Today's Blind Items - Kindness

Is this the biggest kindness in the history of the world? Nope. Not by a long shot, but it is pretty big to show you what happens when people take time to do the little things. This initialed A++ list producer/writer/director and creator was filming in a local Los Angeles neighborhood recently. It is not a street that usually sees a lot of filming and took place on a quiet street. It was just some pick up shots for a movie, but our producer/director was there to supervise. When the residents discovered who was shooting and for what movie, they of course came out to gawk. Not a problem for our producer who took pictures, signed autographs and even let all the kids come out and listen on headsets and explained each shot in advance. Many of the residents baked cookies or brought out food for the crew and the producer got all their names and addresses and sent a personalized, signed note mentioning each item of food to each person. Definitely a nice touch and left everyone with some great holiday spirit and lots of love for our producer.

  1. J.J. Abrams? The only producer, etc., I can think of with initials.

  2. JJ is listed as the producer on 2 movies that are currently filing. N. Night, nada. I'm on the JJ train.

  5. JJ Abrams ftw!
I thought I'd heard some stuff that M. Night wotsisname was a pit of a prick?

  6. Wow, that's awesome. I haven't even sent my boss a Christmas card yet. Shit, I need to get on that.

  7. JJ Abrams makes sense. What an kind thing to do! I was especially moved by "even let all the kids come out and listen on headsets and explained each shot in advance". You don't see that for a lot of professions, let alone someone in Hollywood. Can't wait until all of these kindnesses are revealed on New Years!

  10. Has to be J.J. Abrams; glad to hear he's such a nice guy. He's one of my favorites in his fields.

Looking forward to the New Year's reveals; hope this is in the pack.

  11. Just watched the Star Trek movie with commentary on. JJ seems like a pretty nice guy.

  12. That's awesome, whoever it was.

  13. WAY off-topic, but everyone should tune in to the Vikings game tonight. The Metrodome still hasn't been fixed, so they're playing on an outdoor field, and we are in the middle of another blizzard. It's going to be damned funny to watch!

    Back on-topic, I say J.J.

  14. Abrams. He creates TV shows too (Undercovers, Alias), as well as makes films.

    ReplyDelete
  15. gotta be 'super 8', huh? i just watched the trailer.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mooshki - I take it you're not a Vikings fan, haha.

    ReplyDelete
  17. And he's currently making Super 8. I don't think Night is currently making anything. Though he is also renowned for his kindness.

  18. Good on him, whoever he is. It's the little things that make all the difference to people, like just being treated with RESPECT. This is very classy, and I'm sure made these people's days!

  19. JJ cares about what all of his people think. He is brilliant too.

  21. In a world where KK and LL and their ilk dominate the entertainment news, it's doubly wonderful and --dare I say it--inspirational--to know there is someone out there who really gives a shit.

Thank you, JJ or whomever you are, for making my day.

  22. I'm going with JJ as well. Sounds like it turned into a fun party atmosphere. And I bet when he said "Quiet on the set" they were.

I was just talking about M. Night's kindness blind the other day.

  23. No, Karmen, I am a Vikings fan (I have to be, being from Minneapolis), but I am an even bigger fan of schadenfreude. :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mooshki- they should have played the game here in Atlanta! I will be tuning in to watch. Thanks for sharing!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Going with JJ. While M Night is known for being nice... he usually shoots in Pennsylvania, not LA.

    That is wonderful, though. :)

  26. JJ ABrams! Everybody loves JJ! There are a few good ones out there!

    ReplyDelete
  27. JJ Abrams ftw. Based on what I know about him (just second-hand stories), it fits.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Loved JJ on the Star Trek commentaries. I hope this is him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Has JJ started the new Star Trek?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm nearly convinced it's Abrams but another candidate would be Michael Mann. MM is initialed, has created "Miami Vice", "Crime Story" and "Vega$" and is now supervising a new show for HBO, "Luck", for which he directed the pilot.

But I would call him first a director, then a producer, while it would be the opposite for Abrams.

  31. Go Vikes. Never thought I'd say that as a Packer fan.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mooshki - I work on that campus, and a whole lot of us bailed out early today. It was already total madness. It took me over twenty minutes just to get off campus.

I assume the folks who show up for the game are doing it more to show they're tough and a little weather doesn't stop them. But it'll be chaos after the game's over and everyone's trying to slide home in the blinding snow.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think it was a very nice thing for whomever it was to do. But I kinda find it sad that treating people with common courtesy and respect earns accolades. We should be doing that anyway.

But good for JJ or whomever it is.

    ReplyDelete
  34. While I love me some Vikes, this isn't their year! But this game will definitely be interesting. Wonder what Bud Grant has to say about everyone complaining about the snow and cold?!

    And JJ for the win.

  35. This made me tear up. First of all, if some big shot producer came into the poor neighborhood I grew up in and talked to us kids and let us wear the headphones, I'd still be talking about it.

Then there are the people who cooked food and made this into a community thing. Can you see this happening in a wealthier neighborhood? I really love this blind!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Whoever it is deserves great Xmas Karma this year! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  37. No clue, but nice move, whoever you are!

  38. What MadLyb said!!

    Love this blind too.

  41. And yet another Wisconsin-born Packer fan, currently living in Denmark. Where it is also snowing a lot this year - every day since late November!

  42. I'm going in a totally different direction and going with Spielberg, and it looks like Men in Black III is currently in production. Not many directors/producers have the kind of marquee name that would bring out an entire neighborhood and frankly most people in the real world have no idea who JJ Abrams is. But Spielberg? Doing Men in Black? You better believe everyone and their mother would be out gawking.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This was definitely Spielberg. He is known for being involved in pick up shots and second unit shooting. Also a big fan of the personal notes.

When I was in middle school, we had a project to send letters to celebs to get things for a charity auction. Not many people responded, but Spielberg sent Jurassic Park t-shirts with signatures (I'm hoping they were actually real, or else that's cold), some dinosaur figurines and 100 VHS copies of the movie to sell. He also responded to a letter congratulating me on my Eagle Scout award. Total class act.

    ReplyDelete
  44. you're right:Spielberg could be the guess

    ReplyDelete
  45. Spielberg isn't "initialed."

    ReplyDelete
  46. looking at the m. nigh reveal, i think the clue is in the first sentence. one of the very first comments on the reveal was along the lines of 'biggest kindness ever.'

    ReplyDelete
  47. Long-time lurker here, emerging just to say that JJ definitely writes letters to fans (I'm a lucky recipient), so I think he could most certainly be the answer to this blind!
