Ted Koppel's Son Goes On Drinking Bender - Dies
Ted Koppel's second youngest son, Andrew was found dead in a New York City apartment early this morning. Andrew Koppel and a guy he had met 12 hours earlier spent most of the day drinking. Andrew, who has a girlfriend and a young child consumed straight whiskey nonstop for almost the entire day.
"He had a straw hat on, and I had one on, and he said, 'Nice hat, man.'" We got to talking, and he started buying me drinks."
Koppel drank straight whiskey and suggested they move from bar to bar, Wimberly said.
As they walked, Koppel sipped from a pint bottle of Jameson, Wimberly said.
"There was a lot of alcohol. He didn't take anything else [drugs] around me, and neither of us ate all day," he said. "We talked about our kids . . . He said he had a kid and loved [her] a lot."
When they got back to the drinking buddy's house. Andrew Koppel lay down to sleep. He never woke up. This is so incredibly tragic. According to the NY Post, Andrew has a long, long history of alcohol abuse.
Uh, 40 is way too old for that crap. I feel sorry for his family.
ReplyDeleteThat is sooooooooo sad in so many ways. Even 20 year olds can't survive that.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for his girlfriend, daughter and the rest of his family. He used to work at the same place I did (although I didn't know him - the place was huge).
ReplyDeleteIt's so tragic - I wonder if he was having other health problems...
Horrible. There is so much alcoholism in both sides of mine and my husband's families. There but for the grace of God ...
ReplyDeleteeeep...that's a seriously rough-looking 40...poor family and baby left behind. damn shame.
ReplyDeleteThat's horrible! So sad...RIP to him...I really feel for his family.
ReplyDeletesometimes i think people forget just how dangerous alcohol is when you drink to much. it seems maybe he should have known better at his age, but sometimes people with a problem can't stop when they start even when they know they should. sad :(
ReplyDeleteThe first story I read about this sounded strange. It said that "his* friends found him lying in bed (his drinking buddy's bed that he met 12 hours earlier??) and that he had urinated and defecated himself. How would his friends have found him there? Maybe I'm reading too much into this. Sad either way :(
ReplyDeleteThat is so sad. Lord knows there have been plenty of times that I have consumed a phenomenal amount of alcohol in a day and then laid down to sleep. You just never know.
ReplyDeleteVery sad. Massive alcohol + no food + already compromised liver = dead too often.
ReplyDeleteYikes, poor Ted.
