Long Time No See Jenny Lewis
Back in the day it seemed like Jenny Lewis was in everything. She was like the young Glenne Headly who is the female version of Kevin Bacon. Then Jenny kind of dropped out of acting to focus on her band Rilo Kiley and her music career. I remember her most from Foxfire. I know she was in Troop Beverly Hills too, but I just remember a bunch of kids running around a clearly agitated Shelley Long who you could see was thinking, "I gave up Cheers for this crap."
Well, last night, Jenny made a red carpet appearance as Jake Gyllenhaal's date. I know, I know, musicians seem to be his thing right now. Somehow I am guessing their night did not end up with the two of them swapping spit back at Jake's place.
How did she get that gig?
ReplyDeleteI have a girl crush on Jenny Lewis. I got to see her when her & Johnny opened up for Band of Horses in October. Her voice is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteDid not know she was an actress before! Interesting.
she is my muse. i LOVE her. you know, i always thought the song 'Straight Edge of the Blade' on the new Jenny and Johnny cd could possibly be about Jakey...
ReplyDeletePlease Chrissy Buns, I dream of being that hand in your avatar. What do I have to do get that job? Doncha love his new song?
ReplyDeleteIt was hilarious when Ryan Gaycrest interviewed Toothy Tile. They were talkin'bout Vitamin V and loincloths
ReplyDeleteDefinetly a friend date- she has been with Johnathan Rice forever-- and they are the group Jenny and Johnny
ReplyDeletesorry Aly, it's my hand ;)
ReplyDeleteI wondering if they'd broken up, or if this was just a friend date, Hilary. Good to know Jenny and Johnny are going strong.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know who she is. But I know she's not very professional wearing that outfit to the Golden Globes. Then to be with JG.
ReplyDeleteJenny Lewis did a fabulous album, "Rabbit Fur Coat" with the Watson Twins. Worth searching out.
ReplyDeleteJust to clear things up, back in the day before Rilo Kiley Jenny and Jake used to date. This isn't a shocker or anything, as they've remained friends since then. He and Reese even caught a few of her shows while they were still "together". My guess is she's one of the gals in his life he can truly feel comfortable around. Oh, and one more thing. Jenny Lewis is the most amazing singer to ever grace the face of the earth. Just sayin. Listen to Acid Tongue if you don't believe me. I recommend Jack Killed Mom. She seriously puts every other working singer to shame. Her voice sounds like an instrument.
ReplyDeletei don't know who she is but i like the rodarte dress she's wearing.
ReplyDeletei'm guessing we may be seeing some coffee dates soon?
I second the love for "Rabbit Fur Coat" (some amazing country-soul) and "Acid Tongue" (a very good loose vibe and the album was recorded live in the studio). Recent Rilo Kiley albums have been kind of overproduced but her solo albums are much stronger.
ReplyDeletethis is so weird. I don't know who she is other than she emailed me once wanting me do do some genealogy research for her. I changed my email address and couldn't contact her any more. I just remember her from the band Rilo Kiley because I love the song Portion for Foxes!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check her out. Never heard of her before.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me of the conversation I had with my husband while watching October Sky. I commented how we never see the kid in the glasses in movies anymore. Went on imdb. His name is Chris Owens. He had some really choice roles in teen movies, then poof.
I disagree that Under The Blacklight was overproduced. I thought it was terrific. Very rhythmic and spicy.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, I never made the connection that she was THAT child actress. So funny.
ReplyDeletelove Under The Blacklight! oh man, Silver Lining is such a great song! you really get to see how great her voice is when you see her love...she sounds so amazing *sigh* how i love her. Rilo Kiley, solo stuff, and Jenny and Johnny!
ReplyDeletethat was supposed to say 'see her live'...and type, really, i can!
