Rooney Mara Is Lisbeth Salander
Sony Pictures sent out a press release today announcing that Rooney Mara will portray Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie and presumably all the sequels to follow. I am assuming they will make movies out of all the books but who knows if it will be a hit or not. By the time it comes out everyone will have seen the Swedish version which is great so maybe people will not need a Hollywood version.
Now, the second installment from Sweden was not as good and much less people have seen it so maybe Hollywood can make that better. Plus you should get to see Daniel Craig naked a lot and Alexander Skarsgard at least in the first one so there is that.
I haven't seen her in anything, but lookswise, I hope they'll do what they can to "de-prettify" her. I can see why they cast her. She's an unknown, and has a certain charm to her that comes through the camera.
ReplyDeleteI was kind of rooting for her, she has a cool name.
ReplyDeleteEnty, it's Stellan Skarsgard, Alex's dad, who will be in the movie, not Alex (sigh). Although Stellan is an awesome actor.
ReplyDeleteisn't there a part with Stellan's character as younger. Alex would be a natural for that. *SIGH*
ReplyDeleteGive the hair a good chopping, dye it, and give her a new wardrobe, some fake piercings and tats, and she'll be fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad they didn't cast someone better known-the names being bounced around were all wrong for the part.
ReplyDeletehas anyone seen her in anything? can she act?
ReplyDeleteJust Saw the first Swedish movie, Thank you Netflix...loved it...friends say the 2nd is very very violent..
ReplyDeleteIMBD shows her latest bio...

I haven't read the book so don't get all the hoopla. Can anyone tell me if it's that good?
ReplyDeleteI still think its completly weird and ridiculous that the fucking Swedish movie just came out and stupid hollywood in all their arrogance is making a re-make. Oh Im so sorry there are subtitles in the original, jeesh.
ReplyDeleteSeriously I hope the movie bombs just because its really dumb that they are doing this.
end rant~
I like older guys, so Stellan is more my type than Alex anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteLiza, I read a lot of popular crime fiction, and the books were definitely a step above the usual fare. Smart, and original. Warning: they're very dark, with a lot of sexual violence. The Swedish title for the first book translates to "Men Who Hate Women."
Yes it's worth all the hoopla! I just bought and read the first book in the trilogy, (Dragon Tattoo) and read it in 4days. It's over 600 pages but I just could not put it down. I was surprised there was already a movie made about it but can't wait to see the US version.
ReplyDeleteI loved Ellen Page in Hard Candy and thought she could use that character as a basis for Salander but doubt she would want to revisit a character so close to something she's already played.
In David Fincher's defense, he's not remaking the movies; he's adapting the books himself. I see nothing wrong with that. Maybe he's them in a completely different way. It has nothing to do with subtitles or dumbing it down for American audiences. It's just a popular series.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, he got a pretty, rich girl to play Lisbeth? He must be a big fan of her work since she's in "The Social Network", which he also directed. I don't see it, but Fincher made me think Brad Pitt was a good actor, so maybe it will surpise me.
who?
ReplyDeleteUm, this girl's waist is SO TINY - and with layers on! Wow.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean that Emma Watson cut her hair for nothing?
ReplyDeleteVikingwench is right.
ReplyDeleteBut this girl has lovely face bones and looks appropriately thin for the character.
She must be thrilled, that's a career maker. Yay unknown girl!
I wonder if her real name is 'Mara Rooney' and she switched the order for it to be her stage name? She wouldn't be the first to do so...
ReplyDeleteI just finished the first one, and I'm just getting into the second. I absolutely could not put the first one down!!! I think my BF was regretting getting my the Kindle for Christmas :P The book starts a little slow, but give it time. And, yes, what Mooshki said-dark, violent and lots of sex!
ReplyDeleteWell this girl sure has the Anorexic look down. Now, can she act?
I didn't read the first book but saw the movie. Really liked it a lot. Waiting for the 2nd movie on NetFlix.
ReplyDeleteBirth Name
ReplyDeletePatricia Rooney Mara, little sister of Kate Mara who must be green with jealousy. Kate has been trying to make it big for years.
i hated this book. i'd never read the rest of them. but for that character, i think this girl's too pretty.
ReplyDeletethe swedish film was very good though. it was because they cut to the chase, got rid of some extraneous bullshit and improved on the book dramatically.
Lucky dog.
ReplyDeleteHer family was also key to the founding of both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, and her uncle is still the co-owner of the Giants.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give her a fair shake... I am about to finish the 2nd book and wow, thats going to be very dark as well...
ReplyDeleteThe books ARE THAT GOOD... I thought the movie was good, but they didn't have enough Erika Berger in it- and I think the American version is casting such a known name (Robin Wright). I though they didn't give a lot of Blomkvist's character background that helped develop him. But I <3 Noomi Rapace.
I love her name. And I'm envious of her waist. Other than that, I haven't read the books so can't really comment.
