The Goopster On The CMA's

Well, I watched The Goopster on the CMA's last night and she did not do poorly. Did she do awesome? No, but she did not embarrass herself. I have to admit she looked nervous as hell performing it, and it is probably a really good thing she had Vince Gill next to her or it probably would have been even longer before she really got into it. She said on the pre-show that she gone to a bar and had a pint of Guinness. Maybe she did. If she did, then she probably gained 17 pounds but will have no problems taking it off and will probably lose it by later this afternoon.

  1. She's decidedly not Sissy Spacek.

  2. the weight from the beer was the first thing i thought as well.
she should thank Vince Gill for the rest of her life.
can we be done with her now?

  4. I'm not going to snark. She played an instrument. She sang live. Those two things are more than most pop stars do these days, let alone in front of a live audience with very limited singing experience.

  5. I'm applauding her. She looked so nervous, and do you blame her considering who was in the audience? I was pleasantly surprised.

  8. First, I agree with Sara! Props to her for even getting up there and actually performing live.

That being said, do I think she was awesome? No, but still sounded a HELL of a lot better live than Taylor Swift!!!!

  9. She did alright considering but that fake Southern accent turns my stomach. Why does anyone think that if they fake it no one will notice? I'm talking to you Kyra Sedgewick.

I thought she did alright not fantastic like some people are saying but alright. She did sound good for it being live. Now someone mentioned and I didn't notice until I went back to the video to see if that was true that there was another Fishstick double playing the guitar. So who was really playing the guitar??

  12. @everyone who said she "played" guitar...
Take another look at her right hand in that video.
It NEVER touches the strings. She goes through the motions of chording, but that's as far as it goes.
By comparison, watch Vince Gill on his guitar. He actually plays his.

  13. Oh she blows Taylor Swift out of the water. Here's betting country music not only will embrace her they'll send that song to the top and next year she'll be right back at the CMAs accepting an award for it. Above Taylor.

  14. I agree with Tenley.
    So much better than Swift.

  15. Okay, I grew up decidely "country". Once you live in a house with no running water, no central heat/air, and growing vegetables in the garden..then you are country. I would have been nervous if I was her, too. That being said, it pisses me off that she tries to "pass" when everything about her screams uptight, self-righteous, self-promoting, over exposed, under criticized, condescending and just so chalk that she has to drink milk to infuse flavor. Seriously. I'm over her. Wish she would get over herself.

  16. I still don't get how Fishy was cast as a "country" girl. That said, she did a decent job on stage. She looked nervous as hell, but if I had to perform after Loretta Lynn, I would too.

  17. She did fine. Even if the guitar wasn't plugged in.

  18. i can't stand her but she did a very good job.

and sorry, but the qualificiations for being 'country' just no longer apply. they used to, but they don't anymore.

  19. yeah, I think looking through the CMA pics, I didn't see much "country" there, but I still can't get over the put-on accent. On the bright side, now she has two put-on's under her belt ;)

  20. I agree she did a decent job. Can't knock her for the fake guitar playing (though she did a credible job of keeping up with the chords) because half of Nashville does that (oh, come on, you think Blake Shelton was really playing on stage? Ever notice how the guys stop strumming and yet, the music always sounds the same, hmmmm).

I loved that she looked nervous (especially the awkward stance), but I also loved how Vince was silently cheering her on from the sidelines. Vince Gill, my friends, is a SUPER SUPER SUPER nice guy. Don't believe any of those rumors that occurred when he got divorced and married Amy Grant. He got divorced way before hooking up with Amy, who also is a down-to-earth nice person (as is her ex).

Really not eager to see the movie, tho. Just like I wasn't eager, and still haven't, seen that karaoke movie she did! :-D

  21. I thought she sounded fine. But I actually did kind of like that song she did with Huey Lewis :)

    @chihuahuense -
Fake southern accents grind on my nerves too. Love Kyra Sedgewick but hers is AWFUL.

  24. It's country music. Not like she's playing Beethoven here. I think anyone can do this within two days. Or two hours. Not.So.Hard

  25. Blah. She did fine, as much as I hate to admit it.
