The great thing about the internet is that things can happen quickly. In addition, with the backtracking of links, people can read what you have written about a given topic. Within a few hours last week of writing the post about how US Weekly and other tabloids should be ashamed of what they were saying about Shiloh, US Weekly changed their headline and their article.
Their new headline says "PIC: Shiloh, 4, Frolics in the Pool" The article also removed anything about her clothing choice or dressing like a boy. I actually feel like we did something good last week. I think having so many people comment on the story and the strong reactions everyone had played a huge part.
I strongly think celebrities' kids should be off-limits to photogs, unless they're with Mom or Dad celeb.

These kids are not "in the public eye", not celebs, not able to make decisions as an adult.
This could be used as child porn. It puts kids in danger. We don't need to know EVERYTHING about celebs. Give 'em some privacy, for God's sake.

ReplyDeleteCoupled with the recent "news" (like who hasn't seen it coming for years...) that girls are reaching puberty younger and younger, it'll be more than some sick pedos can stand, so we need to be EXTRA vigilant not to post pix of peoples KIDS for chrissakes.

US Weekly should be ashamed, EVEN if the parents use their kids as publicity. Ought to be a law.
And I cannot even get started on BS like Toddlers & Tiaras. Grrrrrrr!!! Seeing adults purposely slutting-up children makes my skin crawl.
Personally I don't care if Shiloh is gay or straight....Happy and healthy is a good beginning...
ReplyDeleteRegardless of her wanting to dress like a boy, I think 4 years old is too old to show a topless photo of a girl. She is not an infant, she is pre-school age. Not right.
ReplyDeleteIt was unnecessary to use this photo in the first place, and making any sexual remarks about a child is just low. I agree that celebrity children should be off limits except for organized functions like red carpet events or planned interviews with the parents where the children are included.
ReplyDeleteNow they just need to remove the photo too and get a fucking clue. Stop sneaking around in bushes, taking photos of little girls in pools. It's creepy. Why doesn't US understand that basic point? It's a private moment and they are not famous. Kids should be off limits. Period.

ReplyDeleteAgree with Jim B 110%. Children of celebrities should not be targets of photos. It's one thing if they are with their parents on a red carpet, etc. (when there is an expectation of being in the public eye) but it's just intrusive otherwise.
ReplyDeleteWith fame comes responsibility on the parents as well. They should NOT allow their daughter to be seen in public without some sort of top on. I agree with the poster above. She IS a girl and needs to dress appropriately. Why no fingers pointing at parents who would allow their children to be seen in public like this? They KNOW full well that they will be photographed.

ReplyDeleteI do think that some celeb parents do a good job of shielding their kids from the press and others use their kids for PR.
I was born in Norway where kids are not sexualized like they are in these parts of the world. It makes no sense that a four year-old should have to cover up none-excistent breasts! She is years away from puberty.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, since I do live in the US I do cover up my two year-old daughter myself. At home she runs around naked, but she has to wear proper clothes outside. I do find it a bit depressing, though.
@Ice Angel: How do you know this isn't a private function? Or on their property, or a friend? I agree something more gender-appropriate is needed if this is a public event. This pool doesn't have a public vibe.

ReplyDeleteI am a little shocked that some people feel that a four year old kid should "cover up". I find that notion a bit disturbing. I see little girls in triangle bikinis that say "juicy" on the bum all the time, and I have to say I find Shiloh's shorts a hell of a lot more appropriate. She's a KID. There is nothing to cover up.

I disagree with all of you. It has been well noted that Angelina guides the photos that are shown of her and her family. IF Angelina and Brad DID NOT authorize this photo and it was taken on private property they would be suing and the picture would be removed altogether.

ReplyDeleteTo the people sniping at the child for acting like a normal kid (including suggesting she "dress like a girl"), honestly, I'm worried more about YOUR children than I am about that little girl. Little girls do not have breasts. To suggest they cover-up non-existent breasts is ridiculous. Little girls ran around in shorts all summer when I was a kid.
Leave her alone. The photographer should be ashamed of himself.

If you looked at that photo and didn't know it was Shiloh, you'd think it was a boy. She shouldn't have to wear something to cover her chest just because our society has recently decided little girls are supposed to.
