Lauryn Hill Doesn't Care She Was Four Hours Late
Last week, Lauryn Hill played a comeback concert in New York City. The show has Prince in the audience. Despite Prince being there and a sold out show, Lauryn decided she was far too important to start her show on time. Now, we are not talking 30 minutes late or even an hour. Nope. Instead of the scheduled 8:30pm start time, Lauryn did not take the stage until after midnight. When she finally did appear, the crowd booed. Apparently this did not please Lauryn. "Don't do that. That's disrespectful. I spent my entire 20s sacrificing my life to give you love. So when I hear people complain, I don't know what to tell you... I personally know I'm worth the wait."
Umm sacrificing your life? No one made you sing. No one made you earn millions of dollars doing nothing but singing. No wonder none of her Fugees band mates likes her.
I know what a righteous beyotch she is, but damn she's got an amazing voice.
ReplyDeleteI never really cared for her. Something always rubbed me the wrong way. I see now it must have been the self-entitlement that she oozed.
ReplyDeleteFuck Lauryn Hill, seriously. So over her self-aggrandizing bullshit. What happened to THANKING the fans?
ReplyDeleteVery rude and incosiderate.
ReplyDeleteDitto Jackie and Rocket Queen. Bitch, please!
ReplyDeletethe word sould be spelled "inconsiderate"
ReplyDeletewhy wouldn't you just walk out after the first hour or two and demand your money back. No one is worth waiting for 4 hours for.
ReplyDeleteI wish Prince would have a word with Miss Hill. The secret to longevity is BUSTING YOUR ASS for years like he has. Your fans make you important, Lauren.
ReplyDeleteI would have asked for my money back. Don't care if your voice is the voice of an angel. You don't make your fans wait 4 "FK" hours.
ReplyDeleteComeback concert? Apparently she needs to go back to where she came from and try to remember the hard long road to success.
ReplyDeleteSad, very sad.
Ditto RocketQueen. People actually waited 4 hours/ Um, no!
ReplyDeleteshe is mentally ill.
ReplyDeletePrince left. Big mistake Lauryn, big mistake.
ReplyDeleteI love her music but she is truly mentally ill.
Yeah.....
ReplyDeleteLast "comeback" she'll get, I'll bet.
If I wanna see mental illness I'll stay home and watch some of these relatives act the fool around here, for FREE...
Wow. What an asshole.
ReplyDeleteWow, doesn't she realize she's just a person and doesn't walk on water? I really don't know who she is but here a lot of this entitlement stuff these days. Should hear a lot more HUMILITY in my book. And APPRECIATION. Hope the fans didn't have to spend an arm and a leg for her rudeness.
ReplyDeleteShe will never learn. It's a shame because she's amazingly talented but unfortunately is wrapped up in the celebrity she once was. No consideration whatsoever.
ReplyDelete"if i knew as many white people would buy The Mis-education as they did, I probably would not have made it."
ReplyDeleteya go fuk ya self Lauren.you loony bitch.
who the hell waits 4 hours? i would have left.
ReplyDeleteThe only artist I would even CONSIDER waiting that long for is Ms Fiona Apple.
I've heard stories about how crazy and rude she is. How far removed from reality do you have to be to think that being 4 hours late is acceptable behavior? Seek help, Lauren. Soon.
ReplyDeleteDon't be so hard to Lauryn. She has a long and well documented fight with mental illness. The fact that she is performing at all is a step in the right direction considering she has been in and out of the hospital and rehab for the last 10 years.
ReplyDeleteSorry Jax but Lauryn never said that: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/lauryn.asp
ReplyDeleteAs many have pointed out, Lauryn Hill has some long-documented mental illnesses. Doesn't excuse rudeness, but I think this woman is in her own world. This is not the first time she's been massively late, nor is it the first time she's been booed over it. It will happen again - the girl needs help.
ReplyDelete@chopchop, thanks for the link. I had heard and believed this rumor, so it's nice to see it busted.
ReplyDeleteIt won't happen again if concert promoters don't book that ass.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have waited 4 minutes for her.
ReplyDeleteI'm not excusing this, because it sucks.
ReplyDeleteBut people...it's LAURYN HILL. She's BATSHIT CRAY-CRAY. Did ANYONE expect a normal performance?!
I can't bring myself to feel sorry for people who bought tickets to see Lauryn Hill. It's 2011, for christ's sake. There are hundreds of more important singers.
ReplyDeleteI love her. Love. her. I would've waited. Singers/musicians are sometimes out there. Take 'em or leave 'em. She is worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteShe is very talented, but she is also completely full of herself and is just as arrogant and awful a person in reality as you think she is. Not even a diva, just a full-blown bitch. First-hand experience, I'll leave it at that.
ReplyDelete@chopchop - I just finished reading that! I'm glad that rumor wasn't true. I loved The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill & it really pissed me off when I heard she'd said that.
ReplyDeleteShe's playing in my town on Sunday. They've already moved up the show an hour, so I wonder if she'll do this again?
Did PRINCE wait four hours???
She has bipolar, doesn't she?
It a shame that they can't get her stable enough to function as a performer. I think it would do her a world of good. The people around her are idiots for even trying to make a buck off of her in this condition.
ReplyDeleteKnowing how nuts this woman is, I would not have brought a ticket to see her. Funny, but I would wait four hours for Prince, but he never did that to me when I saw him live.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have heard, she has massive anxiety issues, which is what caused her to drop out of sight for so many years. For all we know, she could have had a severe panic attack at the thought of performing. Yes, I know she agreed to perform but a lot of times, when you get there, you realize you are in over your head and freak the f out. Not that I would know that from personal experience or anything.
ReplyDeletea panic attack, with a pep talk to herself that we may have misunderstood and taken as arrogance.., is what it sounds like to me. We are so quick to judge. If it was a freak out and she managed to muster it up to still go through with it, I give her credit.
ReplyDeleteThen she should explain it was a panic attack.
ReplyDeleteAnd apologized.
And not be performing and accepting money until she is better.
Her response was arrogant, and she is that way across the board from what I hear. People who have known her for decades are asked to call her "Ms. Hill".
I was there... What I'm most pissed about is that I didn't know Prince was too!!!! That's so random. It was in Williamsburg.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, yes she was that late and yes people did boo and throw things on stage, and she did say that, verbatim. It was a little awkward at first, but people laughed eventually and loosened up. She did apologize too, several times. Said it takes a lot to put a show together. I feel like it was her first time back on stage for her own tour and she was working kinks out.
I did think she was worth the wait because she's the one person I've always wanted to make a comeback. I love her voice and the show was really good.
I've walked out of Kanye shows when he's made his audience wait, but I give LH a pass. I find her intriguing. Difficult, but real. She basically walked away from fame to just be a regular mom because she didn't want to put up with the bullshit of it all. Not many people do that.
I also know a relative of hers, so I think that makes me more tolerant. Lol.
The MisEducation is such an amazing album. And she played Fugees songs too.
I saw Lauryn in Boston right before Christmas. She sounded awesome. However, we did have to wait 2 DAMN hours before she came on stage. Boston subway shuts down at 12:45am. She started a 9pm concert at 11:04pm and ended it at 12:30am.
ReplyDeleteWas it worth it? Yes. Would I have waited 4 hours. No. I would have just "ate" the $69. At the theatre, there is no re-entry, so I couldn't have sold it. But, she showed and sounded terrific.
And yes, she has some MAJOR history with mental illness...but that doesn't excuse the rudeness.
