Neil Patrick Harris Is A Whippersnapper
When is the last time you actually heard the word whippersnapper to describe someone? My mom made me watch some TCM holiday movies over the weekend and I didn't hear it even in them. However, Eric Braeden used is to describe Neil Patrick Harris after NPH called Braeden a D-Bag. In his Twitter on Friday, NPH called Braeden that after Braeden pulled out of a cameo appearance on How I Met Your Mother. The actor pulled out after calling the part not substantial enough. Neil, obviously not happy with the situation then took to Twitter to complain.
Braeden told Entertainment Weekly, "His choice of words bothered me. It seems to me like a young whippersnapper, having seen himself on a few covers, who's received a few awards, is now suddenly suffering from the first signs of hubris. I've been in the business for 50 years. I've seen people come and go and I'm still here."
Braeden said he was exhausted from recent hip surgery and did not feel it was worth his time for two lines. For his part, NPH apologized and said that he was very protective of his show. Should NPH have called him that? No, but NPH is not usually an ass, so I am willing to give him a break. Plus, it is the holidays.
Eric Braeden IS a d-bag, so I laughed when I read that NPH called him one.
ReplyDeleteWho is Eric Braeden?
ReplyDeleteReading the article, looks like they got Ray Wise instead. Now that's an awesome character actor!
It's always bad form when people publicly bash others. I wonder if NPH is the one cheating on his SO?
ReplyDeleteEric Braden is a big fish in a small pond in the soap world.
ReplyDeletePrimetime network is a much bigger pool that NPH swims in.
It's not like Eric didn't know he was having hip surgery. And if it is so hard for him to get around you would think less lines would be easier for him. Or never agree to do it in the first place.
10 seconds in the Titanic doesn't make you a movie star.
Oh and to add, a year ago Sony wanted him to take a pay cut(they own Young & Restless) as every other soap actor had to.
ReplyDeleteIn his "hubris" he told Sony to take a hike thinking they wouldn't have the balls to stand up to him.
Sony kicked him off Y&R until he buckled and took the pay cut.
So Eric does know something about "hubris".
Bless you timebob! You stated EXACTLY what I was thinking about Braeden and his ego!
ReplyDeleteI believe part of NPH irkness (is that a word?) is that Braeden had committed to the show, and only when he discovered there were only 2 lines Braeden then backed out of his commitment.
ReplyDeleteI think NPH was a d-bag for the way he handled it, and I am one of his biggest fans.
ReplyDeleteI never would have been upset at this guy not doing my show, because I have no idea who he is.
ReplyDeleteBraeden plays Victor Newman on Y&R.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit disappointed when I saw that NPH had made those comments because I lurve him and it's so out of character. I give him a pass because it's not his typical behavior. I blame sleep deprivation. He has 2 babies at home and I know what a b*tch I am when I don't get sleep.
ReplyDeleteI don't think NPH was right to call him out, but I agree with the sentiment. What's that expression? "There are no small parts, only small actors."
ReplyDeleteI use the term 'whippersnapper' about several times a week, Enty.
ReplyDeletePerfect Timebob!
ReplyDeleteThe story from Braeden about why he couldn't do it keeps changing. He is a D-bag. Maybe NPH shouldn't have posted that, but I think he was upset because he cares about the show.
ReplyDeleteWas it unprofessional for NPH to call Braeden a D-Bag? Yeah, but he clearly loves his show.
ReplyDeleteAnd Braeden was extremely unprofessional for saying he'd come back and backing out at the last minute. Honestly, asking about the size of the role in the ep is something that should have been asked upfront- especially since he knew he would be recovering from surgery.
Of course, as timebob mentioned, it isn't the first time he's pulled something stupid. I seem to recall stories about him refusing to do interviews with soap opera mags umless he was guaranteed the cover.
This isn't the first time Eric Braeden has showed his douche-tastic behavior, and it won't be the last. If he had only claimed recovery from hip surgery in the first place, he could have avoided this situation.
ReplyDelete"His" show? His producers and co-stars will *love* hearing that.
ReplyDeleteBraeden has a HIMYM track record-he's played Robin's father previously, altho it was in a flashback -- I don't think he had any scenes with NPH. Anyone?
Maybe he was nasty to the crew on his last session and NPH is really calling him out on that.
I like the sleep deprivation angle.
ReplyDeleteEric Braeden has been doing soap operas for the last couple of decades? No wonder I'm still waiting for Rat Patrol, The Movie!
ReplyDeleteNPH looks like a whining, unprofessional d-bag in this.
ReplyDeletei really like nph, but that was a stupid move. i hope his people spin well. as for eric whatever...we can like him or not, but dude has a point.
ReplyDeleteI laughed because he is known to be a d-bag and his comment about not knowing who NPH was funny since he been his show before.
ReplyDeleteI meant EB has been on HIMYM before.
ReplyDeleteI love NPH but to post things like that on twitter seems wrong. When people use Facebook and Twitter to complain about someone it makes the complainer seem bad.
ReplyDeletecan't find the link but nph apologized the very same day he tweeted the d-bag comment. it was on "people" all weekend. he said something like he felt bad for making the d-bag comment, etc. good enough for me. sometimes we say things we later regret, if you're able to honestly own up to it, chances are likely you're not a total sh*thead. i am surprised that enty did not give the complete story though.
ReplyDeleteIt may have not been the most professional thing for NPH to have said this, but it doesn't mean he wasn't being accurate. I think he was probably upset that the role of Robin's dad had to be recast because HIMYM really seems to pride itself on continuity. If you aren't familiar with the show, it frequently jumps around in time often in the same episode. It isn't unusual for an entire episode to be based on something that happened in another episode from another season. The writers and producers have to be sticklers for continuity for that to really work. They always have the same actors and actresses playing the same parts. Recasting is a big deal for the show, and I think NPH was just expressing the disappointment that everyone who is part of the show is feeling.
ReplyDeleteThey are better off with the great Ray Wise!
ReplyDeleteTeam NPH on this one, all the way. (career quality over career quantity, FTW)
ReplyDeleteNeil could easily have deleted the comment and tried to pretend it never happened as other twitter celebs have done. He didn't, he left it up and has taken all the criticism full on. Braedon, on the other hand, claimed some high road due to his time 'in the biz' and then proceeded to make himself look like a D-bag with his comments. Public opinion wise, I think this is a draw, but NPH has so much gravitas in the industry I doubt it will affect him at all.
Braden is an arrogant jackass. He's never been known to be terribly professional and this latest episode confirms that.
ReplyDeleteNPH had every right to speak his mind.
Having had hip surgery myself, I can certainly understand EB's concern. But don't make a commitment you know you may not be able to complete. Besides, it is entirely possible he could have shot his scenes sitting down.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, Neil DID apologize for his comments, so as far as I am concerned the "feud" is over.
I wish Enty had posted the whole comment from Eric Braeden - it would prove what an D-bag he really is!
ReplyDeleteNPH shouldn't have said that (publicly) but he apologized. EB's response was pretty hilarious. The "worthy adversary" part made me laugh. How could he act like he doesn't know who NPH is? C'mon!
ReplyDeleteThe whole thing made NPH seem more down to earth. We all make mistakes. And he was a big enough man to apologize. Plus, he has new babies & a crazy work schedule. Although I wonder if they have a nanny?
ReplyDeleteRight on, timebob. It's also a well-known fact that the actor who plays Jack Abbott cannot stand Eric IRL.
ReplyDeleteWhile I agree it wasn't very professional of NPH, I agree with the previous poster who said he probably had had enough of his d-baggery.
On another note, here's a blast from the past:
