Shape Magazine Editor Admits LeAnn Rimes Cover Was A Terrible Mistake

Apparently when LeAnn Rimes showed up on the cover of Shape Magazine, lots of their readers were upset. And, for once it was not because of the publications' way excessive use of airbrushing and photoshopping. Nope. Instead it was because the readers felt that Shape was telling the world it was ok to put a homewrecker on the cover with a headline that says "How Working Out Saved Me."

This is what the editor said to everyone who wrote courtesy of toofab.

Subject: To my dear Shape readers

You are all in good company (why I'm e-mailing you all together) as you all agree Shape has made a terrible mistake in putting LeAnn Rimes on the cover.

Please know that our putting her on the cover was not meant to put a husband-stealer on a pedestal-but to show (through her story) how we all are human. And this woman in particular found strength in exercise in what she said was her most difficult personal moment.

But it did not come across that way ... And for that I'm terribly sorry.

I hope that we can do better the next time for those of you that will give us another chance.

Humbly,

Valerie Latona

Now if she could just do something about the unrealistic covers.

  2. So many things about this annoy me.

    1. If you're going to make an executive decision, stick with it. Don't redact it once people cause a scene. You chose this girl for whatever reason, so defend your choice.

    2. I find it questionable that she's going to apologize for that, but not tricking people with the wonders of photoshop, so you just perpetuate these unatainable weight ideals and that's alright.

    3. A mass email? For what? So only those who emailed you get an explanation? Seems, how you say, a pussy thing to do. If you were really sorry you would write an apology in the magazine itself.

Gah! I kind of dislike people.

  3. LeAnn Rimes is just not a good looking person. And if they wanted to photoshop, couldn't they have been something about her "Planet of the Apes" face?

When I saw this, I was wondering about it. Right now picking LeAnn is not a good choice. Doesn't matter what lame excuse she has for her affair and divorce.

  5. People need to relax. Seriously. She had sex with a married man. She didn't kill anyone. If magazines are going to start eliminating cover choices based on things like that, they're not going to have many choices left.

  6. OMG!! You're right, bflogurl..... she would be perfect in "planet of the apes!"

  7. I'm so glad to see that Shape editors are now also moral police. Thumbs down for stupidity.

  8. so i guess Angelina shouldn't be on any covers either? kinda ridiculous.

  9. this is so stupid....it's a fitness magazine not a religious magazine.

She is on the mags cover to show how fitness regime.

I swear some people are so stupid.....d cheating has been going on since the beginning of time... people need to get over it.

  10. Just when does anyone blame a man for his actions? He was married!

  11. i comment every time i see this bullshit from you and the rest of the world, enty. i am sick to death of hearing about the "homewrecking" woman. sure, it's a bad position to put one's self into, but she is not the only one doing something despicable.

the man has just as much if not more responsibility in the matter. but SOMEHOW we never hear any blame heading in his direction.

    huh. like sexism ever died.

    **steps down from soapbox.

  13. PS. have we forgotten about angelina jolie? should anna wintour be apologizing for having put her on the vogue covers? she was a homewrecker. or does leann rimes need to join unicef?

    this stinks of hypocrisy.

  14. I've got to go with those that are completely over the "homewrecking" title that has been pasted on Leanne. NOBODY knows what was going on in either of the marriages. Just because Brandi (or whatever Eddie's ex-wife's name is) was able to mount her PR offensive portraying herself as shocked and scorned woman, does not mean that it is true. Step off the soapbox peeps. It's not the first time married people have had affairs, won't be the last.

  15. If the morality police dictated who or what goes on magazine covers, there certainly would be a lot of blank pages out there. If someone I think is a douchebag or is questionable is on the cover, I just don't buy the mag. This situation is ridic.

  16. Oh for eff's sake. Jennifer and Brad have BOTH said that marriage was over before Angelina and Brad went public - neither have ever claimed any cheating took place.

Apparently only 40 people complained about this cover - this is just a non-story as far as I'm concerned. I don't like Leanne, but it's because she and Eddie DID cheat behind their spouses' backs and they lied about it.

  17. kathrynnova, look back and you'll see Enty and us trashing people like Eddie Cibrian and Balthazar Getty plenty!

  18. like Aniston OR Brad would ever admit it! Aniston looks like a loser, he looks like a dick for cheating and Angie a homewrecker, why WOULD they admit it? Publicity means more to these people than letting the public in on the truth.

i could care less what the truth is,just don't piss on me and tell me it's raining.

  19. Bflogurl-

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

    She is so ugly.
She's not even close to being a butter face because her body is meh too.

    LOL!

  20. Magazines generally kiss celebrities so a retraction probably means it was costing or potentially costing the magazine revenue. I suspect their readership is married women who worry their husband may be losing interest because they're a few pounds overweight. Obviously those readers would like seeing a husband straying. Similarly advertisers, selling family products, don't want their ads running next to someone who antagonizes their buyers. Its about money, not morality.

  21. Sorry jax, don't buy it. A marriage ended (for MANY reasons) and Brad found someone else. I don't see why that's so hard for everyone to accept.

  22. "A marriage ended for many reasons - I don't see why that's so hard for everyone to accept."

If it's true for Brad and Jen, then it can be true for Eddie & Leanne and drop the "homewrecker" assertions?

  24. I personally think they're different, MacVixen. There were charges, denials and finally admissions of cheating with Eddie/Leanne - not so for Jen/Brad. There have been many accounts of Brad just being sick to death of Jen's insecurities relating to her weight, her taking male hormones to change her body, and her unwillingness to start a family. That relationship, by all accounts, was well over before the public knew about it.
I'm not one to cry "homewrecker" to begin with. I just think it was shitty and shameful for Eddie & Leanne to sneak around on their spouses and lie about it so publicly. The fact that there were children involved makes it worse (to me).

  25. She strikes me as an ugly person, I'm glad she's getting some sh!t.

  26. Not a fan of Leeanne, but for goodness sake she wasn't the only one that had sex. Eddie seems to be getting away with it, but for some reason Leanne is the homewrecker?

As someone upthread said, Angelina makes it a habit to steal married men from their wives, yet she is still appearing on covers of magazines and no one is blaming her.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Eddie wasn't on the cover. Why would they call him anything? Leeann was on the cover, hence she gets the title - for now.

Rocketqueen, I agree 100% with your Brad/Angie assesment.

  28. I am with you, Sue Ellen Mishkey, esp. on point #1. I think this statement makes her look extremely unprofessional.

I think one difference between AJ and LAR is that I don't think it bothered AJ in the slightest when everyone was calling her a homewrecker, where it seems very apparent that it bothers LAR, given her comments/interviews on the subject.
