Angelina Jolie As Marilyn Monroe. Really?

The Telegraph is reporting that the book The Life And Opinions Of Maf The Dog is about to start shooting and that Angelina Jolie will be playing Marilyn Monroe and George Clooney will be playing Frank Sinatra. Crazy. I can maybe, maybe see Clooney as Sinatra. I think he is too nice. Angelina Jolie as Marilyn? Not a chance.

The story is about Marilyn and the last two years of her life as seen through her dog which was a gift from Sinatra in 1960.

What do you think? Angelina as Marilyn?
George as Frank?

  1. Clooney would make a better Peter Lawford.

  2. A movie from the point of view of a dog? The f*ck?!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Meh. As long as it's not Lohan, who I'm guessing would do just about anything for that part.

  4. No, no, no. Just ridiculous on so many levels.

  5. Maybe Mel should play Frank.

    ReplyDelete
  6. No Please.......

  7. I thought Clooney didn't like Angelina??

    ReplyDelete
  8. Isn't Namomi Watts going to play Marilyn Monore in Blonde as well(a much better canidate IMHO). Has Marilyn Monroe become the new fad lately?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Angelina as Marilyn? No.
George as Frank? Eh. Maybe if he gets some blue contacts.

    ReplyDelete
  10. i feel like she has been the new fad forever... honestly, i can see angelina sex appeal wise, but not look wise, if that makes sense

    ReplyDelete
  11. WTF???? seriously? Thats like Nicole Kidman playing Liz Taylor...No no no

    ReplyDelete
  12. Who plays the dog? Sean Penn would work.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ok, I'll say it. I think Angelina isn't hot anymore, I just don't see it. When she was in Tomb Raider was awesome but she's too skinny now and I think she looks cartoonish. So no...no angelina as Marilyn.

Georgie boy? well he does have that certain old Hollywood look.

  14. Disaster. For many reasons not the least is that such a performance can only reduce the star magic of the pretender. No one is as amazing as the original. So no matter how good Angelina and George could be, they can never be the original and thus, reduce their own stature in the process. Real Hollywood stars don't play dead Hollywood stars without reduction. Faye D may have been great in MOMMIE DEAREST (or camp, depending on your take) but she was not Joan Crawford.

What? Is this an animated comedy?

Wow so now Angelina is Cleopatra and Marilyn Monroe. Yeah right. LMBO!

    @_-_,

The way I heard it Angelina doesn't like George. I can't imagine the two of them playing in any movie together but stranger things have happened.

  16. WTH?

    Wrong. Just wrong.

  17. Angie went blond for "Life or Something Like it" (you can see images here: http://www.google.com/images?q=angelina%20jolie%20life%20or%20something%20like%20it&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1280&bih=645)

I thought she looked OK but I don't think she'd be believable as Monroe.

That said, I don't share the hate for her that many other have on this site. I think she is great -- a good mother and a good humanitarian. So what if she plays the paparazzi game? Most of them do.

  18. I am going to take this one with a grain of salt.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I cant see Angie as a blonde bombshell.
She is just a different kind of sexy.
Why why why do they always try to mesh people like that?
Being good looking does not grant you the liscense to be the doppleganger to every attractive person in history.
To suggestion such a thing and for angie to think this is plausible really shows her narissitic side for what it is.

    ReplyDelete
  20. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! I still like Angie too, but she's wrong for this.

Besides, doesn't everyone know by now that Christina Hendricks is our generation's Marilyn Monroe?

  21. 'as seen thru her dog'...wth? much as i love doggies...uh no. someone really put up $$$ for this?!m

I can almost, almost see someone like Scarlett Johanssen; buxom blonde. Angelina is too tall and skinny; wrong all the way around. Plus, she (IMHO) doesn't look good as a blonde.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I agree with what most of you have already said...Angelina is not right for the part. Too skinny, too tall, too overtly sexual (in a different way than Marilyn was)...but you never know, she is a decent actor, she might surprise us all.

I have an easier time with Clooney as Frank Sinatra.

  24. worst. idea. ever.
    on every aspect.
Hollywood is a joke these days.

I can't see Jolie or Clooney playing either one.

  26. "As seen through her dog"

I can believe this. If they can greenlight the Beaver, they'll fund anything.

As for the Jolie casting ... maybe the dog was psychotic?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ick. How is someone as skinny as her supposed to play one of the curvier movie stars of the old days?

I'm not saying she's not pretty - she is - but not in a Marilyn Monroe sexy, curvy kind of way.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can someone refresh my memory. Didn't Frank film a drugged out Marilyn having sex with a black man and blackmail her? I thought I read something like that on this site in the comments.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I vote no on both.

Maybe they could have made it work several years ago, but they're too old now (sorry George and Angie).

  31. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thousands upon thousands of actors out there, and these are the two they pick?!?! LOL

@Paisley: Yeah, you're right. Sinatra was a cunt.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Moment of silence for the agony that Paris & Lindsay are probably feeling for not being considered for the role.

LOL @ all the comments re: the dog.

As much as I dislike The Jolie, I still think she is gorgeous/sexy but not in a Marilyn Monroe way.

  33. Anyone who hasn't popped over to Lainey's site laineygossip.com should check out what she has to say on this, I totally agree.

It is along the lines of what TinselSass says above.

So no - terrible idea. Plus, IMO - Angelina looks like ass as a blonde - from Gone in 60 Seconds to Girl Interrupted to WHATEVER she does with blonde hair.

Demi Moore also looks like crap as a blonde, so do I and frankly, I think Lindsay does too.

Blonde is hot, but not for everyone.

As for Clooney (well I'm sure he looks like ass as a blonde too, lol) playing Sinatra -- Sinatra kinda sounds like a C'Unt for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Paisley, I vaguely remember reading that. Sinatra had a very, very dark side.

    LOL, MCH!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I have to wonder if anyone in modern Hollywood has actually seen footage of Marilyn Monroe or Frank Sinatra to even consider using Angelina or George. WTH!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Christina Hendricks! The role of a lifetime for her.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @LooserDude - I could TOTALLY see that, maybe even more than Scarlett!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Marilyn had a innocence about her; even in her most outrageous, sexy drag, she had a trusting quality that drew both men and women. We women like Marilyn....

Angelina has none of that; angelina has a cynical sexuality that says: 'I dare ya!' I don't think women trust angelina- I don't. No way she can be Marilyn.

George as Frank? George always has that mocking quality in any role, as if he's standing on the outside looking in. Sinatra was a great actor, but there was something of a broken-winged bird about him, which women adored. They wanted to fulfill him. And he had that "I don't give a fuck.." attitude. Clooney? not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just can't see Jolie as Monroe. They both embody a different kind of sex appeal. Plus Marilyn was a voluptuous, curvy bombshell, and Jolie is a frail-looking twig these days.

    i luv laineygossip!

  41. Can you imagine the fat suit Angelina would have to wear to play a size 14 Marilyn Monroe.

    NO F'N Way.

    ReplyDelete
  42. As much as I love Angelina, there is no effing way this is a good fit. She's practically a skeleton now, and could never pull off Marilyn's curves. Also, I agree she looks like ass as a blonde. Sorry Angie.

I like the Christina Hendricks suggestion.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Clooney is Dean Martin and that's about it.

Sinatra should be someones like Donnie Wahlberg. that mofo can serious act and he can pull of the look.

Marilyn should be either Amada Seifried of whatsherface the Scientlogist from Traffic.

or option c- ditch this trainwreck sounding movie and save some money.

  44. Speaking of REAL CELEBRITY NEWS, Michael Douglas has some sort of mouth/throat cancer and will be undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments for it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Oh, Oh, according to Lainey Angelina was asked about this and she said right now it's just a rumor which means it could actually come true.

I really hope that someone is playing a joke on us.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Clooney could play Peter Lawford but Frank? Lord, No.

Angie as MM? HELL NO. The woman looks like UNICEF should be feeding her meals.

I will not be paying money to see this waste of Hollywood cash.

  48. I agree with Sage1 - and actually I've thought for years that - don't laugh - of all the celebs, Britney Spears actually has that dizzy, vague vulnerability - she doesn't have the gleam in her eye of many of the actresses mentioned here - mind you she can't act.

  49. NO NO NO NO NO...angelina jolie will ruin marilyn monroe. she will make her into an anorexic praying mantis.

marilyn monroe had an innocence about her which combined with her curvy body made her incredibly sexy. monroe strikes me as the kind of woman that had no idea how sexy she was...she just oozed sex appeal. jolie on the other hand, she has a different type of sex appeal. more dangerous and rough around the edges...very dark. something i do not find appealing.

i agree with the poster that said women love marilyn monroe. she was very likable. i adore her. she had such innocence and brilliant comedic timing. she was also smart and well-read, though she didn't get to show it much. jolie is no girl's girl. she strikes me as the type of woman that has no girlfriends - you know the type.

i have a girlfriend from hs that reminds of me monroe. not b/c they look alike, but she just oozes sex appeal. she is not even that incredibly beautiful, but something about her is just...sexy. and she has NO idea! it drives men wild!

    ReplyDelete
  50. LOL @ "anorexic praying mantis" - Holyrollernova

I call her the Black Widow, which she'd probably be ok with.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Who will play the dog? I say Brad Pitt.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree...Scarlett Johansen would be perfect for the role, the only curvy actress left almost! And for Frank, I would love to see Harry Connick or Robert Downey Jr in that role. I think either one could do it justice

    ReplyDelete
  53. Lohan, who I'm guessing would do just about anything for that part.

Yes, like the director, the producers, or a considerable amount of crank.

    ReplyDelete
  54. it's an insult that they'd even consider jolie for this role. she's nothing like marilyn!!?

if they were serious about this role, they'd find a pretty little noname actress that we've never seen before. that's the only way to pull this off.

george as sinatra?? ehh, i guess he could fit since he does have an "old hollywood" vibe to it. if it's just based on looks, joshua jackson is a far better choice.

    ReplyDelete
  55. holyrollernova is 100% correct in their assessment of Marilyn and her screen persona. She did ooze sex appeal in her films, but was frequently oblivious to the effect she had on the men in them.
@paisley and Mooshki: Not to be a pedant, but...that story about Monroe and Sinatra was posted in response to a Blind Item on 2/26/10by "himmmm." He has some pretty interseting things to say.

    ReplyDelete
  56. um...wasn't Marilyn curvy? No way Jolie can fatten up enough to be considered curvy. Just no.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So then would Angie even do it if she doesn't like Clooney?

    ReplyDelete
  58. @Mango - you absolutely read my mind :)
