I am not into the endless debates of baby bumps or whether someone is pregnant. Mariah Carey is fascinating though because she is such a diva that I often wonder what kind of mother she would be. I see her as someone who would change a diaper once herself just to say she did it and then it would be Nick Cannon or one of the 10 nannies who would do it everyday.
Do you remember the scene in Wall Street where Michael Douglas and Sean Young are playing with their son and bragging about he speaks French. They play with him for 30 seconds and then the obviously overworked nanny is told to take him inside for food and a nap and what the boy needs to wear to bed for his nap but he is treated more like a doll than a human. I wonder if that is how Mariah would treat any baby she has.
Anyway, it is all speculation at this point whether she is pregnant. I think she has been pregnant before but has maybe had some issues so if that is the case, I really hope that if she is pregnant that she manages to take the baby to term. I also think that is why Nick said what he said on his radio show this morning.
"Honestly ... I say this to you so you can tell whoever it is you've got to tell, we all know it's extremely personal, and it is for a woman to deal with things with her body, and especially when dealing with the idea of childbirth and all that stuff. We know that we're public figures and that's something but ... that's something that you want to keep near and dear ... until you're 100 percent sure in any situation ... There's a certain time limit that you're supposed to wait before you actually can officially say that you are. You've got to take all those things into factor and it gets really heightened when you're one of the most famous people in the world because you don't want to mislead anybody."
To me it sounds like they are waiting until she is three months along. Good plan. What do you think? Pregnant or not pregnant and what kind of mom do you think she will be?

I'm sure the child, if a girl, will be the diva from hell. I predict that she will be named Princess Mariah II.

I think it is pretty clear from his comments that she is pregnant, they have had issues in the past and they are waiting to tell everyone until they are in a better space. Not to get all serious here, but that happened to me except people at work knew I was pregnant. I have two blood clotting disorders and knew better than that, but people asked so I told them. Let me tell you, there is nothing worse than losing a baby and being devastated about that and then still worrying about having to tell everyone and go through it over and over again.

Why is everyone assuming she needs to be on bedrest? I know lots of women who have had miscarriages and are older moms, but haven't been put on bedrest until the last couple of weeks.

ReplyDeleteValerie,you are correct. Usually a woman that has miscarriages early on are told to live a normal life,since nothing can stop a early 1st trimester miscarriage.

The only issue she may have @this point is Advanced Maternal Age.. I am pretty sure she cracked the piggy bank to take care of the simplest of problems that most women have when they are unsuccessful with getting pregnant. There a PLENTY of situations that make you HIGH RISK without having to STAY IN BED it is called ADL without restrictions. I wish her and her husband luck and I hope for a full term delivery

It sounds like she's prego, and I really don't like it when people are asked that question when it's not quite clear especially if she had previous issues.
ReplyDeleteMy girlfriend was asked when she was due about a month AFTER she gave birth. C-sections make some mommas look like they're still prego. The lady who asked felt like a jackass, but what are you gonna do?
You never know. A baby may change Mariah's diva ways.
From Nick's comments, it does sound like she is pregnant and like most couples they want to make sure everything's OK before announcing it.

ReplyDeleteAs for her being a good Mom or not. You never know. Some of the most put together, responsible women I know are crappy moms and visa versa. I look at it this way, if she is not that great of a Mom, at least she has the financial means to be sure that this child is well taken care of and that is really all that matters.
p.s. - as long as she doesn't name it Sparkles Sunshine Glitter Carey Cannon.

ReplyDeleteI was really skeptical about this quickie marriage for a while, but this statement makes me think he's a good guy who really loves her. And he handled the question delicately as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well, and that she has a boy. For Nick, and because I fear a girl child will be perennially decorated like a parade float.
I agree with Vitazza. Also, who knows? Maybe she has a coagulation disorder that causes her to miscarry? Actually pretty common. And if she has had losses in the past, would make more sense to keep quiet for now.

ReplyDeleteAnyway, ditto what everyone else said. She's probably pregnant but may have had trouble carrying to term. Those comments Nick made are more reliable indicators than her just "getting fat".
I think she's been on fertility drugs,hence the weight gain. She might just be into four months or so and has some concert commitments that would be cancelled (for insurance reasons) if the pregnancy became known. (See: JLo/Marc Antony tour ending five minutes before the twins arrived.)
ReplyDeleteSomething(s) bad happened in her house when she was a kid, so I'm hoping she has substantial household help. Cannon actually seems like a terrific guy -- I hope she's treating him very, VERY well.

As to what kind of mother she'll be? Only time will tell, however I'm willing to bet on a serious increase in household staff - you really don't think Mimi is gonna change a dirty diaper do you?
All I know is that I WOULD NOT want to be her child. I'm guessing that's a special reincarnational Hell reserved for those who have been especially naughty in a previous life. Like Bernie Maddoff & his ilk.
ReplyDeleteWow! I was so sure she was NOT pregnant based on the pics from yesterday, but now I think she is! I am so excited for her! I hope she's able to enjoy motherhood, as non glam as many parts of it can be!
ReplyDeleteShe must be on some kind of drug that makes her swell. She looks like someone attached an air pump to her belly button and pumped away. Usually drugs do that to your system. I only hope she takes her doctor's advice and take care of herself. And for God's sake - no more stilettos until after the baby is born!
