Carrie Fisher Outs John Travolta
In an interview with The Advocate, Carrie Fisher was asked the following question, “I know you and Travolta go way back, so let’s get really blunt here: Does his (Travolta’s) legal team have any business demanding Gawker remove a recent post suggesting that he’s given blow jobs?”
Well, Carrie was very blunt in her answer and replied, “Wow! I mean, my feeling about John has always been that we know and we don’t care. Look, I’m sorry that he’s uncomfortable with it, and that’s all I can say. It only draws more attention to it when you make that kind of legal fuss. Just leave it be.”
So, basically at this point, you know that Gawker's legal team would call in Carrie Fisher and everyone else who thinks John Travolta is gay. I think two things here. If John does not want to come out that is his decision, but I do think when he fights and fights he just keeps it out there longer and it is less likely to disappear. Did anyone ever ask her about anyone else? Love how honest she is.
I guess after a while you get tired of covering up for people when it's such an obvious lie....
ReplyDeleteGood for you Carrie....
I agree that coming out is - or should be - a personal choice. But I also think that filing lawsuits is only going to bring more attention to something he wants to keep a secret. He'd be better off just ignoring it if he knew it wasn't true...
ReplyDeleteAnybody ever thought that Travolta likes the publicity? Just a thought...hee hee...maybe he gets lotsa good a** that way. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove Carrie, but her hard life sure shows in her face.
ReplyDeleteLove her! Wish he would just come out already
ReplyDeleteHas to be THE worst kept secret in Hollywood. Especially now. It just seems so much easier to come out and be who you are. It's not like he is going for sexy, leading man roles anymore. I've always thought Vinny Barbarino was gay, but who cares?
ReplyDeleteIs this 'shocking' revelation being released now because of her new show on TV?
ReplyDeleteI tried to watch it on HBO but didn't like it.
I feel bad for her and all the drug-mommy-daddy-hollywood things that have happened to to her but I don't find her entertaining.
I'm sorry but people tend to forget that both John and Kelly have put themselves on the cover of every woman's magazine available for the last ten years, (or longer) proclaiminbg their love and devotion to each other and "How to be happily married in Hollywood", (NOT even going there) and his association with Scientology and their denial of their son's illness- they've been putting out bullshit to the public for years. Don't go on Oprah and declare yourself hetero just to sell a movie or a book. Go ahead and be a closeted gay man, but shut your mouth about your happy family- (although he may very well have a HAPPY family- that's not the crap he's selling on "Redbook" and "Ladies Home Journal".
ReplyDeletePatty, what you are seeing is a normal face for a woman her age. She hasn't had cosmetic surgery or botox. I find that refreshing.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that she 'outed' him since it's sorta already out there. I doubt she'll get a holiday card from the Travolta/Preston's though.
ReplyDelete@John - I doubt she will get any special priveleges when the space ships arrive either. ;)
ReplyDeleteShe'd probably be a blast to go drinking with. Can you imagine all the good dirt she must know about others in hollywood?
ReplyDeletei'm with kcqueen and melody. i think travolta asked for this and i think carrie's answer was honest---just like she is.
ReplyDeleteand so she's not a beauty queen. she's REAL---unlike most of the women in the biz.
@Melody the First - totally agree. She's no spring chicken, and she's a refreshingly honest (and surgery-free) person. Her blog is AMAZING, if anyone gets the chance. Not sure how I feel about her outing John, but I guess it was only a matter of time considering how non-discreet he supposedly is. I wonder how the hell he reconciles his homosexuality with Scientology??
ReplyDeleteI agree with kcqueen, the fact that he (or his PR team) pushes the "perfect macho man" idea down our throats it's what bothers me. I don't care if he's gay or not, a good actor will be able to portray ANY part that comes his way so the stigma that a gay actor CAN'T act straight is a lie, and it wouldn't make me like him more or less.
ReplyDeleteFRAUD from his marriage to his hair to the new baby to the autopsy on his son. the public does not like to be fucked with.
ReplyDeleteYears ago I met Carrie and her husband at the time (the former CAA agent) and their infant daughter. I had the pleasure of escorting them around a special event. She was super nice and appreciated what I did so much that she told her friend Candice Bergen to go and ask for me as well. (That's my brush with fame). That husband (forget his name) is the one who left her for another man. Perhaps Carrie's bluntness about this whole subject is a little bit of bias from her personal experience, and not just the usual Hollywood 'we all know, we just protect our own' philosophy.
ReplyDeleteI love Carrie for this. I'm sick of that self-loathing fraud.
ReplyDeleteFS.. right on the money!
ReplyDeleteI like to think that his wife is in on it. She beards for him, he provides for her, they both get the family life they want but each do their own thing on the side.
ReplyDeleteI honestly don't believe she meant to "out" him. She is just very blunt and it's clear that to her, being gay is no big deal. She answered the question she was asked. I don't know many people who have read gossip that don't know John Travolta is gay. Hell, I knew that back in the 1970's.
ReplyDeleteI can't agree. When asked about someone else's personal life, the only proper thing to say is "I'm sorry, I don't comment on anyone else's personal life."
ReplyDeleteThat said, of course he does the gay stuff. But people here who are commenting that it's a fraud that he and Kelly are devoted to each other....they seem to be very devoted to each other and their family. That doesn't mean they don't have outside liasions. But they do seem devoted and loyal.
I don't care if he's gay. We ALL know he's gay, so is this really an "outing"? I DO, however, care about the fact that he's still affiliated with a powerful organization which believes homosexuality in a curable sin. So, honestly, screw him and his privacy rights -- particularly if there's photographic proof of his dalliances. Sorry, but that's his own stupidity in action.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Carrie Fisher is THE BOMB. That woman's got more brains and balls than most of Hollywood.
FS -- you've met Carrie Fisher *and* Candice Bergen?! I love them both. Jealous!
and Meryl Streep, she was there with Carrie. Candice allowed me to come see tapings of Murphy Brown a few times after that, it was very cool. I was honestly surprised that Carrie said she had a good time, she seemed so focused on her baby that I hardly had to interact with her at all, just point at a few things and explain what they were. If I had had better networking skills, I would have turned that exposure into a job or something, but I was so worried about making my boss angry that I mostly kept my mouth shut the whole time (and I turned down a hefty cash tip for the same reason).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I like Carrie. She is blunt and funny and she has damn well earned the right to speak her mind. She doesn't strike me as malicious or petty, just honest.
I <3 you, Carrie Fisher. Rock the fuck on.
ReplyDeleteI heard through the grapevine that the Four Seasons in Boston had to pay out a $2M settlement to a masseuse there because of Mr. Travolta's proclivities.
ReplyDeleteCool FS! And that's a very good point about Carrie's past husband. Didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteita, patty. i have seen 50ish y/o women look better than her. that's hard living.
ReplyDeleteI don't care how open a secret Travolta's homosexuality is or isn't. Discussing someone else's sexuality is not okay. Especially when you know that person is not out and is in fact do everything he can not to come out. Living that lie is something John and Kelly have decided to do, and it isn't Fisher's place to out him. We have the right to not see John's movies if we don't like the way he lives his life. I like Carrie, but she was way out of line in this.
ReplyDelete"...and Meryl Streep, she was there with Carrie. Candice allowed me to come see tapings of Murphy Brown a few times after that, it was very cool."
ReplyDelete*GASP!!!* I am BOILING with envy! That's so amazing!
"Discussing someone else's sexuality is not okay."
ReplyDeleteDon't ask, don't tell. Right?
We live in a country that openly denies homosexuals many, many rights. Sexuality -- and the fact that it comes in many forms -- is something that NEEDS to be discussed.
If more gay stars came out, that would be a triumph. We need to examine WHY so many celebrities are supposedly so closeted in the first place.
Maybe she thought she was off the record with The Advocate?
ReplyDeleteEither way, he has got to be unhappy with her slip (even if everyone else already knows).
WE all know, but a lot of people don't.
ReplyDeleteRJ, you are absolutely right. It is one thing for straight people to say that we need to have dialogue about sexual orientation, but gays and lesbians do not all share that opinion, for various reasons. I applaud your sentiments.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Carrie Fisher. She is such an awesome, honest lady, who just isn't into BS. She's done a lot of good for a LOT of people, and she has worked her azz off to get where she is today. As far as this comment, I think it's perfect and damn well-said. I don't think she is outing someone as much as she's calling utter and absolute BS on wasting legal resources - money, time, angst - fighting gritty truth that no one would bother digging up, if it weren't for the pathetic lies the subject keeps trying to sell the public. The media and public love to catch a liar, especially one who has profitted off those lies (i.e., selling ridiculous interviews to home mags about their hot, romantic marriage, or how the church of $cient saved them from their vices). It's crap and it hurts people. So, I'm with Carrie 1000% for calling the bluff, and, at the same time, letting everyone know that is stupid to be ashamed when no gives a F*ck about your sexuality. Just quit trying to sell your load of crap to sell your crap movies.
ReplyDeleteHer brutal honestly scares me. I think her, Penny Marshall and Rita Wilson are monsters with their honesty.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Scientology was going to "cure" him?
ReplyDeleteAnd y'know, I would LOVE to spend a night out with Carrie.
