New York Weather Anchor Arrested For Falsely Claiming Rape

Heidi Jones does the weather for ABC in New York City and sometimes is on Good Morning America. Now though she has been suspended indefinitely from her job and has been arrested by police for filing a false police report. Jones had claimed that she was attacked while jogging in Central Park back in September and had only escaped being raped because some people came to help her. She did not file a police report about the incident until November when she told the police that her attacker had confronted her again.

Police scoured the area for video and witnesses but no one knew anything. So, police went back to Jones to get more information and at that time she admitted she had made the entire thing up. If convicted of filing the false report she could spend up to a year in jail.

  1. Well she's a piece of crap.

What was she looking for? Free publicity? I guess she got it. Too bad she looks like an asshole.

  4. Some people desperately desire attention, even if false or negative.

Like our old receptionist at work who faked being engaged, taking the LSATS, told her boyfriend she was going on a business trip to one of our offices (which was just a PO box)... she just could not stop lying.

  6. As a survivor this appalls me. I always wondered why women like this cry rape when nothing occured. I hope she gets the mental health care she needs.

  7. I just don’t get why anyone would do that. Actually rape victims have a hard enough time getting their cases prosecuted without stupid individuals lying about it.

  8. From NY Post:
Jones said she concocted the tale in a plea for sympathy to counter some unknown setback that she was experiencing in her personal life, the sources said.

  9. Yes Sunnyside......what was she thinking, I guess she wasn't...

  10. She should serve the year in jail in only because people like her make it harder for true victims to be taken seriously. It's like poking fun at rape victims when you make up a story because you're unhappy with your own life.

  11. I'm with you Momma. I am a survivor myself and they wouldn't take my case because it was too hard to prove against he said/she said. It's because women like this that makes it so difficult to prosecute rape. Pathetic. I'm just glad she didn't accuse anyone personally and ruin their lives.

  13. Agree with Treesap and mikey. Women that lie about this INFURIATE me. It makes it that much harder for actual victims to be taken seriously by police when people like her exist.

  14. Makes you wonder what the hell is going on inside a persons head if they would even consider making something like this up.

  15. To our survivors who have posted and others who are lurking, thank you for speaking up and know that you are in my heart. I cannot imagine your pain, especially if justice was never served.

This woman needs to go to jail for the reasons already stated, and I sincerely hope that her 'celebrity' does not save her. She has done so much damage to women everywhere with her foolishness. I have also dealt with an attention seeking liar, but her lies actually hurt people and I have no more patience for this behavior.

  16. I hate women like this. Doesn't she know that women died for her to be able to claim rape in the first place? Thanks for setting us back 20 years, Heidi. You asshole.

  17. Ugh....what a horrible woman! I agree with Sunnyside, she was clearly NOT thinking.

  18. This woman is clearly emotionally ill. It's not normal behavior. Not sure jail would help. But a few years of intensive therapy might.

  19. If you think to yourself, I need to make up a story about being raped so X will feel sorry for me - maybe X is the problem along with your neediness. Time for therapy.

    Stupid, stupid woman.

  20. Sounds like or is a form of Munchasens syndrome:

Münchausen syndrome is a term for psychiatric disorders known as factitious disorders wherein those affected feign disease, illness, or psychological trauma in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves. It is also sometimes known as hospital addiction syndrome or hospital hopper syndrome. Nurses sometimes refer to them as frequent flyers, because they return to the hospital just like frequent flyers return to the airport. However, there is discussion to reclassify them as somatoform disorder in the DSM-5 as it is unclear whether or not people are conscious of drawing attention to themselves.

  21. To the survivors, you are in my prayers. To Heidi, you are a sad twat. Obviously mentally ill. Nutjobs like this make it harder on every sexual assault victim everywhere! I feel equal parts anger and sadness. How sad and empty her life is if this is how she seeks out comfort and attention.

  22. I've always said that falsely reporting rape is as bad as committing rape. Why? Because, every time someone does this, they lower the credibility of real rape victims, who may have been victimized in a "fuzzy" situation (e.g. they were drinking before it happened). So this woman is a piece of shit. Enough said.

    Thanks Diane for the update.

  24. This woman claiming a false rape will result in many actual rapists NOT being convicted. Many of those will rape again. She deserves a long prison time.

I would never convict a man of rape unless there was video or he was caught in the act. The days of "she said" convictions are over.

  25. @cowbulls - uh, what? that's just ridiculous. just because there's no video or being 'caught in the act' doesn't mean a proper investigation shouldn't be carried out to send rapists to jail.

  26. ^Amen, RocketQueen

I hope she makes an apology for the amount of time/money that was wasn't on this & then she gets the help she needs so it never happens again.
