NFL Player Marries Stalker

I know there can be more than one kind of stalker. There are the knife and duct tape carrying kind of stalkers and then there are the ones who are harmless and fun and go through stalkees like a man changes channels on a Sunday during football season.

When you call the police, go to court and file a restraining order against someone for stalking you and was “abusive, vulgar and irrational” you would tend to put them in the first category. Not so if you are NFL player Chris Chambers. Just 8 months ago, Chris said all that about Stacey Saunders in court papers. Now, he has divorced his wife and married Stacey. Huh?

Yep. He went from fearing for his life to dumping his wife to marrying his stalker all in under a year. She will probably become the poster child for all stalkers everywhere hoping their dreams come true.

  1. oh great, now delusional stalkers will have this to add as fuel to the fire! yikes! i bet they will all have a little shrine to her in their private stalker quarters, complete with candles and headless chickens.

  2. Whenever I think humanity can't get any lower or any more deranged, something like this happens and I realise there is always another level of crazy to be had. Thank you world!

  3. So very strange. Makes me wonder if actually he was carrying on an affair with her, the wife became suspicious, and he filed such papers to "prove" to his wife that he wasn't having an affair, this was a freak, nothing was going on? I mean it makes no sense otherwise.

  4. Tenley, I like your theory. That would not surpise me in the least.

  5. Ooohhh, Tenley. That is a great thought. I'm jumping on your bandwagon.

  6. This doesn't surprise me too much. I dated a guy who told me he thinks stalking works out for the best sometimes, because if his grandfather didn't stalked his grandmother, then he wouldn't be alive. The stalking his grandfather did was harmless, but it was still creepy.

That's when I started distancing myself from him. Even after I ended things with him, he would relentlessly try to hang out with me after I said we shouldn't. Apparently stalking is genetic.

  7. @Tenley - That was my first thought too - Something in the milk ain't clean here...

  8. Hey Karmen:

Back in the day, wasn't it called courtin'?

And I don't want to read any comments about professional athletes being stupid because this guy...but remember Tiger...Big Ben was just...never mind.

Last night someone tried to convince me that Elin Woods was to blame and that I should feel bad for Tiger like they do. Offensive!!!

  10. I'm with Tenley -- this sounds like they'd been having an extramarital affair. Maybe she threatened to tell the wife, or they were on-and-off, or something like that, but I doubt she was a stalker in the true sense.

As to the term in general, there is "stalking" and then there are hopeless lovesick fools. The two are not the same IMO. I've had guys who liked me follow me around, holding out hope when they have been given no encouragement, and acting generally moony and pathetic; I have also been the one acting that way over some guy I was hopelessly hung up on. Aside from being annoying, it was harmless, and the one with the unrequited affections is hurt far more than the one who isn't interested.

If the person gets scary/violent/abusive/breaks laws, etc., that's a stalker. I think were such a stalker-sensitive society now, we're overusing the term and doing a disservice to real victims.

  18. Mr Pink - The guy told me that his grandmother tried to get rid of him several times (much like I ended things with him twice, each time making him more persistent), and he actually followed her to her house to get her address. Maybe things are different nowadays with Facebook, but following her home really creeped me out.

  19. Ok... I have met these people. I have also met Chris Chambers' family (mom and sister). I had no idea.

I am a limo driver in San Diego and I picked Stacey up from the airport last year (probably in Sept/October) about two or three times. She was very nice to me and she tipped me $20. Even when I refused to take it since he was still a Charger player and it was out of my respect for the team. I also figured that since he paid for the limo & tip was included, I didn't want to take any money from his lady.

She even came to our big grand opening party with him. They seemed very loving. He was a big client of ours! Always treated the drivers and the owner with resepct and even gave them free tickets.

I drove his sister and his mother one night also, they were hilarious! I love them! I told them that I had driven Stacey around before and told them what a sweetheart she was to me and they rolled their eyes. (I guess that explains it). They made a comment too, but I can't remember what it was...

    Just my 2 cents.

  20. You know, there are all kinds of stories about how the girl said no and the boy didn't give up and eventually they lived happily ever after.

There is obviously a huge difference between being a little persistent and stalking. But its the individuals that determine if its a game, annoying, creepy or dangerous.

There are a bunch a movies that take the whole don't give up the pursuit thing as romantic as well. Did Duckie stalk Andie? Did the Geek stalk Samantha? If I could get through the fog I'm sure I could find some better examples (also some that aren't John Hughes movies). Still its been a running theme and presented as comical or romantic.

And Elin is to blame! Having kids and staying home to take care of them while being all beautiful and stuff! What deplorable behavior!

  21. I just read on two other blogs that Chambers had admitted to having an affair with the woman and from how the article was written it seemed to be that the admission came around the time that the restraining order was made. Apparently, Stacey was pestering him, his wife, mother & sister. Maybe when things were going south between them?

So I think Tenley hit the nail on the head & also what MissJenny said.

  22. What? Get the fug outta here.

  23. Sure, there are plenty of movies with those love stories. From what it sounded like to me, the grandfather pestered her enough that he grew on her. I guess they fall into that category. I'm not a fan of that, though.

More importantly, I think it's a matter of interest. If I were into the guy, maybe I would've found his persistence endearing. However, I wasn't and he became really annoying and creepy really fast. No means no, not try again later. Repeatedly. Clearly the tricks he got from his grandfather didn't work on me.

  24. Agreed. I was technically "stalked" once in college. Of the annoying kind. I just never thought about it until now how that situation could be turned so many ways.

If MCH is correct, sounds like our lovebirds here must have kissed and made up. By the way, nice tux Chambers. Did you save that from your prom?

  25. That was his girlfriend and he called her a stalker.

  26. Tenley has a really good theory. It's just strange how can someone fall in love with the stalker..no effing way!

  27. L, I totally agree with you when you talk about overusing the word and doing a disservice to the victims.

And I'm with you all, this girl was totally with him. They probably deserve each other.

  28. I am with Tenley! In my single days, I dated a guy with a pregnant girlfriend (I did not know about her) and he told everyone I was stalking him when I gave him a piece of my mind. Cops will tell you this type of thing happens a lot. I live in California where stalking is a felony and many people abuse the system here.
