  6. I'm kind of stunned by ALL the nominees for "Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical" with the exception of The Kids Are Alright.

Am I the only one a little disappointed by Boardwalk Empire? I find myself bored during episodes, wanting the action to move along faster. Not sure if I'll continue with Season 2.

  7. HAHAHAHA! Judi Dench and JLH in the same category! That's good for a laugh.

  8. wow, some of these are really a joke, The Tourist, really? I am rooting for Colin Firth all the way!

  9. PS - can someone tell me what mini-series or picture Idris Elba was nominated for? He's on my laminated list of 5 :)

  10. I'm glad The Big C is getting some attention, what a great show! I'm also surprised that Sons Of Anarchy isn't getting any love...I just got into that series and it is AWESOME.

  12. Deadline.com gives a pretty scathing review of how corrupt the Golden Globes are.

  15. @timebob - apparently! Also, Lainey talks about the GG choices today too - claims they're political. Interesting perspective.

  16. Wow - is Hollywood output so bad that these very mediocre movies and shows are really nominated for awards?

  17. The Tourist, Depp and Jolie in the Comedy/Musical category is the biggest WTF Head Scratching moment of the day.

  18. Dexter and his sister are sending ScarJo and Ryan R a gift basket right about now.

  19. OMG Christian Bale is nominated ! what happens? he never is nominated

OMG "the tourist" is nod????Jolie?Depp(twice)?i saw the movie last week in a press screen and it's not good(and Depp is miscat... and Jolie does a bitch face acting...and they have no alchemy...the story is no sense...and the final twist is pitiful)

  20. I went to the GG website and saw that Katey Sagal is in fact nominated for Sons of Anarchy. All is well. *L*

  21. Very strange list. Some so deserving and others so laughable. Lainey was right about it being a ploy to get people like Pitt Porn to show up. Glad for Bale. He is amazing..

  22. I cannot believe some of the crap that is on here. Was it that bad of a movie year? Blech!

  23. I don't think Scar Jo really wanted to get married. She was only 23. He pressured her.

  24. @sunnyside1213: My thoughts exactly! They want the Brangelinas and the Depp to show cause the organizers finally understand how incredibly boring this show is. The Oscars have become a self-serving joke.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The GGs are a joke, and the Oscars are a half-joke.

  26. @ MadLyb, at least Ricky Gervais is hosting. I guess they let him drink.

  27. Go Jackie Weaver! If you haven't seen Animal Kingdom do yourselves a favour. Great film, and not just because I'm an Aussie.

  28. Lmsam - I completely agree! WTF???

  29. Idris Elba nominated for Luther, a 6 part series on BBC network. Overall a good series even though I sometimes had trouble understanding what they were saying. Who would have ever guessed that Stringer Bell was British.

  30. The Golden Globes have a lot of internal controversy/potential ethics problems and are more about star power than qualty.

    Agree with rebellious' comment.

  31. Thanks Stephen - he's such a terrific actor. Great in the Wire and everything I've seen him in since. The English accent really ups the hotness factor :)

  32. The Tourist - what a joke - and so transparent - they just want Johnny and Jolie on the carpet ! The trailer for that movie is the pits - Jolie strutting around pouting those big fat lips - YUCK !

  33. @Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors

Completely agree with you about The Tourist being nominated for best Comedy/Musical. I thought it was a drama. Or, is it so bad, it's funny?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @RocketQueen I agree about Boardwalk Empire, I thought that was just me...so boring. BTW Ryan and Scarlett split?!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good for Melissa Leo! I heard she did an excellant job. I hope she wins.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Rocket Queen, re Boardwalk Empire. Riiight!? I thought the performances were wooden but the worst part was the make up. In HD, they all looked like they had been hit with the 'whore' gun (a la Marge Simpson). It really bothered me to the point of distraction.

  38. @jess and @john - thank goodness. This series is getting so much love and I don't get why. Buscemi is good and I started watching for Michael Kenneth Williams (Chalky White) because he was my fave in The Wire, but he's not in it enough to make it worth it. It moves TOO SLOWLY.
    And Michael Pitt....just ew.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Awww, no love here for Boardwalk Empire? I loved the show. Michael Pitt, Michael Shannon, and the war hero/sharp shooter are absolutely fantastic. And Steve Buscemi could win an award for doing a deodorant commercial as far as I'm concerned. ("What's a 'motherfucker'?") I'm rooting for both him & Christian Bale. Imagine that -- two incredible actors who never get papped/tabloid fodder finally being recognized for their excellence. It's the little victories.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree about Buscemi, Shannon, the sharpshooter and Williams, chopchop....it's the series ITSELF that moves too slowly. Some good performances, but not worth the drag.

  41. whatever. people buy their golden globes.

    boring.

  42. My husband loves Boardwalk Empire but I haven't had time to watch it yet.

I still get really annoyed that comedy/musicals aren't separated out.

  43. The Tourist is a comedy?

  44. Can I just say, I was interviewing Colin Firth yesterday when the nominations were being announced.

About 10 minutes in, his phone started going crazy with loads of texts coming in - clearly letting him know the outcome of the nominations. But like the perfect gent, he just ignored it, turned off his phone, and gave me his full attention.

    Top bloke.

  45. Thanks, Fletch. It's good to know there are still some stars we can respect. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. @fletch_in_dubai -- Oooh, I'm jealous! Lucky duck!

  47. Temple Grandin! I want to see Temple Grandin stand up and own these awards again!

  48. @john - I'm posting a day late just to ask if it really is a comedy. I thought it was supposed to be a thriller.

    Maybe it's an unintentional comedy.
