Britney Gets $500K For Product Placements
You know, when 30 Rock throws in some product placements they do it in a funny kind of way. We are let in on the joke. It does not really ruin the quality of the show. Britney's latest video for Hold It Against Me though is just one big ad. It is painful to watch really because it seems like the whole point of the video is to get as many products in the video as humanly possible. The reason today became very clear as it was reported that Britney made $500K by having all those products in her video. I think next time what she should do is just stand there while the music plays and someone can just hand her one product after another that she can hold up for the camera.
What, like this is anything new? Pop music has incorporated product placements for YEARS now. And it's Britney Spears, it's not as if the artists in question had any kind of integrity beyond shilling products.

ReplyDeleteThat is a fine idea for a video, Ent.
ReplyDeleteJust like Bob Dylan, only with soda cans and breakfast cereal instead of cue cards.
It's brilliant!

ReplyDeleteyo, britney, i'mma let you finish, but lady gaga had the best product placement of all time.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't surprise me. It's idiotic and completely uncreative, but it doesn't shock me. I'm with Katy Perry on this one: at LEAST be original and show some cleverness when you do it.
ReplyDeleteThat said, it's Britney fucking Spears. The people who are dumb enough to actually be susceptible to such blind/blatant product placement are the same people dumb enough to purchase her music.
And Jesus LORD, that song is wretched.
So over her!
ReplyDeleteConsidering that she ripped off the song, it's no surprise ...
ReplyDeleteWas never into her.
ReplyDeleteAnd I really thought that screenshot was Ke$ha. Looking at it with the headline confused me for a good 30 seconds.

ReplyDeleteSelock, I'm with you on that. I thought it was Ke$ha as well. Probably means something, like how all these artists are interchangeable and none of them have any discernible talent.
ReplyDeleteAnd with that said, this is why she has a mansion in the Hollywood Hills (and then some) and none of us probably do.
Charlie Sheen, Lindsay, Britney, etc. ... please make them all go away.
Pookie, you're on fire today!
ReplyDeleteAmen, G!
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt Britney is lodged deep in the hearts & minds of an amazing number of people but I will never for the life of me understand how she got there!
speaking of interchangeable...I have seen at least two tv commercials and three print ads that I can NOT tell if the model is Kim Kardashian or not. Is she the new "it" girl to look like now or what's going on?
ReplyDeleteThey can't even make Britney look pretty in a video anymore. She has totally lost her looks.
ReplyDeleteOhmigod, chihuahuense - that Kardashianesque commercial girl is the freakiest thing! I think she's just a lookalike, though. Weirdness.
ReplyDeleteI flick all over God's Green Earth with a Diet Coke in hand. Nobody slipms me a dime.
ReplyDeletePlentyoffish.com reported a 20% spike in internet hits the day after the video aired (per TMZ.)
ReplyDeleteI guess it works.
Imagine the mentality of those who want to look like Kim Kardashian?
all artists have find new revenue streams since music sales are dead to illegal downloading by sites like piratebay.org
ReplyDeleteThey could of been a little bit clever about it. To date the worst I ever saw was new 90210 and the Dr. Pepper push. That was obscene.
@Seleck-good to know that was a dollar that didn't go to KK, but bad to know they are multiplying
ReplyDelete@Robert-I know, I can't imagine looking up to her. I'm glad my parents made me read books when I was young, where I could find true heroines to look up to.
Call me crazy, but I don't mind product placement in music videos - provided it's not done in a "shoving it down the viewer's throat" way.
ReplyDeleteBetter luck next time, Brit brit.
Got through 1:25 seconds of the video. Bleech. Looks like she's wearing a diaper.

No she didn't.
Enty there is a hilarious scene in the movie of Wayne's World (Party time, it's excellent!) where they do a similar scene, holding up products and giving a canned ad for each as a wink to the audience, loved it.
ReplyDeleteIn that same vein, the video was so obvious, I honestly thought it was meant as a spoof, and in that light I thought it was funny and well done, LOL!
Oh well, Make Up Forever makes my eyes water and swell shut, so they didn't help sell me any!
