I am a big Anita Baker fan. I have loved her forever, but last night she absolutely butchered the National Anthem. I don't know if she did not warm up or can't sing anymore or had just watched the best of William Hung or taken advice from Roseanne Barr, but it definitely makes you cringe to listen.
She did not warm up. It's mediocre.
ReplyDeleteit's not that bad. it's a hard song.
ReplyDeleteHer voice has always been nails-on-a-chalkboard to me. Sweet Love makes me want to murder somebody.
ReplyDeleteI've heard worse, for sure. I've also heard better...*L*

Oh damnnnn Anita, u r threading on Whitney territory lol
ReplyDelete@Syd - LOL
ReplyDeleteBless her heart. I think Denise Richards & Roseanne tie for worst Star Spangled Banner.
I think that you are thinking of Denise and Roseanne singing "take me out to the ballgame" which should, I think, be our National Anthem. :) But they were really really bad
ReplyDeleteLET'S GET SOME RUNS!!! ;)
@chihuahuense - OMG you are totally right! I'm an idiot. I just remembered them/baseball/singing and posted before thinking. :)
ReplyDeleteThe only way I can see "Take me out..." is if I am really drunk. Otherwise, I think it is a hard song, too, though. Maybe because in the beginning it seems like you should be "talking" it, not singing, but then in the end, you kinda have to sing it. lol, am I over-analyzing it?
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to pipe in here in defense of Anita. I'm a professional singer and voice teacher, and I can tell it's not her singing that is the problem- it's the terrible sound quality of whatever the person recorded that video onto. It's so warbled and distorted, I can't even hear the true sound of Anita's voice. All of her notes were totally on, and she didn't go off key at all. Find a better video and it should sound 1000 times better.
ReplyDeletei'm with here. it wasn't THAT bad. couple of garbled words, maybe, but her sound system sucked!
