Justin Bieber Dominates Twitter

A guy named Dustin Curtis, who is a web designer, managed to snag an interview with one of the lead engineers at Twitter. What he discovered was that Twitter is Justin Bieber. That and Twitter must be a bunch of 13 year olds.

"At any moment, Justin Bieber uses 3% of our infrastructure. Racks of servers are dedicated to him."

Three percent? That is a ton. I can't believe there are that many people who are talking about Justin Bieber 140 characters at a time. What do they keep saying? Is it all about the hair?

What I wonder is if Twitter had been around at the prime of Backstreet Boys or 'N Sync would they have used up more than 4% of Twitter. It seems to me that they were way more popular than Justin Bieber. More fans screaming, more hotel rooms being staked out. Why do people like Bieber so much?

  1. Why do people like Bieber so much?

No clue. But my brother tells me that his tween daughter has two Twitter accounts and that one account is dedicated just to twittering (tweeting?) about Bieber. I can't fathom what they would twitter about other than his hair.

  2. Can you imagine the Beatles on Twitter. Now that would have been amazing.

  3. It must be so sad being a tween/teen these days.

  4. Yeah I can believe it. I think I have like 4 biebers on my list. I just assumed they tweeted so much because they weren't in school and their parents are too cheap for daycare or summer camp. But these kids are ridiculous. One girl is being followed by Justin himself, so she will send him direct messages to him if you follow her and ask her nicely, the others spend half of their tweet time begging Justin to follow them. And then there's @MrsBieberorDie. I'm hoping that she's some comedian and not a 9 year old girl. Otherwise our future is sooo f*cked.

  5. It makes sense to me. Seeing Jonathan Taylor Thomas on Dlisted's birthday sluts reminded me when I was in love with J.T.T. I named my teddy bear after him I got when I turned 9. True story.

If Twitter existed when I was that age, that's all I would talk about. Every girl loves a good teen heartthrob. More importantly, it's something every girl can relate to. It's another way of bonding.

  6. twitter was ruined by Bieber and when they pretty much banned his hashtag everyone rejoiced...and then he came back.

  7. I think Karmen said it beautifully.

  8. I wonder if he employs people to be Bieber? You know, the ones that spend all day Tweeting, reading tweets and writing what he says. They might be 40 year old unemployed writers who, in the interview, could write like Bieber.

A little creepy, as is all of entertainment these days.

  9. I think there is a PR machine behind those numbers

No way that many people are interested in this 1/2 ass talented mushroomed-head kid.

I know 20 people that have no idea who he is

  11. LOL, Thank you Karmen... for reminding people of first crushes! As a parent of a young girl who has Bieber Fever, I can offer you this... parents like this kid because so far, there have been no sex tapes, drugs, orgies, or anything else attached to this kid- he's goofy, so what? He's a kid!I would rather her first crush be on this kid than on, well... most of the people we come to CDAN to read about:-) !!

  12. Anyone else see those crazy vids on DListed last week about the fans freaking out about ex-fans ripping up Bieber's poster? These people are nuts.

  13. Isn't it about time this little punk's 15 minutes came to an end? Seriously, we must be at 14 minutes, 58 seconds by now.

  14. You under estimate the power of teen girls and that mob mentality. No one wants to be the out cast at school or in a crowd of kids, so even if they don't like Justin Bieber and would rather listen to someone else--they are terified of being banished from that inner circle. What is scary is how many of them think they are actually going to meet him and have that instant connection.

  15. have you seen the kid? he's adorable! and very sweet and personable. great w/ the press and surprisingly gracious. his star will eventually fade...but for now, let him live the moment. he hasn't gotten too out of hand. it'll ride itself out.

  17. Good question, Enty. But I'm sure my parents wondered the same thing when I went through my New Kids on the Block phase.

Its probably a lot of repeat Beiber Twitter offenders that post every five seconds....

  18. @skeeball - I don't know who Bobby Sherman is, but Leonard Whiting will forever be Romeo!

  19. i'm a grown ass adult STILL obsessed with the new kids, so i don't have much room to criticize (tho it's never stopped me)

my only gripe is the hair and the way he flips it all the time. a little feminine, no?

  20. I don't get the Bieber hate. I'm not a fan of his music and WAY too old to have a crush on him, but after seeing him for the first time on Chelsea Lately, I thought "how adorable!" That thought was reinforced after seeing him on SNL. He doesn't seem like a bad kid and I wouldn't have a problem with my teenaged nieces being all ga-ga over him. Hope he doesn't end up robbing 7-11's for drug money

And I still have a special place in my heart for Donny Osmond...
