Fantasia Says She Intended Her Overdose

Fantasia has a new album coming out tomorrow. She is also going to be on Behind The Music airing tomorrow night. In the interview she says "I didn't have any fight in me. I didn't care about anything. I just wanted out. At that moment, I wanted out. I wanted it to be over with – all of it, all of that s**t."

"I just sat in the closet and looked at the mirror and took all the pills in the bottle. I wanted to go to sleep and just be at peace. I knew exactly what I was doing. You can't accidentally take a whole bottle of pills."

She says when she woke up in the hospital she still was not happy then her nurse told Fantasia she still had not fulfilled her destiny and that made Fantasia all better.

It was fortunate for Fantasia that her manager discovered her within 10 minutes of Fantasia taking all the pills after she texted him she did take them all. The timing of all of this is suspect but I think it was definitely a cry for help. I know it is convenient that she has a new album coming out and that during this whole time she had a film crew following her for her reality show, but you don't take a bottle of sleeping pills without understanding the consequences. I do think the whole affair thing and the possibility of being sued by the wife is hard and the pressure of being talked about for something other than your music is probably rough so I can see her doing it. I do know that because of all this she is going to have much bigger record sales than she would have otherwise, but as cynical as I am I think it was a genuine suicide attempt or at least a very loud cry for help.

  1. Like I said on dlisted, there must be some accountability for ur actions. She knew full well that her paramour had a wife & kids, and Fantasia went so far to tell his wife "that the next time the wife gets a man she will treat him better". Then Fantasia cant handle the pressure of being sued by the wife. I am glad the wife had the recourse to be able to sue her hubby's mistress. I am sorry Fantasia, but if you dont look for trouble, then u wont have any trouble. You should have backed awy the minute you found out ur honey had a wife and kids.

  3. I'm sure this latest "affair" garbage in her life is what put her over the edge. From what I understand her family has sucked her dry financially. Shes been under stress for years. This just compounded it tenfold.

  4. Attempting suicide is a crime in some states. Too bad in NC there are no laws against her actions.

  5. I don't see the point in making suicide attempts a crime. It's clear they need help. What's jail time going to do except make someone more depressed and suicidal?

  6. Um, not for nothin', and I'm a big Fantasia fan, but does she have a light in her closet? How was she able to see herself in the mirror?

  7. Why why why is everyone writing about this today? I don't get it. Someone overdoses, then a couple weeks later says "Yes, I actually meant to overdose" and it's hot news, posted on every website.
WTF? It's not like she ever once denied it. She never said it was an accident.
    Why is this news?

  8. What bothers me is the fact that she has a child. I did alot of stupid things when I was a single parent, I am sure. However, taking my life was never an option, no matter how dark things got. Of course, I didnt' have a manager, or show producer, or assistant, or any of the other managerie that she has to assure I would be found before it was too late. I have no doubt she has troubles and needs help, but it is sad that her child didn't figure into her statement of why she is now "all better".

  10. She is once again, in light of her child, very selfish. How low can she go? Wow.

  11. i think the reality that the wife could actually sue her and being played by her man got to her.

when you're that down in the hole, you don't see alight, you don't see you kid..you just see despair.

making suicide a crime is the fucking stupidest things i ever heard. like it's going to stop someone...they gonna be DEAD! they just gonna make sure they REALLY dead if they attempt it.i remember reading in High school that states with that law have a higher occurance of violent suicides.

  12. this just pisses me off that she has a kid....hello??? what about the kid that she's always saying she will give a better life to???

  13. I agree with jax. When you are that depressed, you don't think right.

  14. It's sad that things like this happen but the public opinion it's hard...she should know that, it's not like people weren't going to talk about her. Either way, she should get some help.

  15. fine, if your that depressed that you can no longer consider your child, than get help. I liked this woman, I really did. Now? Not so much. And it has nothing to do with the afair. It has to do with the fact that her kid wasn't even an inspiration to get well or turn her life around. I hate when kids have to pay for thier parents poor decisions.

  16. Agree with Karmen and jax. That's just what somebody who wants to die needs: a fucking arrest and charges. That won't worsen the situation at all. Jesus. Some people are so insensitive to depression.

  17. For those of you questioning why people would do attempt suicide when they have a child, I completely agree: it's selfish and irresponsible. Nonetheless, you'd be surprised how often it happens. My high school best friend's father committed suicide. So did the father of my step-sister's friend.

When someone is that depressed, they think so low of themselves that figure their family is better off without them. I am in no way condoning it, but it's hard to understand unless you're in their shoes.

  18. someone's pissed off because she had a kid????

obviously you know nothing about being suicidal. you don't care---you want the pain to end. and you think everyone who loves you will be better off without you, including your kid.

i'm not defending her---i'm not even addressing her particular case. i'm just saying when you're that deeply in despair and everything looks hopeless, it's the only way out you see. so don't judge people so harshly.

  19. The people who really want to do it, never tell anyone or cry out for help. They just end it. If she really wanted to die, she'd be dead.

    Fail.

  20. No matter what leads somebody to attempt to take their life, if you haven't been in that situation, please don't judge. I'm speaking from personal and family experience with severe depression. Some of us have kept going, some of us haven't.

And, yes, there's still quite a stigma against those who are suffering from mental illness. I lost a job last year because of things I did (or, in this case, didn't do) while suffering from a recurrence. Got past the immediate crisis through therapy and medication, but couldn't save face with my employers. And I know this could happen again in some way, shape or form. It sucks and it shouldn't happen, but it does. And when someone gets to such a low point that they just want it to stop, you don't think about how it affects others. As those above me have said, the mindset is that your family would be better off without you.

Having an affair with a married man is wrong, but I think there's more to her than that. I think there's some desperation there that spiraled out of control and hopefully she's getting the help she needs to move forward. Won't be easy, so good luck to her.

  21. First from what I've seen of her family SHE doesn't have a good support system. They are always around her but that's because they expect her to support them.

Second I have had a lights in all of the closets of the places that I've lived in.

Third to the people who called her selfish because she has a child I think her attempted suicide is a lot less selfish than those parents who KILLED THEIR CHILDREN because they were depressed or unhappy.

  22. "The people who really want to do it, never tell anyone or cry out for help. They just end it. If she really wanted to die, she'd be dead."

That's not true. Before my friend killed himself, he texted his ex saying he was at "the end of his rope." The bitch never answered him or showed up to his funeral. He also tried calling a few friends, but they didn't answer because they thought he was just drunk (he was and had been abusing his meds). Those friends felt awful for the longest time. I hope they've forgiven themselves, since they're not responsible for his actions.

I'm just glad Fantasia's manager was there.

  23. @Karmen - That is horrible....I'm sorry about your friend. :(

I don't agree with her affair, but glad she is ok.

So did she get "Behind the Music" before the affair thing was annouced..??

  24. My comment has less to do with Fantasia and more to do with the media. When is the media going to stop hovering like vultures over human misery? However, I'm also a little confused as to why someone, who is so depressed by the pressures of her life and attempted suicide, would be giving media interviews about it a week later and inviting more pressure and scrutiny? This kind of twisted media is yet another reason why I am happy that fame is not something that makes my world turn.

  25. @Karmen

It's probably not 100% true, I was just thinking of the people I have known that have attempted vs. those who have actually done it and the ones who completed it, there was never any help me's or anything, just dead.

I'm sorry about your friend. It's such a waste to kill yourself.
