Between watching The Real Housewives and trying to keep up with NBC's three hours of sitcoms, I did not see Tracy Morgan on TNT last night. I did see David Brent on The Office though and thought it was a great two minutes. Oh, and I saw Tracy on 30 Rock, but not on Inside The NBA. Anyway, Tracy was on the show and said that he sexual fantasies about Sarah Palin. I am not sure why TNT had the need to apologize for the comments. If he had said the same thing about Oprah or some other non-political figure would there have been the backlash? TNT acted like Sarah was going to come down to the studio and shoot them like she did that moose during her reality show.
"It's unfortunate Mr. Morgan showed a lack of judgment on our air with his inappropriate comments. We apologize for any embarrassment or offense it may have caused." I think what happened is the show's sponsor got upset so TNT pretended like there was something wrong with what Tracy said. If he said he fantasized about Jessica Alba would anything have been said? Since when is Sarah Palin off limits? Yes, he used the words masturbation material, but you also invited Tracy on the show so I don't know what you were expecting. A discourse on politics?
You are dead right, Enty. Since when is Sarah Palin off-limits to comedians?
ReplyDeleteI guess TNT has never heard of the first amendment.
ReplyDeleteIt was inappropriate, regardless of who he referred to. I don't need those mental images.
ReplyDeleteI'm no prude, but I think they were probably apologizing for what he said and when he said it (early evening during a basketball game), not because it was about Sarah Palin. That's what I got from it, anyway.
ReplyDeleteUgh. I wish her no ill will or good will but I would so love to get through a week of not hearning that name.
ReplyDeleteThe others guys brought Sarah Palin's name up. Not Tracy. He was just answering their question.
ReplyDeleteAnyway it was Sarah's crack PR team that probably issued a warning/threat to TNT. Demanding an apology so Sarah's name can be in the headlines (yet again) and to show how crass those "left wing liberal Hollywood nuts" can be.
F her
Hilarious. I hate it when ANYONE apologizes for something someone says on the air, unless it is racist or to incite violence. Or against Michael Jordan. Everything else is fair game
ReplyDeleteI don't recall hearing about any BFD over the "Alaska--Coldest State, Hottest Governor" slogan long before she ever heard of John McCain.
ReplyDeletePlease.
Were she an ugly beast she'd have NEVER made it to the National spotlight.
black men will never learn
ReplyDeleteAll this network Sarah ass kissing is making me nervous she really will run in 2012 and have a good shot at it.
ReplyDeleteHow is she getting more powerful?
I'm disturbed by the fact that Tracy Morgan has sexual fantasies about Sarah Palin to begin with, let alone talking about it.
ReplyDeleteOn a happier note, Brisol the Pistil's appearance at next month's "Sexual Responsibility Week" at Washington University in St. Louis has been cancelled "...because of the growing controversy among undergraduates over the decision to pay for [Bristol's] talk with student-generated funds."(Per TMZ.)
It's like inviting Ricky Gervais to host the Golden Globes and expecting him to blow sunshine and fairy kisses filled with rainbows to the crowd.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I'm sure he was trying to be FUNNY. He didn't bring it up. What was he supposed to say that he jacks off to Tina Fey? THEY WORK TOGETHER! That would have been awkward.
ReplyDeleteI am not offended by Tracy Morgan & TNT shouldn't be either.
Can you not say masterbation on TV?
@shakey - I agree. Consider the source. Is it a fucking surprise that surprise that Tracy Morgan is a loose cannon?
ReplyDeleteMost people would ignore Morgan's comments, but Palin is a thug, and so are many of her worshippers. TNT was smart to apologize as these can be really ugly people they may have offended.
ReplyDeleteShe's not running for President, not a snowball's chance in Hades.
ReplyDeleteShe might run in the primaries, but that would smoke out every other semi-qualified GOPer like Guiliani (he even said so himself) who might not have a shot on the ticket themselves, either, but it will water down the votes.
If she ran, she'd lose to Huckabee or Romney or ANYone else who the real GOP strong-hold would put up against her.
The GOP knows she is only all about the Benjamins. The only people who don't realize this already are the Sarah-loonies paying to hear her speak or buying her books or watching her show (which I myself watched a couple times and I must say, Alaska really IS beautiful, and apparently a nice place if you like killing various living creatures...).
What selenakyle said. I wish she would stop getting air time.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think she is narcissistic enough to run and thinks she would have a chance.
I'm not usually one who thinks this right away.... Well flame away if you think I got the wrong end of the stick....
ReplyDeleteOkay, he phrased it crudely, but he is a comedian, so they knew that when they invited him, so bearing that in mind, if he had said same about the First Lady, or about NY 11th District Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (just two fast examples of incredibly beautiful political figures) would there have been this reaction? I think you could argue that they might have said he should have phrased it better, but I just have a feeling that if the background or party of the object of his fantasy had been different, then so would the response. Just the thought I had.
I can't believe everyone jumping on Sarah here but not actually being offended by Tracy Morgan saying MASTURBATION several times on the TV when kids can be watching and act like that is no big deal. This was a basketball game not a late night comedy show.
ReplyDeleteThe media are all very liberally biased except Fox News. This had nothing to do with Sarah, TNT could care less about her, but they do care about their license to broadcast. The apologized because Tracy said something way too sexually suggestive during hours that minors are still tuned in and they'd rather not be investigated by the FCC for indecency violation!
How sad you all can overlook this or just accept this behavior as appropriate, what will come of our kids who are growing up on this culture. I for one am scared.
I also think it would have been very inappropriate to say that about Michelle Obama during a basketball game. It's just rude and crude and you guys all think it's fine.
OK, lets say she runs and wins. Is that the beginning of the end for America?
ReplyDeleteGood OTOH view, grizster.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the situation was a regular bb game on regular, prime-time TV.
I totally agree the intended audience would dictate the necessity of any apology; makes sense to me.
Tracy is getting a paycheck by Ms. Palin, so that Ms. Palin can stay relevant.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Sarah Palin. And I am not a prude. But if you are watching a BASKETBALL game in the early evening, you shouldn't expect to hear sexual innuendos about anyone. Sorry. If it was on the Office, or some other early evening show that is aimed at adults, then I would say, you pretty much know what to expect, but you don't expect that with a b-ball game. And just because some people wouldn't mind their kids hearing it, doesn't make it right. I think it comes down to what the viewers were expecting from the programming.
ReplyDelete1. The problem was young children watch the NBA and the comment was made in family viewing time.
ReplyDelete2. Sarah is very attractive and the comment would be correct at a non children viewing time.
3. Considering that the voters of the US were stupid enough to elect that closet radical Muslin bozo Obama, anyone could get elected president of the US.
