Lindsay Lohan Out Of Jail - Off To Rehab For Meth
I actually stayed up pretty late last night waiting to see if Lindsay Lohan was going to be released and if it would be a spectacle like the Paris Hilton release. That one was one for the ages when she gave high fives to deputies and cameras were everywhere. There was no such scene this morning though. Lindsay was released from a side entrance at about 130 in the morning and headed directly to UCLA where she will spend the next three months dealing with her addiction to meth and living with bi-polar disorder. Really? Did anyone else know about the bi-polar? Has she ever talked about that before? I wonder if it is true or just a way to get more meds. Something as serious as bi-polar seems like something Dina or Michael would have exploited long before this. Like, "She works so hard and does so many amazing things and she does it all while being bi-polar." Also, they are not a family to keep secrets about medical conditions if money can be made, so I have my doubts about that.
So, in rehab she gets to keep taking all her other meds. How is that going to solve the problem of her addiction? I don't understand that at all. Also, you might have missed the news last week because it was a little blurb in most places but Lindsay has been dropped from that Linda Lovelace movie. Guess they did not want to wait for her after all.
I give her until mid-December before she's back to her old tricks. Wish her the best, but expect the worst.
ReplyDeleteDitto that, 0.
ReplyDeleteAlcohol and drug use can bring out latent illnesses. She can be impulsive (a symptom of bipolar disorder), but I'm not sure if that's from a mental illness or her belief that she can do whatever she wants, get away with it, and deny ever being responsible.
ReplyDeleteBipolar medication is some heavy stuff. Some medications in higher doses are used for epilepsy. It wouldn't surprise me if she received this diagnosis to zonk herself out.
That whole incident with the carjacking and rundown seems like a classic manic episode. But what about the depressive episodes? It seems like we'd see a lot less of her if that were the case.
ReplyDeletekate, i agree with you but people handle their depression in a variety of ways, even manic depression. if she was using alcohol and drugs to 'cure' herself or make her self feel better, she was going to the right places to get them (ie: clubs, parties).
ReplyDeletebipolar symptoms often arise during late teens and early twenties as well.
i just hope she gets help. really true help.
The Linda Lovelace movie sounded really sick. I hope it doesn't get made at all.
ReplyDeleteKate - She definitely has signs of depression. There was an awful voice mail between Michael and Dina where they argued over how Lindsay cuts herself, and should she die, the other would be responsible for her death. I had never felt so bad for Lindsay after I heard that story.
ReplyDeleteAs much as we all make fun of Lindsay and the mess she's become, I do hope she finally realizes this is her last shot and decides to take rehab seriously and turns her life around. And to be honest, Lindsay is too good for that Linda Lovelace movie. It sounded like a hot mess and that's the last thing she needs is more hot mess.
ReplyDeleteWoah!! Dropped from the Linda Lovelace movie?!?!?! When/where was that posted? I haven't hit the internet since Friday.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with chopchop, it sounds like a disgusting movie that would probably shred what's left of her self-esteem, so I'm glad she's not doing it too.
I'm not sure if I buy this bipolar bit, but Lovelace was an interesting person who was used by the porn industry and abandoned by gloria steiman(sp?).
ReplyDeleteWhy all the hate on the bipolar diagnosis? I am sure she was interviewed by a court appointed psychiatrist and is going to a court approved rehab program. These professionals are used to dealing with liars and manipulators. Some people have messed up brain chemistry and need drugs to function. And the thing is, drug use alters brain chemistry, and she began partying very young, while her brain was still forming. And was exploited by her parents without regard to her well being. Obviously they are not self aware enough to realize their role in her downfall. I feel sad for her, and wish the best for her future. It's all up to her now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if she is really bipolar. I'm more inclined to think her psych diagnosis is narcissistic personality disorder.
ReplyDeleteBut assuming for a second that the bipolar diagnosis is legit, I have to say that the medications used to treat it not only aren't anything you'd use recreationally, they come with a boatload of side effects you don't want. It's not like ADD/ADHD where you get to take speed and stay thin.
But it's all a mute point because I think the bipolar bullshit is just that.
Princess Pines - I think the "hate on the bipolar diagnosis" isn't so much on the diagnosis but on the person itself. As you know, medical professionals can't talk to the media. We are gettin the information from her camp. I think everyone here is simply suspicious that Dina and Lindsay's PR crew are manufacturing a serious diagnosis in order to spin Lohan's drug addiction and narcissism in a more sympathetic light.
ReplyDeleteAt least that's how I feel about it.
Indeed, Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors.
ReplyDeleteA huge amount of people who are bipolar are addicts. I assume because they probably start to self medicat before a diagnosis. At that point it can be hard to tell what's going on because of the drugs, they're probably treating the depression and it can hit in your twenties.
ReplyDeleteWho knows if she has it, but even if she does meth is a really hard drug to kick, especially with her mother and friends being such huge enablers.
I'm delighted to hear that Lindsay was not allowed to go home to Mommykins before beiing put in rehab.
ReplyDeleteNow I hope for her sake that this rehab place has strict rules about visitations.
Lindsay needs to seriously detox from her toxic parents, especially Dina. I think even Lindsay knows her dad is a asshat.
Am I the only one who is surprised about the meth thing? I thought it was coke for her?
ReplyDeleteAlso, who is releasing this info? Surely not the medical professionals as that is against the law.
So if it was her camp I would think they would have not said the meth part and maybe used prescription meds or something. Just for the simple fact that meth is more taboo than prescription meds and people would tend to look down on that more.
I think it's more likely she's Bipolar II, not bipolar. But who knows. Hope rehab sticks and glad she's not making that movie - would love to see her stick with lighthearted stuff until she gets right.
ReplyDeleteMeth.
ReplyDeleteThat explains a lot.
And they didn't say WHICH Bi-Polar she is...there's two types...so I'm in the camp of thinking that diagnosis is B.S, also. If anything, she exhibits traits of BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER.
Trust me. We can smell our own kind.
I'm damn glad that she's getting help...but she's going to fall off the wagon like whoa. Why aren't any of the A-Listers who have been down the road she's on reaching out to her? No one's trying to sponsor her or give her advice. That's kind of...sad to me. You think that someone...not like Dr. Drew or anyone looking to "help" her...would have said, "Look, cupcake...knock it off...we're going to go to Bali for three months and get your head on straight".
well, if she is expecting 'fun' meds for bi-polar, she will be sorely dissapointed! she might get a mood stabalizer, or anti seizure meds (which is what i am on). no fun buzz. my bi-polar mad me abuse alcohol, but thankfully i never touched drugs. i sure hope they can give her therapy and the the other help she needs. i hope they make sure she knows that she will have to KEEP ON taking her medication everyday, because it is really easy to relapse. sad sad sad
ReplyDeletei'm not shocked by any of this. i know a few bi-polar people and she fits it to a T. up and down, bad decisions, manic episodes, intense neediness at times...ya sometimes the drugs bring out the BP that was laying dormant or undiagnosed.
ReplyDeletei think being dropped from that movie is the best thing for her. can you imagine having to get into character for *that* with an already fragile sanity?
ReplyDeletei mean, blanche dubois put vivien leigh over the edge of sanity (being bipolar herself) - can you imagine what linda lovelace would do to lindsay?
gosh, i just want to see this girl get better.
I think that Lindsay is a "use any drug available kind of gal". She may have her preferences, but if it is there, she'll more than likely indulge. I can see her having narcissistic personality disorder. That's probably more common in today's society than bipolar disorder.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think any of us TRULY know what her illness is. How do we know that it is someone is Lindsay's camp that disclosed the bipolar diagnosis? I really doubt they disclosed the meth, couldn't it be someone inside the treatment facility? The facility would have her medical records and she could have been diagnosed a long time ago and not been taking her meds. (which is why they didn't show up on her jail med sheet) Enty said that people would be checking in to get the scoop.
ReplyDeleteI am somebody that has been to several rehab facilities and even worked at one for a year. In my experience, her being bipolar is not in the least bit unusual.
She wouldn't be trying for a diagnosis, there is nothing in that diagnosis that gives good meds.
Sorry for the rant. I know she makes her own decisions, but being in the same situation to some degree at one time...Including the family in utterly disgusting denial about the severity of my disease. I have empathy for her.
YAY for FIVE YEARS clean!
this one's special! i'll diagnose lindsay with BS--bull shit.
ReplyDeleteyou do not get to pass go and collect 200 bucks for your dealer.
Klondyke - I was going to diagnose her with another form of BP: Bitch, Please. I deal with a few of my own mental illnesses but NOTHING this loser does convinces me she suffers from ANYTHING more than obscene amounts of entitlement and shitty personality. I WOULD like her to get clean, because I'd like anyone with a drug problem to get clean, but it wouldn't change the fact that she's a narcissitic bitch.
ReplyDeleteAnd if she is indeed allowed to keep her meds in rehab...then wtf is the point? She's IN a hospital, they can deal with withdrawals and anything that would come with not taking ANY meds. Yes, Dr. Jen sticks with her original diagnosis: a nasty case of Bitch, Please. :P
@kvr - congrats on your 5 years!
ReplyDeleteI was 5 years clean & sober before any doctor would diagnose me with bi-polar. They hesitated up til that point because, although there were indications of it, nothing clear cut.
Then came the extreme manic episode. At the time, I was trying to get myself admitted to a psych hospital so I wouldn't drink & to keep myself safe. It was then I was diagnosed and yes, as some prior commenters have said them's some heavy drugs, make you lethargic more than anything til it's stabilized in your system.
So, based on my & others' experiences, I call shenanigans on LL's bipolar. Please, Jeebus, let this 3 months do her some good.
It's too bad Lindsay does not have a family that will help her instead of doing things for their own benefit. If Lindsay doesn't do something to help herself the next thing we will be reading is her obituary.
ReplyDeleteI call BS too. She saw that bipolar worked to fix Britney's image, so she's giving it a try. I agree, she's got either Narcissistic or Borderline Personality Disorder.
ReplyDeleteIf she thinks bi polar meds are going to be fun, she better think again. Lithium turns people into zombies.
ReplyDeletekvr is right. this isn't a trick diagnosis. she got evaluated by 2 shrinks. maybe she's just been undiagnosed for a long time but i think it fits.
ReplyDeletei also don't believe she'll continue on the drugs she's taking in rehab. she'll go through detox and i doubt she'll be on anything other than depakote or whatever they put her on for the BPD.
forgot to add, i have a dear friend with BPD. they experimented with many drug combos but she is NOT lethargic, she has a very demanding job, and is a very productive person. you don't have to be a zombie because of that diagnosis. you can live with it and be very high functioning with the right combo of meds.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone's offered to step in and sponsor/help her because she's not at the point where it would do any good--as far as she's concerned, unless things have changed dramatically over the past 2 weeks, she doesn't think she has a problem, and you can't help someone w/a problem if they won't even admit to having it in the first place.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible she's bipolar, but I'm thinking it would be regular old bipolar disorder; bipolar 2 is, IIRC, a variant where the highs aren't quite as high, and the lows are much more prevalent (kind of depression w/mid-range manic episodes). (It's possible I have the latter, although so far the diagnoses have been plain ol' depression. *sigh*)
I have BPD2. It's pretty common in artistic types. I wouldn't be surprised if LL had it. She certainly exhibits some BP and most BP2 symptoms.
ReplyDeleteBTW, Little S&M, it's "moot point," not "mute point." I know that's nitpicky, but it's one of my own little annoyances represented in modern language.
The flipside is true-bipolar is the diagnosis du jour and there is no real indication whether being an addict leads to those symptoms or if being bipolar leads to being an addict. And yes, I can diagnose people and won't do one from afar or on the computer, BUT I hope it's not just a way to excuse her behavior, which unfortunately it tends to be. She may be comorbid with another disorder, which would make sense too. But I don't think ppl are hating on the diagnosis, just hoping it's not a convenient way to excuse her behavior or have her get the proper help.
ReplyDeletei have bi-polar 2 and i am definitley not a zombie! i drive a school bus and work in the local pre school...if anything would make me a zombie, it would by my job!
ReplyDeletei think BPD 1 is more likely to need lithium in higher doses, and that might make you feel tired but i don't know.
and as a side note, i also have ADHD and take Adderal. bi polar and adult ADHD mirro each other, and sometimes you can have both and not realize it. maybe she wasn't taking the adderal just to stay thin...who knows
For the zombie effect I was thinking of Lithiium. My adhd was misdiagnosed as bi polar and I took lithium for about a week. I couldn't form a sentence let alone talk. Glad to hear there are new drug combos that allow people to be normal.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to get into the whole DSM-IV skepticism thing, but ... the redefinition of bipolar in the fourth edition of the DSM ended up creating a very broad category of behavior that could be diagnosed as bipolar. Especially problematic (in my humble opinion) is the possibility that someone might go manic because of Adderall or meth or Ritalin and then be diagnosed as bipolar because of an extended period of manic behavior. Bipolar no longer refers to "manic-depressive illness," but is a widening category of its own now.
ReplyDeleteI read elsewhere that this was a miss communication. Shes addicted to amphetamines, as in Ritalin and Adderall not methamphetamines.
ReplyDeleteI could see her having BPD or SOME kind of personality disorder for sure. Meth also makes alot of sense & I was surprised this was admitted since we were always told that Lindsay was "FINE."
ReplyDelete@Barton Fink...Lithium scares the bejeeber out of me! my doctor used to threaten me with it until he diagnosed the ADHD. i'm glad you finally got a proper diagnosis. Adderal was the best thing that ever happened to me! the bi polar meds stopped the swinging, but not my racing brain and my absolute inability to sit still or finish a project. i also couldn't stop drinking even with the bi polar meds until Adderal...crazy stuff
ReplyDelete@Mrs.M5, I haven't been diagnosed, I'm just pointing out that the DSM-IV has broadened the definition of bipolar to include extended manic episodes. Lots of the posts here seemed to be speaking of bipolar as manic-depressive, so I thought I'd say my piece. Stimulant abuse of almost any sort, including caffeine, can trigger manic episodes that could potentially bring someone within the definition of bipolar. Which is fascinating, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteComments tl;dr.
ReplyDeleteFYI - Adderall shows up the same as meth on drug tests. Which is why I have to tell any possible employers what meds I'm taking. It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
If she's only taking Adderall that's been prescribed to her, I hope she sues for slander the ever-living Hell out of every site that's proclaimed her a meth addict.
actually, c17, it does not show up as the same thing. substance testing ran through a reliable and certified lab will do what is called a gc/ms test to determine whether or not the amphetamine in question falls within the parameters of methamphetamine use.
ReplyDeletewiki or google it. kinda hard to get into on a gossip message board :)
i do drug testing for a living, so this whole drama has been of partic interest. poor girl, i really want for her to pull herself together. sadly, i don't hold much hope.
Interesting to hear so many folks up-post talk about taking Adderall in addition to bipolar meds. I wouldn't think that would be a medication that would mix with BPD, but I'm no pharmacologist. I do help La Lohan gets the help she needs and her family buts out for once. Which might also mean that we can stop hearing about her every darn day, which would be nice ...
ReplyDelete@NotOprah, If I never hear another word about her, I won't complain! From your lips to God's ears.
