Hey Jean-Luc Godard Give The Academy Awards A Call

On the very, very slim chance that Jean-Luc Godard or someone he knows reads this, the Academy Awards is looking for you. They want to give you an honorary Academy Award. They feel bad you never got nominated for anything in the past, especially films like Breathless or In Praise Of Love. Well, the 79 year old Swiss citizen who lives in Paris cannot be found. The Academy has left messages and e-mails and sent faxes, but no answer from Jean-Luc.

Never easy to reach in the first place, the publicity shy director might even be a no show even if The Academy finds him. Turns out the man loves a good smoke. Lots of them. Lots and lots of them and long plane flights deprive him of this pleasure.

I find all of this very humorous. All of the Americans who are getting an honorary award were reached within like five minutes. Well, we live for that kind of thing. I think Jean-Luc is probably pretty happy just enjoying his life, making some films and sitting at a cafe drinking some coffee and having a smoke while the world goes by. One day maybe he will check his mail and see the statue and say that's nice.
