I can think of no reason why Shia LaBeouf was not arrested and taken to jail other than the fact the police officer taking the report might have thought Shia could hook him up with Megan Fox or something. If the situation was reversed the other person would have been in jail in a flash.
Here is what happened. An X17 video photographer was outside Shia's house. Shia then walked down to the photographer's car and took out a $3000 camera lens and some other equipment and went back inside his house. He then called the police to complain about the photographer. The police arrived and went inside Shia's house. They made him give back the camera equipment but nothing else happened to him.
The reason the police did not arrest Shia? The LAPD says, "We handle each incident on a case by case basis." Umm, so if we walk up to Shia's house and start taking stuff out then it is fine or does this only apply to taking stuff out of his car? If any of us pulled the same stunt we would have been arrested. The charges might have been dropped later, but we would go to jail. Apparently Shia has a get out of jail free card.
WHAT a celebrity getting preferential treatment? i'm shocked and appalled.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't want the paps outside your house, buy or rent a home in a gated community. Or better yet, LA has nice high-rise condos.
ReplyDeleteI hope he made his mom put some clothes on before the cops came in the house lol
ReplyDeleteWhy do people love this guy? He is clearly a grade A douchebag. It makes me lose respect for Carey Mulligan that she's with him.
ReplyDeleteI was never that impressed with him to begin with, but the drunken n-word incident turned me off on him completely. He's a male Megan Fox, about to hit his expiration date.
ReplyDeleteyou can't say "if it were us.." because it's NOT us. It would make no sense why we'd steal shit from a photographer that wasn't following us around on a daily.totally different circumstance.
ReplyDeletePaps will do ANYTHING to get a shot and we don't even blink,Shia was willing to do ANYTHING not to get the shot.do we honestly believe he wasn't going to give the shit back? he took the telephoto lens so the asshole couldnt get a shot INSIDE his house.
have never seen the appeal to this douche...is he a good actor or something, b/c i don't get it?
ReplyDeleteteehee @ montana!

ReplyDeleteSorry, but no sympathy here for the paps. I think they do really really nasty dirty things to get a reaction, even children aren't off limits. Sometimes you get what you give.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for the paps, but Shia stole from another person. Or rather took something from someone without their permission. It's not right what paps do, but there are other, smarter options OPTIONS to these vultures.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a problem with it. They asked him to give back the stuff and he did. Quick and easy.
ReplyDeleteI don't like him, but hey, he didn't destroy the camera, so good for him for not getting violent. If he were at a restaurant or something, I'd say it was bad, but it's his home for god's sake. The law hasn't evolved quickly enough to keep up with the pap's tactics. Was it right? No. Did he deserve to get arrested for it? No.
ReplyDeleteI've always thought it would be interesting if District Attorneys and municipal judges could job share. Let's have a couple of judges & the DA/ADA from, say, Detroit, switch places with judges & DA from Los Angeles. Have this Shia douche, Lindsay, a Kardashian or two, Charlie Sheen, go before the Detroit judge & attorneys. I'd be interested to see how that would play out.
ReplyDelete"Shia Leboof! Shia Leboof!"
ReplyDeleteI think Shia LeBOOF should stop doing stuff and just look pretty in pictures. That's how you get people to respectchoo!
I'm with jax. I don't for a minute believe Shia meant to keep the pap's stuff, he wanted the cops to come, shoo the paps away and then he'd give it back. I think the LAPD knew that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jax and RocketQueen. I, for one, might have felt compelled to do the same thing. I don't consider it stealing. He took it so that he wouldn't be bothered and, obviously planned to give it back since he contacted the police.
ReplyDeleteI agree, this is not that big of a deal. He obviously wasn't going to keep it...he called the police himself and gave back the equipment. It is not like he was caught swiping a leather jacket from some boutique.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was a douchy move, he could have gone all Sean penn with him and break the camera or kick the paparazzo in the face.
ReplyDeleteHarriet, you don't really think he is pretty? I think he is homely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a Asshole. He knew if he was to become a Celeb that he would be hounded by the Paps. Thats the downfall if you decide to make 10 million or more a year. No,he should have not taken the stuff out of the guys car, even if it prevented them getting a pic of inside his house. Guess what? Thats what curtains are for.
ReplyDeletesorrybut i'm with Shia team because he may harrass by paps every day and Laboeuf doesn't seem a mediawhore.
ReplyDeleteum, becki, no. today's equipment (fuck that. ANY equipment if you have a light or tv or computer on) will get pix right through curtains or blinds. don't you look at the pictures on this blog?
ReplyDeletei would like to think i would have done the same thing.
for all we know, he may even have hollered at the guy to cut it out and gotten back a "public street, man!" in response.
maybe he's a jerk, but a TRUE jerk would have punched the pap, or ruined the camera.
geez, he's supposed to move to his own private island?
Kym worthy the DA fro
ReplyDeleteDetroit stood up to Kwame Kilpatrick the mayor who is now sitting in a fine cell manistee mi. He though he was above the law. Could work
I like Shia (ok I have a crush on him) and I would have probably done the same thing as he did - heck I would have probably punched the pap and smashed the camera. I have no qualms saying that he took it to hold the pap there until the police arrived. Being photographed when you are out and about as a celebrity is one thing, but to be subjected to it all the time in your home?
ReplyDeleteHe's a douche. Yeah, some paparazzi suck, some of them do horrible and dangerous things. But Shia's house is gated apparently. And the paparazzo was on the street. Plus aren't the rules about shooting into a celeb's private property more strict now? All of it together makes it sound like Shia's behavior was unprovoked.
ReplyDeleteIf he wants someone to keep the paparazzi away, he should use his own money to pay for a security guard or something, not waste the time of policemen, time which is paid for by the public, who have bigger problems.
This plus all the other dumb things he's done makes him one of my least favorite celebs.
I'm a fan and will see anything he's in but even if it were someone I despise I still wouldn't have a problem with it. He didn't break it or abuse the guy in any way. He just had had enough for one day get your shots and move on.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rachel. Plenty of stars live in my neighb, and I have not seen any of their homes pictured, unless it is through bird's eye (online maps). There are plenty of alternatives, if he is so peeved and fed up. The pap was on a public street.
ReplyDeleteLOL I just find the story hilarious. Anytime the stars get the papi, I want to cheer. I don't like prima donna behavior amusing...but I find the practices of the pap less so. Pretty much anytime its pap vs celeb, going to side with the celeb.
ReplyDeleteFor me its not a "fame" thing its a "what if someone was outside my house and took pictures" thing. Once put myself in those shoes, I recognize my reactions and behavior would actually probably be much more extreme and violent (I see baseball bats getting involved for instance).
"today's equipment (fuck that. ANY equipment if you have a light or tv or computer on) will get pix right through curtains or blinds. don't you look at the pictures on this blog?"
ReplyDeletei haven't seen any pics on this blog, in that it appears to be taken THROUGH blinds. it's hard for lens to penetrate through BLINDS. shabby curtains maybe. so i'm not sure what you're talking about.
I believe that Entertainment Lawyer is trying to say that if a regular, dumb ass Joe, did this, he would be arrested. Hypothetically speaking.
ReplyDeleteI'm on Shia's side on this one. More accurately, he 'confiscated' the camera, and it appears as he had no intention of keeping it permanently.

i have those honeycomb blinds in some of my rooms.
believe me, i had neighbors that thought they were being "funny" and pulled all kinds of "jokes" because they could see what we were doing from their deck up on the hill. shining flashlights and lazer pointer thingees are annoying as hell, strobe flashes, too. i was responding to the curtain part of that-- drive down the street and look around, you'll see more of your neighbors than you want, but the point is, WHY should someone have to live behind closed curtains/blinds all the time?
plus, i finally got to watch the vid, how long was the pap out there taunting him? shia was pissed. the pap made no move to stop him.
hope i cleared that up. plus, i'm getting really annoyed at the constant use of the word "douche". especially when in this instance, he was just trying to protect his privacy. so maybe i snapped a little.
you know, i've lived in and around the L.A. area all but four years of my life. DH works in the industry. i've seen celebs all my life, and i just don't approach, because, hey, they're living their life. i don't care what kind of human being they may or may not be, i'm going to respect their privacy, and i don't think someone needs to be treated the way some of the paps treat them. there's more to this event than we saw. and i kinda like him, too, even tho i won't watch transformers (had enough of the cartoon, thank you).
and @ rachel, no offense, really, but i giggled a little bit at what you said-- you're right, the police ARE public servants, but isn't shia the public? :)
Don't want to say anything about it.
