BuzzFoto Blind Item
We’re getting lots of good Blinds from our Sundance source this year. Our source has another interesting piece of info about the Olympian we told you about earlier. This time, she claims that whenever he and his ‘crew’ are in Vegas partying at a famous club the athlete only tips 2% of his bill. The owner of the club is very frustrated with him and has told the servers to avoid his table when he comes in. He expects freebies and gives very little for what he gets.
Michael Phelps?
ReplyDeleteSame thought...got to be Phelps, right?
ReplyDeleteShaun White was the popular guess on the previous blind.
ReplyDeleteI think it's Phelps. I can see Shaun White being a tool, but Phelps would be the clueless one who returns to a place after getting the cold shoulder from its staff.
ReplyDelete"crew" may be a clue.
ReplyDelete"And Mr Olympian would like his drink with extra spit, please."
ReplyDeleteWhy do people bend over backwards for celebrities?
ReplyDeleteCelebrities are cheap!
I was thinking Phelps at first, but I found this interesting phrasing on Nintendo's website regarding Shaun White's new game that's he's been promoting (saw him on Conan the other night): "Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage follows Shaun White and his CREW of friends as they go from chasing the best powder to pursuing the world’s top competitions." I think I have to change my vote to Shaun...
ReplyDeleteShaun White is in Aspen for the X Games; I think this is probably Michael Phelps. Shaun is not known for being a cheap tipper, among other things.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that the club owner cares more about his staff's tips than about having (cheap ass) celebs being seen in his restaurant.
ReplyDeleteShaun loves Vegas. He had his 21st birthday there at the Palms Hotel. He's also not only a snowboarder--he's an accomplished skateboarder as well, so his competitions aren't limited to places where there's snow. I'm going to guess Coyote Ugly as the "famous club" (although it's a saloon, not really a club).
ReplyDeleteI found this forum of people who seem to kinda-sorta know him or have had run-ins with SW who have decided he's a dick. Who knows how much of it is true, but:

"He does not blaze, but likes to drink Patron."
I thought Phelps wasn't at Sundance?
ReplyDelete^^he's not. Phelps is a lot of things but not these Sundance blinds.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ loserdude.
ReplyDeleteShawn definitely hangs with a "crew" - of snowboarders, skateboarders, bikers, etc...
ReplyDeleteHas to be him.
maybe he's just bad at math. you know - 2%, 20%, kind of the same... gets confusing I'm sure when the numbers are big to start with. jk
ReplyDeleteI can see most clubs not caring much if SW is there or not. As skeezy as Phelps is, he still has some real cachet for winning so many events.
ReplyDeleteAs celebrity athletes go, Phelps will be A list all his life whether we like him or not.
Phelps has real money and didn't he "date" a vegas waitress? I would think he would probably tip well in the hopes he would get some more "dates". Sounds like the only "date" SW will get is after the girl is passed out. Yikes.
Update: Don't think it's Shawn - he is currently in Aspen for the Winter X-Games, not in Sundance.
ReplyDeleteWow. In your quest to gobble up anything about a celebrity you can find, everyone just sucked up this story.
ReplyDeleteThe assumption here is that he's at a club and demanding an assortment of attention.
That said, as Vegas fans know, a celebrity of any stature is not elbowing up to the bar to purchase a couple shots of Cuervo.
Chances are, he's at a table with bottle service. Most likely paying upwards of 5K just so sit and frequent someones club.
I realize whoever this is may be obscenely rich, but at what point does becoming rich mean you're contractually obligated to give shit away?
I make 40K a year and I tip 20% on my 35 dollar mexican dinner if the service is good.
If whoever this blind is about tipped 20% (and let's assume the tab was 5k) thats a $1,000 tip for bottle service.
Its fun to sit here and go at celebs and I'm as guilty as any of you - but just because you're rich doesn't mean you have to give handouts.
It sounds to me like this club manager expects freebies too.
Just to clarify for the people who keep bringing it up--the source isn't saying Shaun is at Sundance. The source is at Sundance and just has extra gossip. That's how I'm choosing to read it anyway.
ReplyDeleteRegardless--if he wanted to go to Sundance from the X-Games (and he didn't compete til Thurs, so he'd have had plenty of time), it is not really that far away. UT and CO are right next to each other and Denver is the nearest big air travel junction to SLC.
@Joe: wtf are you talking about. The blind says TWO percent, not 20. Two percent is a crappy tip, I don't care who or where you are, and it's rude and rarely warranted even for below-average service. IMO, if the service is truly terrible enough that two percent seems justified, just go full-on dick and leave nothing at all.
Trinnean - I only added that Shawn was at the X-games, not Sundance, because several thought it was the same person as the previous Sundance blind that started out "At a big Sundance party, opening night- this Male Olympian..."
ReplyDeleteThe whole point is moot anyway, considering Shawn WAS at Sundance - http://www.zimbio.com/pictures/EI_fGOSB86H/Bertaud+Belieu+Silver+cup+Studios+Present/DoD1pqmnY7L/Shaun+White
@Jessica: Oohhh, I see now, I forgot to go back and read the actual text of the original blind. But yeah, you're right! I think this was a pretty easy blind.
