Will Work For Food Does Not Mean They Will Kill

Former Food Network chef, Juan Carlos Cruz, has learned that when you see homeless people holding signs saying will work for food, that work does not mean they are willing to kill someone. On Thursday, Juan was arrested and charged with solicitation of murder and is being held on $5M bail.

At least two homeless people came forward to police about a week ago saying that Juan had attempted to hire them to kill someone. It kind of sounds like Fletch. But, it wasn't, and police spent a week going undercover and finally had enough to arrest Juan last week. Juan formerly hosted the Food Network show Calorie Commando. I don't think I remember that show. It was on for a couple of seasons and involved him making low calorie versions of comfort food.

Well, it sounds like if the allegations are proved to be true that he will get to spend a lot of time in jail doing it for real.

  3. I watched somthing on Dateline about people who try to hire someone to kill their spouse/coworker/enemy. I'm pretty sure that 99% of people looking for a hired gun get completely busted. And the police don't mess around, you go to jail for a long time.

  4. OMG i remember this show. I liked the low calorie versions of comfort food.

TMZ reported the reason he wanted to bump her off was becuase his wife had come into a big inheritence and wanted to get his hands on it. The police though are saying they didn't any proof of that.

Sounds like he was looking for an insurance scam if she was murdered.

    People are scary.

  5. I can imagine few things in life that would be more horrifying and emotionally crushing than finding out your spouse tried to have you killed. Poor woman.

I am appalled at anyone having the idea that you can even have low calorie versions of comfort food. One of the great things about comfort food is that it's full of calories, fat, carbs, sodium, everything that's bad for you.

He should have known better. Amateurs who try to hire hit men almost always get busted. Let's see how all that low-cal stuff goes over with Big Ed in the slammer.

  7. Never ever liked his show (I guess others never did either, that's why it was dropped). I read someplace that the first guy got caught for loitering, then spilled his guts and so did his cronies.

  9. The reason for Juan wanting his wife dead is very sad. She's a very religious Catholic who can't have children and has been suffering from depression. She certainly wouldn't want a divorce and mostly likely would fight it making her even more depressed, so this sick excuse for a man decided that killing her would be easier. For him. That way he wouldn't be the bad guy but garner pity for being the widower of a murdered wife, being free of her and her problems on the cheap.

@zandra - I'm just sure she'd rather be dead than divorced. What gets in their minds? I mean, seriously, he has to be insane.

  11. He should have put that one on the back burner and let it simmer awhile. Maybe cooked up something else. I hope he loves sausage, he will probably be having it quite a bit where he's going.

    Seriously though, what a dumbass
