How many times have you seen a movie where the thieves tunnel into a building and steal everything? About ten, maybe more right? Well, someone actually did it for real over Thanksgiving Day Weekend and they did it in New York. Somehow, some person or persons dug a tunnel into a Manhattan apartment hallway. They then took their time and made off with almost a $1M worth of art including some Andy Warhol paintings and a Lichtenstein. The thieves were also smart enough to take the video recorder which captures all the security footage. Yes, there is no point in recording security footage if someone can just take the player. You would think if you would go to all that trouble that your recorder would be offsite, or inaccessible to the thief.
The police don't have a clue as to who stole it and unless they mess up, the person will probably never be caught. The sad thing is they will probably only get a few hundred grand for the paintings and they will never be seen again.
I heard about this. I am trying to figure out why the residents did not hear anything once the thieves were very close? The home owner was also marked because someone had to know what was there.
ReplyDeleteOf course, someone has to have planned the robbery....and cased the joint (always wanted to say that) or the apt. could have been in a magazine editorial ....anyway they knew exactly what was there...

ReplyDeleteI just looked up the original article the thieves broke in through the wall near the door....I've heard this before, people put all the money into the steel door and the locks...when the wall surrounding it is just an ordinary wall and easy to break through....crazy...this guy owned the entire building as well as tons of real estate and a very successful business.....

ReplyDeleteThis is a little bit of a tangent, but did you hear about the theives in Spain who stole a truckload art, and then tried to sell one of the million-dollar sculptures for $40 in scrap? Talk about stupid criminals.

ReplyDeleteAnother tangent: how about the violinist who stopped for a sandwich at Euston Station in London and realized her $1,850,000 Stradivarius had disappeared, along with a $95,000 bow? Police have apprehended suspects but not recovered the violin, somehow. Oh my God...
