Mexican Pop Singer Arrested For Rape

You probably have not been following the case of Mexican pop singer Kalimba, but it is a pretty interesting case. The hugely popular singer was arrested in Mexico yesterday after being deported from the United States. The singer, who once voiced Simba for The Spanish version of Lion King, is accused of raping a 17 year old girl back on December 19th. The next thing you know, Kalimba was in the United States hiding from everyone. Well, Kalimba's people say he was in the US on a business trip. Uh huh. Anyway, police in Texas caught up with him and he was deported.

I believe men like him should be castrated.

I did, but then erased it. I thought it might be off topic, but I completely agree with you.

I´ve been following the case pretty closely and to be honest I don't think hes guilty I feel the D.A has been severly critisized for his latest cases and he's trying to gain back some credibility with this one, everyone hates child molesters and rapist so convicting him would look good for him but there's good evidence on his favor.

  10. Flame away but was it rape or statutory rape? I hate abusers as much as the next rational person but if it was consensual sex with a 17 year old, that's a different ball of wax, IMO.

  12. Mango, I had the same question. Below is the best article I found about what happened. She's definitely accusing him of forced rape, but even if they can't prove that, he could be charged since she's underage.

The technical age of consent in Quintana Roo where it happened is 14, but there are laws against "corrupting minors" for older teenagers that can be applied.

    From Wikipedia:
"There is another crime in Article 262for consented sex with adolescents aged 12 to 18, when consent is obtained through deceit. The penalty is 3 months to 4 years in prison. This crime, however, is prosecuted only through a complaint of the minor or his/her parents or legal guardians..."

After reading up on Mexico's laws, I think they're a heck of a lot better than ours - sex with very young kids is always illegal, but sex with older teenagers, it depends on the circumstances.

The article: ( I don't think the word "escort" means "prostitute" here, but that they were hired to be part of his entourage for the event. Another article said they were hired as "hostesses" for the party. )

The case itself revolves around 17-year-old escort XXXX — sent to accompany Kalimba and his entourage at the nightclub where they played the concert on Dec. 18.

XXXX said in a TV interview that she and another escort aged 16 indeed were invited back to the hotel expecting a party.

Back in the hotel, XXXX says she saw the fellow escort go into a room with three naked men and the door being closed.

Kalimba then hit her, told her to shut up and raped her, she claims.

In his own interview, Kalimba on the verge of tears said Gomez is lying.

“I didn’t rape anyone. I didn’t abuse anyone. It was a small hotel. Someone would have heard if I attacked her. How come I have no marks on me?” he said. “I have many women in my family. I would never abuse women.”

However, Kalimba did not confirm or deny whether he had sex with the underage girl.

He also said that both girls went to see him off at the airport, remarking that would have been strange if Gomez had been raped.

    [Edited to remove her name]

  13. One of the female hosts on the Spanish-language show "Escandolo" sweetly pointed out this weekend that the victim had had an abortion at age 14, so they'll "have to see what happens."
