Jon Hamm In Details
It is not very often I am willing to read through five pages of an interview, but the Details one with Jon Hamm is pretty good. Besides learning that he drinks Bud in a can, speeds when he drives, and has no problem with f bombs he is also perfectly willing to throw reality stars, housewives, vampires and werewolves under a bus.
"L.A. represents opportunity," he says. "And, as has been proven over and over in the current media landscape, it doesn't take much for them to put you on TV. If that's all you want, you can be on The Bachelor or The Real Housewives or whatever show just wants oversized personalities, ridiculous behavior, and zero dignity."
"When you try to learn how to act, you approach it with respect. But if you just want to be famous . . . that's not that much different than porn. 'I'm a movie star!' Well, no, you're not. You're a porn star, and that's completely different. And you know, hey, mazel tov—porn probably built half the houses out here, but you're selling your dignity in a way that I feel I'm not. And once you sell it, it's gone. You ain't getting it back."
He then discusses his new movie, The Town. "It's got a love story, it's got a crime element, but it's very much for adults. There's not a lot of candy for the Twitter-obsessed. It just deals with adult s**t—no werewolves, no vampires. Yet . . . they're retooling it for 3D."
He is also grateful that Mad Men is on AMC and not a network because he says that he would never have got cast. Well, I am grateful too because I definitely don't need to see Don Draper be played by Rob Lowe.
I don't watch Mad Men, but I do like Jon Hamm and this just makes me like him even more. I appreciate when celebrities are honest.

ReplyDelete*snort*
So true, Enty.
the more I see and hear of him the more I like him and that says alot because I think hollywood is a bunch of idiots who drank the koolaid
ReplyDeleteshwing!
ReplyDeleteThe Town looks really good.
ReplyDeleteHamm is amazing as Don Draper.
I appreciate Hamm's take on some of the stupid shit out there that is popular right now - vampires, Twitter, etc. - but he must realize that his fans probably partake in some of this stupid stuff as well. Some of his comments seem a bit snobby. Not that I care, just some people may.
Love Mad Men and love him! That is actually a celebrity interview I will read.
ReplyDeleteI watch Mad Men, Love it...Hamm was perfect casting...just perfect
ReplyDeleteGotta say I agree with him!
ReplyDeleteIf that's all you want, you can be on The Bachelor or The Real Housewives or whatever show just wants oversized personalities, ridiculous behavior, and zero dignity."
ReplyDeleteThanks Jon. Well said.
Even though I love vampires and werewolves (TV shows in particular. Hello True Blood, Buffy and Angel!) and I like Twitter, I'm not going to hold it against Jon Hamm that he has dismissed them with a few sentences. He's entitled to his opinion. He seems really genuine and cool. I like him.
ReplyDeleteHe was on Sirius radio a few months ago being interviewed by Greg Fitzsimmons. He is an actor's actor. He does not care about being famous or diva behavior. He said he was a catering waiter longer then a paid actor. He appreciates everything and takes nothing for granted. AND he has the best sense of humor.
ReplyDeletePlus the fact he has been with his girlfreind for over 10 years and she stuck by him when he was just a caterer. Makes me head over heels in love with him.
I have the same feelings about werewolves, vampires, Twitter and reality TV shows. This makes me love Jon Hamm even more. Swoon!
ReplyDeleteStop with the 3-D already! I like it for horror or kid's movies, but not for thinking movies.
ReplyDeleteLove the vamp & were stuff, but I do understand his point. And I do Tweet, too. Totally love the opinions re: reality "stars." I love him as Draper. Do not at all understand why women go gaga over him though, unless it's the character of Don Draper they love. Hated his character on 30 Rock. But I do think he is an excellent actor.
ReplyDeleteI may have to buy this issue. I think he's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI sent this to Enty, and though you all would find it interesting (particularly those who watch the show, including the recent episode "The Suitcase").
Article where Jon Hamm talks about battling depression:

Interesting, very honest and potentially helpful/encouraging to others who suffer from it. I wonder how his Scientologist co-star Elisabeth Moss feels about it, considering she’s ending a marriage due to her fervent belief system (or whatever the hell it is)?
I agree about the porn thing too. once you sell your dignity, it AINT coming back. Thank you, Jon!
ReplyDeleteHe is just crazy hot, smart, sexy.
ReplyDeleteWhat ^she said.
ReplyDeleteAnd he's friends with Paul Rudd, my other HUGE crush. They both have been in the business FOREVER but yet, seem so much more grounded than most celebs.......
Ah. Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd. Love them.
ReplyDeleteLoveLove & addicted to MadMen, but for Hamm to say that 'crafted' actors are not seeking fame as the trash actors are is absurd. Perhaps a piece of humble pie & cleansing-in-the-pool, like his character, is in order?
ReplyDeleteKudos to his honesty though, including that about depression. Very refreshing and damn hot imo.
Roger's still the man though!
