Ryan Seacrest To Replace Regis?
One of the worst ideas I have heard in awhile is the idea of Ryan Seacrest replacing Regis Philbin on Regis & Kelly. I honestly thought that Regis would stay on the air until the day he died. He has been on television forever. He is 78, but there are clips of him which go back to the earliest days of television. He has always been on television. Since its advent. The one thing that has been consistent from television since its invention is that Regis has been on one.
When he announced yesterday he was leaving, I was really kind of hurt. Sure, he does a mindless kind of morning show, but I would rather watch 100 hours of Regis than one hour of The View. Plus, he did what he wanted, said what he wanted, didn't pretend he was more than he was, and he was willing to do a cameo for anyone doing anything.
Today, rumors are running rampant that Ryan Seacrest might replace Regis. I can't see it. Ryan would just take over that show and be too dominating. It needs to be give and take and Ryan does not give a whole lot. Plus, he tried television and people realized he should stick to radio. It is one thing to interview some contestants on Idol, and another to sit on some chairs and talk about nonsense for an hour. Plus, the show is in New York and Ryan is in LA so I doubt it.
If someone does decide to do it, I would give it about six months. It would last longer than Chevy Chase's talk show, but not by much.
How about Barry Bostwick?
Oh, I hope not. Contrary to what Ryan Seacrest apparently believes, and many other people as well, it is not necessary that he be on every freaking show on TV. I find him annoying and he's becoming ubiquitous.
ReplyDeleteSeacrest= horrible choice.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to see Neil Patrick Harris take the spot.....
Mike Catherwood, aka Psycho Mike, is going to sit in. He is hot as hell and funny.
ReplyDeleteSeacrest is as interesting as limp lettuce.
Anderson Cooper is really good when he fills-in for Regis. Maybe he would do it.
ReplyDeleteLove the NPH suggestion! But his show is filmed in LA.
ReplyDeleteLast night, Craig Ferguson was angling for the spot in his monologue. I'm pretty sure he was joking, but it got me to thinking he would be a pretty interesting replacement for Regis. He has the same irreverence that Regis does, and that same I'm-freaking-out style of humor. And I could see him driving Kelly Ripa nuts, which would also be a plus.
ReplyDelete@Cheryl... I don't see "HIMYM" lasting a whole lot longer. Sadly, they have dragged it out WAY too long.
ReplyDeleteI would think that Jeff Probst would certainly be in the running
ReplyDeletebarry bostwick will always be brad in my book. "oh bra-ad, i'm mad"
ReplyDeleteI love when either Anderson C & NPH fills in but I don't think either one would do it full time.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch the show very often so I won't care too much who they choose. I could see them picking Howie Mandel who drives me nuts.
Anderson Cooper, NPC, Mark Consuelos, Nick Lachey- all have done a great job whenever they sat in to guest host.
ReplyDeleteAnderson has been amazing in the show, so funny and totally not annoying..unlike Ryan, who is a hard-working man and I can't believe he has the time to do all that he does but he just isn't funny or interesting or witty.
ReplyDeleteI just love Craig Ferguson, specially after the Doctor Who cold opening, but sometimes I feel his sense of humor is underrated.
I watched American Idol last year for the first and only time and I found Ryan Seacrest to be strange and kind of creepy. His on-screen relationship with Simon Cowell was beyond weird. I guess I'm saying he'd be a poor choice to replace Regis.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should dust off Craig Kilborn and see if he wants to come back to TV. Other than that, I would like to see Mark come on and do the show with his wife, long term.
ReplyDeleteOh No not Ryan....how boring
ReplyDeleteRegis is 79. Mr ripa would be my choice as excellent eye candy!
ReplyDeletewendy williams said it best a few years ago on her radio show ..ryan seacrest came to hollywood with his kneepads how the hell is he just takin over everything and became a media mogul all of sudden...who is he bending over for and suckin off
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a step down for Ryan to take it and he would want to own the show. I don't think E! or Fox is willing to lose him for a morning show.
ReplyDelete@LULU the rumor is he was bending over and sucking off for Merv Griffin to get his career going in the early days.
ReplyDeleteAnd I kinda believe it.
I watched Letterman last night for his reaction to Regis leaving (he's always ragging on Regis...it was quite good). Did anyone else see his bit about Ricky Gervais and the Golden Globes? It was an awesome smackdown of the Hollywood PR BS machine.
ReplyDeleteRegis hosted a morning show in Los Angeles before he went national. That's how long he's been around. He was hilarious then (he adequately filled the shoes of the great Ralph Story in LA). I find him moderately annoying now. Probably a good time to retire.
ReplyDeleteI was home sick on day last week and Jerry O'Connell filled in, he was really funny! I was pleasantly surprised
ReplyDeleteOh FS, no, no. Craig Kilborn's head is too big to fit in that studio. FWIW, I liked him when he first started, but then the ego got bigger, then bleah.
ReplyDeleteI don't think putting Mark and Kelly at work every day together would be great for a marriage.
I think maybe Regis has alheimers or dementia and is leaving to cover it up. The dude is elderly so it could be.
ReplyDelete@shakey
ReplyDeleteMark and Kelly used to work together when they were both on All My Children.
I know who Michael K will vote for.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I wonder what Dunkleman is up to these days?
ReplyDeleteI don't do tv, but while I was with my mom I happened to catch Kelly and her guest that day, Jerry O'Connell. My god, I wanted to throw something at the tv after a couple minutes. What a self-absorbed twat! She is exactly like those parodies on SNL.
ReplyDeletePlease no more Seacrest on anything...enough!
ReplyDeleteSee, when I heard this, I was thinking "I wonder if he will quit AI for Regis's spot??" Maybe he is thinking AI will only last one more season?? Surely he is not going to try and add ANOTHER show to his resume.
ReplyDeleteBut anyhoo, to bounce off of Kelly he would be a TERRIBLE choice. I like some of the other suggestions other posters have said. I love Craig Ferguson but I don't know if he is right for the kinda cheesy daytime audience.
Why would they have to have a co-anchor? Maybe Ripa will vie for having her own show! It is an end of an era but Reg is probably tired!
I agree completely with what Enty said. This show is 100 times better than most any day time show. You have to have somebody laid back. Seacrest, O'Connell,Probst, Consuelos all have HUGE egos. They can't seem to embrace the duo concept. Kelly Ripa is hysterical with Anderson, but nope, not him.
ReplyDeleteI'm going Polar Opposite from y'all. I'm going with...George Lopez!
Since people seem to love to tune in weekly to see drunk, drug addict, ho slingers a la Sheen, why not resurrect Gary Collins into the limelight? It would be interesting to watch him come off his benders in front of a live television audience & god knows he'd still appeal to the Regis loving demographic. Good times!
ReplyDeleteI know, Lady J but they're relationship is much older now. If one says something the other doesn't like they're most likely to tell each other to screw off (but not on-air).
ReplyDeleteSeacrest is gay, not that it matters, but it's very apparent that he doesn't like women. He finds it hard to be polite to them or even pretend to have a modicum of interest.
ReplyDeleteBesides, Kelly would tower over him.
