Greg Giraldo Overdoses

If you have ever watched Last Comic Standing then you know who Greg Giraldo is. For those of you who have not watched the show and I know your numbers are many, Giraldo is a stand up comic and a recovering alcoholic. He is also married and the father of three kids. Greg was in New Jersey this weekend performing at some comedy clubs and decided to have a party while he was at it. The next thing you know he had missed a performance at a recovery party and was being resuscitated by paramedics in his hotel room.

His management company said it was an accidental overdose. I would agree with that. People do not try and kill themselves at their own parties. Usually. Apparently Giraldo took too many prescription pills. He probably mixed them with booze and the next thing you know you are almost dead. I am guessing if he had been alone and not having a party he would have died. Think about the celebrities who have died or almost died from prescription overdoses in the past year and now think about how many people who are not celebrities probably suffered the same fate. How many doctors are doing this?

Lucky for Greg, he should make a full recovery.

  5. He is one of the comics on that show that is actually funny. I'm glad to hear that he will be okay. Hopefully, this will be a wake up call to him and he won't drink again. An addiction never goes away, it just hides in the shadows and waits to strike when the victim least expects it.

I hope he takes this as a sign to do something about his addiction.

  11. I knew it! I like Last Comic Standing, but cannot stand any of the three judges (it's ME ME ME with them all) and this guy was the most annoying. A couple of times I swore to my bf he was high. And based on the people that go ahead and don't make it on this show, I don't think I'll watch it ever again.

  12. How many unkowns die like this? My brother's best friend who was 39 and died after he drank too much and asphyxiated on his own vomit. The funeral is Thursday (here in Australia). I only hope it is the wake-up call needed for my brother to stop drinking.

  13. How is this the doctor's fault?? If the doc gave him a 'script for 30 xanax and he washed them down with booze, how is that anyone's fault than the person who OD'd?

Admittedly, some docs over prescribe, but an "accidental overdose" is no one's fault but the person who took the pills, unless the bottle was labeled incorrectly or the pharmacist made an error. STOP BLAMING THE DOCS.

  14. Awww, man, very sad to hear this. Hubby and I love this guy. Get well, Greg!

Drink if you need to, but lay off the GD PILLS, for fuck's sake. Everyone needs to just lay off the GD pills.

Get high smoking a doob if you need to. It can't KILL you!

  15. OMG this just breaks my heart. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Greg many, many moons ago and I always remember him as one of the most kindest, supportive people. Very few headliners that I worked with would take as much time as he did giving a young comic notes and positive reinforcement like he did. They were all too busy getting drunk or trying to get laid to care about some little upstarts opening 10 minutes. But he did. And I will never forget that. I am incredibly sorry to hear that he is having this difficulty, and I hope he has all the support he needs in this hard time. Get well soon, Greg.
