Carrie Underwood Thinks She Is A Huge Star
You know, Carrie Underwood is a good singer. I think even without American Idol she would have had success. She probably would have had to work a little harder than she has. Maybe the sudden fame has gone to her head or something, but she is acting like she gets swarmed by paps everyday and does not have a moment's peace.
Think back to when you saw paps staking out her house or following her down the street. With the exception of when she shows up at a hockey game, most pictures taken of her are at events. People just don't think she is all that exciting. She is blah. Her soon to be husband, Mike Fisher, is a decent hockey player and I'm sure in Ottawa he is beloved, but most people here have no clue who he is.
So, with all of that it has been a shock to read about how she hired out the entire hotel where she is getting married so there would not be paps. How she is being flown to the hotel in a helicopter. How all the guests will need to wait at the airport and will be told where to go when they have all gathered. Hey guests. Here is a hint. She is getting married at The Ritz Carlton Lodge in Greensboro Georgia. No need to sit around the airport.
She acts like this is Sean Penn and Madonna. No one cares. Yes, someone will give you a courtesy check for your wedding photos, but, no one is refreshing your website looking for every wedding detail. This is a Kneepads wedding and I am sure it will be lovely, but I think Carrie has a much higher opinion of her popularity than everyone else.
Wow, bitter much?
ReplyDeleteThis chick needs a reality check, but alas such is the nature of celebrity in this day and age. Used to be a time when you had to WORK to be a star, now everyone is a self entitled overnight sensation,
ReplyDeleteBleh
I wouldn't know who she was if it weren't for gossip blogs.
ReplyDeleteWasn't she the major guess in a BI about someone who's basically functionally illiterate?!
ReplyDeleteIs that Tony Romo in the pic? Didn't they break up a long time ago? That must be an old picture. She's no big deal in my life. I couldn't name one song of hers.
ReplyDeleteI tend to give her a pass on this. There will probably be a hundred paps there and she just doesn't want the hassle. The real question is whether a hundred paps is a commentary on her fame or the existence of tens of thousands of celebrity gossip sites waiting for their photos.
ReplyDeleteAnd, Enty, she is a pretty big star. Three platinum albums; a gaggle of Grammy awards (not to mention the CMA and AMA hardware); and headlining concerts. Yup, I think she qualifies as A list big star.

ReplyDeleteYeah Carrie is a big star, she has the money, and its her wedding day. She can do as she pleases. Would you want any uninvited guests showing up at your wedding?

ReplyDeleteYou know, Enty, many, many brides lose their damn minds planing a wedding. So if she wants to spend her moola on renting outt he hotel and flying in a copter, let her.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think arriving in a copter would be pretty cool. In full bridal attire, of course.
Isn't she pretty much universally recognized as a delusional beeyotch, (or is it just by the folks that read CDAN)?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking she thinks she's in the Brangelina category. She might have hit records but I doubt she has that kind of pull.
Personally, I don't care for country music and wouldn't recognize either her voice or one of her songs if I heard it.
It's her wedding! For this event, insanity is encouraged
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't bother me at all. It's her dang wedding. She can do whatever she wants. And, I concur that she is a very big music star, for sure. In this age of one-hit wonders, she's been around for a fair amount of time. Paps probably would bug the shit out of her, and a bride has enough things to worry about that day.
ReplyDeleteWhat mngddess said :)

ReplyDeleteshe really truly is an asshole.
ReplyDeletebuuuuuuut...it's her wedding. go crazy. have at it.
I bet she has something really fun for those gathering at the airport. She is probably arranging shuttle service for them with complimentary beverage service included. I would actually love to gather at the airport and wait for instructions on how to get to probably the best wedding I could ever imagine being invited to!
ReplyDeleteHer songs are pretty good, but I don't think she's hounded my the paps. Sounds like she would LOVE to be, though. I have a friend in Charleston, SC, who is a very high-end event/wedding planner, and this sounds like a lot of the same "I am so important" stuff she gets from her clients. However, she gets paid a small fortune to reinforce their egos so she doesn't mind. As long as Carrie pays the bill for her wedding extravaganza, who cares?
ReplyDeleteI was going to write a post saying that her behavior in this regard doesn't bother me, and then I noticed that everyone else had beaten me to it. So I'll just throw my vote with the "What the heck, it ain't that bad" crowd.
ReplyDeleteYou know, most wealthy people who can afford to do this would do the same thing. If I could afford it, I would probably do it. It's not like she's asking for special treatment -- I'm sure they're making her pay through the teeth. Luckily, she's got big horse teeth.
i don't get the hatred and contempt for carrie underwood on this site---and yes, enty, by YOU. i'm not even a country fan, but she's about as hot as it gets in country music right now.
ReplyDeleteshe can do whatever she wants. i think the nasty comments when other people have done the same or worse is just weird. i don't get it at all.
I'm not a Carrie Underwood fan, but in her defense, yes she is a huge star. She's got a handful of Grammys and numerous other accolades under her belt, multi-platinum albums, sold-out concerts, endorsements... like her or not, she is pretty famous and recognizable.
ReplyDeleteStar or not, why so much hate toward her? Honestly I'm curious as I've never heard anything terrible about her. Am I missing something?
Besides, it's her wedding and she can do whatever the hell she wants.
I am not a country fan but I love CU's music. I bet she has more fans than Ashley Simpson and they were all over that wedding
ReplyDeletei like her, i like her music that i'e heard, she's pretty. she seems fairly normal. idk, i don't really get the hate for her.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't be surprised if she is a huge bitch, but she's a talented and wealthy bitch and i don't think she's just getting away with it for nothing. i'm sure she's paying very well for her private wedding. can't say i'd ever do the same thing, but i can't say i wouldn't either.
it would be kind of fun if she had party busses with stripper poles to pick her guests up at the airport tho. you know, for going through the trouble lol
There are a lot of crazy, evil people in this world.
ReplyDeleteCarrie gets a free pass from me on this one.
Isn't she the one that's banging Eddie somebody? Oh wait that's LeAnne. Isn't she the one that keeps getting arrested for drugs, oh wait that's Mindy. Wasn't she the one that......, oh wait that was Jewels. Sorry Carrie, can't place ya.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to side with Enty with this one.
ReplyDeleteUnderwood is not as important as she believes she is... yet her PR team "leak" the info about the hotel. No one would know that she was getting married in Georgia till they planted the item. Just trying to drum up interest in her.
Sadly, this is a product of a great PR team. Who constantly tells you how famous and great she is... when really she has not had a really big huge hit album. Just radio singles here and there.
Having had the exposure from Idol may have made her a household name. But that does not translate into anything else.
But that PR team has you believing different, now don't they.
I can't figure out why this venue. It's at least a 2-hour ride from the Atlanta airport, and, although swanky things have sprung up as part of the general Lake Oconee community, it's basically in the middle of nowhere and not what I would think a star would choose for a wedding, but that's just me. BTW Ben Roethlisberger has a home there as do any number of celebs.
ReplyDeleteHey, if I had the money, I'd buy out an entire resort for my wedding weekend too! Why not, if you can. And no, she may not be a prime pap target, but weddings are usually big news, and why take the risk of it being interfered with by even one reporter? Plus, she signed the deal with People, so she had to make sure no pics leaked.
ReplyDeleteI don't think her PR team leaked the hotel -- that's just a super small town and even with confidentiality agreements, things get out. If anything, the Ottawa newspaper was ALL OVER this thing and had more details than any other outlet for a while.
As for why Greensboro, I think because it's got a reputation for keeping quiet - as a few others noted, there are many other celebs that hide out in the region. Also, it's pretty self-contained and probably easier to secure than other venues. And maybe she just thought it was different and pretty. :) I like that they didn't do it in the LA area...too predictible.
And HautieTX, actually all of her albums have been huge smash successes, especially the first one. Whether any of us like it or not, by the numbers, she is a megastar within the music world.
I also doubt she's the "functional illiterate" since she does have a college degree. Although, now that I think about it, that doesn't guarantee anything these days. I've always wondered about the rumors that were around when she was dating Romo..the ones saying she was a raging bitch when she drank, for example. I can see her being naturally bitchy (takes one to know one) but those stories always surprised me.
Anyway, wishing her and her Mike much happiness and luck in their marriage. I hope they can make it last.
i live in atlanta and have been to the reynolds plantation many times in the past. she probably has everyone gathering at the airport because unless you are familiar with the area - it is not real convenient to find. it is a 2 hour drive from atlanta and once you get off of 1-20, you drive through the backroads of rural georgia. not exactly something you want a ton of guests who have never been there to do all on their own. seems kind of smart (and very thoughtful!) that she would gather them all together in one place and shuttle them as a group to the destination. noone has to worry about getting lost or renting cars to drive there.
ReplyDeleteand the reynolds plantation is GORGEOUS! a great location for a nice, romantic, quiet wedding. although... i grew up in rural georgia so that quiet setting is pretty appealing to me.
