Barbra Clarifies Her Glee Remarks
Barbra Streisand has spoken. Well, I thought she had. Turns out Ms. Barbra changed her mind and what everyone thought she spoke she really didn't mean so she is speaking again. When Barbra was asked if she would ever appear on Glee, the singer said, "Not if I can help it." I can't imagine her appearing on Glee and thought it was an honest answer. Apparently though she got some negative feedback from her comments so took to her blog to explain what she really meant.
She now says that her answer should have been, "You never know. What I meant was that I’ve been overwhelmed preparing for my performance on MusiCares, the Grammys, recording a new album, and starting a new movie. So I couldn’t take on any more work, and besides that, I wasn’t asked. I’m so honored that a lead character on “Glee” is so admiring of my work. In my speech at MusiCares, I thanked them “for exposing young people to music they might otherwise not hear today: Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, and Darren Criss…you’re all so gifted.”
Meh. I liked her first answer better.
babs,
ReplyDeleteplease have some cajones.
I liked her first answer better, too, but, on the other hand, I loved that she named Darren Criss as one of the gifted ones. He gets less press than a lot of the Glee stars, but he has plenty of talent to spare.
ReplyDeleteSell out.
ReplyDeleteEh, as a spin it was actually plausible.
ReplyDeleteWhen did Glee become the sacred cow? I'm so sick of people backtracking/getting heat for some remark about Glee. It ain't all that.
ReplyDeleteBarbra approached Lea after the Grammy's last night. I'm sure Lea was catatonic for the rest of the night.
ReplyDeleteShame that MusiCares event on Friday was not taped, there are mulitple reports that the performances were spectacular, especially Stevie Wonder singing People.
Message to all Glee cast members and Ryan Murphy: Do a search for FAME REUNION on YouTube, or any of the old Fame TV show videos. This is your future. If you need some more stunt casting, I'm sure Erica Gimpel and Valerie Landsberg would be happy for the work.
Great. She just fed Lea's already inflated ego.
ReplyDeletewow. what a hose bag.

If you choose to say it, own it.
ReplyDeleteGlee is a juggernaut now and Ryan Murphy is meglamaniac and no one can dare try to tarnish his fifedome. Or he will destroy them.
ReplyDeleteIt was a cute little show and now they are all as bad as Shannen Doherty in 1993.
Will somebody please explain to me what the persons that compose this blog - no longer "ENTY" - have against GLEE?
ReplyDeleteSorry, but this ancient Gleek does not understand the vitriol.
Weak sauce on the half-retraction. She should have never readdresssed it.
ReplyDeleteOh, and fuck that douchebag Ryan Murphy. He makes Asston Kutcher and JT look modest.
I also like the first answer better.
ReplyDeleteBitter Queen, I so hope you are right. I would buy that DVD, and maybe even a few extras to give as gifts.
ReplyDelete@Aly - I like Glee, I think it's the attitudes of Ryan Murphy and Lea Michele that has turned people off.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first read her comment before her update, I honestly thought she did not mean it to be vicious. I really thought her intention was "why would I need to do that at this point in my career and when I have plenty of other things to do?" and not "God, what a horrible idea."
ReplyDeleteOk so I don't really like Barbra and I enjoy Glee immensely, but I would pay money to see Babs tell off the douchebag that is Ryan Murphy and let him know where exactly he can shove his precious show. No way in hell would he pull the shit with her he's pulled on some other performers who don't want to ride the Glee juggernaut.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes anyone feel better, I have no clue who Ryan Murphy is but then, I don't watch the show. The songs aren't a capella, and they sound quite produced.
ReplyDeleteWhat delilah said.
I am officially over Glee producers being so damn humorless and self-important that one after another actual singer has to apologize for saying out loud hell no they don't want to be on it.
ReplyDeleteI liked her first answer b/c it was honest.
ReplyDeleteIs no one allowed to have an opinion on this show anymore? Who cares if Barbra doesn't want to be on it? They will still have a long line of stars/musicians that will want to go on the show.
First and foremost, it's Babs.
ReplyDeleteThe woman can literally do no wrong. Just ask her.
Frankly I don't think for a hot second the second comment, on "her" blog was her at all - for me, it reeks of desperate publicist trying to do minimal damage control - I could be wrong (and frequently am).
The first comment was pure Streisand though... but I'll still bet that Paris Hilton announces she's a virgin before Herself sets foot on that soundstage to film an episode of Glee.
