The Video Music Awards
I watched bits and pieces of the Video Music Awards last night. I did not have much enthusiasm for the show and despite some great moments like seeing Cher going back in time, I thought the show was just kind of meh. Kanye and Taylor Swift were boring. Why did they both need to sing a song about last year? They should have just saved us the extra five minutes and sang together. I don't even bother listing the awards anymore because they are all made-up and fixed depending on who performs and shows up.
Lady GaGa and her meat is already old. I think at some point she needs to move away from the outfits and just be a performer. The outfits thing was interesting for a year, but now it is tired.
Was it nice to see Eminem and Rihanna? Sure, but I didn't think it was anything special. It was nice to see Linkin Park and I did like the B.O.B medley, but that is probably just because I like Airplanes so much. As much as I am not a fan of Chelsea Handler I thought she did a great job. It has never been an easy show to host going back to the days when Chris Rock bombed hosting it. The audience wants to see performances and don't really want to see standup. With the advent of pre-taped segments and sketches, it has become a lot easier.
Here is the link to MTV, which has been kind enough to condense the show into about 20 minutes broken up into 15 segments because even they realize it is kind of boring.
