can't judge how you sound immediately.

  29. I hope Glee figures out soon that they're better off without Lea.
