Amanda Bynes Can't Get The Job She Wants - Decides To Retire

At the age of 24, Amanda Bynes has decided to retire from acting. Unable to differentiate herself from the thousands of people that look exactly like her now, Amanda took to her Twitter account over the weekend and announced her retirement.

# I know 24 is a young age to retire but you heard it here first I've #retired 3:50 AM Jun 19th via web

# I don't love acting anymore so I've stopped doing it 3:48 AM Jun 19th via web

# If I don't love something anymore I stop doing it 3:47 AM Jun 19th via web

# Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem 2:59 AM Jun 19th via web

At first I thought it was a joke or she had been hacked because there were some unusual remarks in there, but then she also wished her dad and brother Happy Father's Day yesterday so I assume it is legit.

I don't know how exactly one retires from the world of acting or why you need to announce it. I mean just don't work if you want to retire. It isn't like someone is going to give you a gold watch. Does she have enough money to live forever? Probably. If this is really something from her, and she is tired of auditioning or not getting roles she really likes, then by all means retire. Move on to something you find rewarding. I just don't think she is going to sit around all day doing nothing, but at least with the money she has, she can choose to spend time finding what it is she does like and maybe later she will come back and act and make that sequel to What A Girl Wants.

  2. if she hasn't done so, she could always go to college, get an education and get a real job doing something she enjoys.
she could turn the money she's made into real wealth over time and live like us 'regular people' in the meantime.
    anything wrong with that?

Probably she thinks this will give her some publicity for a movie she wants.

  6. Amanda's problem is that she was once a teen star -- and that time is gone. She could actually try working the stand-up circuit, develop some comedic chops and burst back into the public spotlight with some well-honed talent. Or do like Danica McKellar, go to college, learn math, write a book teaching girls about math.

Given her attention whore antics these days, she's as retired as Jay-Z was three years ago.

  7. She has enough money to retire?!?! Do tell!!

  8. Many people have left acting and pursued another career. I doubt she has enough money to straight up live the rest of her life doing absolutely nothing.

  9. Pretty sure she was coked up and writing this crap. Look at the times of the posts as well. Lohan does the same but she deletes it.

  10. I loved her in All That and the show she had of her own when she was younger. I was a full-grown adult with no kids at the time but I just like that clean kind of humor and it cam eon after cartoons so I kept watching. Mainly the usual one-liners and sight gags, but it was good, clean fun.

If she goes away and has a clean, productive life out of the spotlight, I say major props to her!

I really hope I never here about Amanda going the route LiLo went (and continues to go).

  11. I think she does fine with cutesy sitcom roles. She could have easily been Penny on BBT and maybe grow into a shitty chick flick actress down the line. Stop snorting the bad shit & shrinking your clothing and just apply yourself Amanda.

  12. i'm not gonna hate on her...she's a cutie and does the teeny bopper thing well...if this is where she's at in life, then so be it. good for her. if it's a publicity ploy it'll come back to bite her in the ass and she'll learn reeeeeeal quick. either way, luck to her.

  13. Well, she did get 2.5 million for her last movie -- was it Hairspray or Sydney White?

Plus, add the money she got paid for all her other teen and TV movies (assuming she made more than scale plus 10, which is more than likely), plus what she made from her...what...2 or 3 series on Nick, plus that show on the WB/CW...plus residuals...

Yep. If her parents managed her money well during the early years, the girl can afford to retire.

  14. if she focused as much energy on being a good comedic actress as she does on looking like every other wannabe pin up in la, i doubt very seriously we'd be talking about this right now.

she was always a cute actress and had great timing in all her work. she could have a great career, she chooses not to fine tune herself in that way. so obviously acting isn't her passion. she'll move on to playboy in a couple months and that'll be that.

  17. bloodonthescreen took the words out of my mouth. Up late at night, drunk/coked out, looking for attention from fans a la Lindsay.
$10 says she does NOT retire.

  20. I always liked her. She's cute. I agree with Nancer, hopefully she will go get a degree of some sort...she could always come back to acting if her 2nd career doesn't pan out.

  21. I love that her tweet just before her retirment announcement was:

"I like black men I'm very attracted to them just fyi"

I think she was just drunk tweeting that night.

  22. Online life-declarations made by 24-year-olds at 3 o'clock in the morning should be taken with a grain of salt.

  23. I would have a lot more respect for her if she said she is giving up acting for 4 years to go to College.

Seems like sour grapes for being pushed aside in Hollywood and can only muster one low budget family movie a year.

  24. Hmm, just read the tweets on DListed and they all took place between around 6:45 and about 7:30 - so I guess the time stamp depends on where the reader is that is looking at it?
