The end of an era. The series that started it all is ending. After what seems like forever, but was 20 years, the original Law & Order has been canceled by NBC. Oh sure, there will still be the spin offs. In fact, there will be a new one for next season. Law & Order begat the CSI and NCIS and all the other alphabet crime shows and the idea that you could interchange actors and cities. Still, to me, this was the one that I consistently watched. It was the one I could turn on everyday and know I was in for a good hour of television. I watched every episode that first year and I have not missed many since. Goodbye old friend.
Worst news ever. I can't get through a week without my L&O fix. Only the original will do.
ReplyDeleteI liked the series when Benjamin Bratt or Jesse Martin were featured the best. L&O has jumped the shark, along with SVU.
ReplyDeleteThat sucks, you know how many entertainment folks will be out of work here in NYC because of this?
ReplyDeleteThe best ones were the first ones with D.A. Ben Stone.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cast was
ReplyDeleteWaterston
Hennessey
Orbach
Noth
I may have spelled the first two names wrong though.
Dang. The original is the only one I liked and I thought this new group was really good. Drat.
ReplyDeleteDamn! It sucked for a while, but I thought it got its magic back last season. I will miss it!
ReplyDeleteI love L&O. I'm so bummed. I loved when Orbach was on it, but I also loved when Paul Sorvino was on there. Loved him!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite show...
ReplyDeleteYes, Orbach and Sorvino were my favorites too!
ReplyDeleteI quit watching after Jerry Orbach died.
ReplyDeleteWhen will the phrase "jump the shark" jump the shark? I absolutely hate it for some reason. Anyway...
ReplyDeleteThat 5th picture "A perp's worst nightmare" is great.
I'll also miss this show. Give me a CSI episode or a Law & Order and I'll take Law & Order every time. Glad a Los Angeles version is starting, but I'll miss the gritty NY streets.
Watched the show in the early years. Then one of the "ripped from the headlines" storylines was from a local murder and I was extremely offended at the way it was portrayed on L&O, especially since the trial hadn't taken place yet. Haven't watched again, but will probably see the newer repeats once I end up in a retirement community. I'm sure the repeats will still be airing in 30 years.
ReplyDeleteAnd another good show bites the dust. What are we going to do with our television time slot now? Oh I know, we'll replace it many more episodes of reality tv.
ReplyDeleteOh Goody! I can't wait!
NOT!
I think this is the Universe's way of forcing us to get rid of the boob tube and go exercise, read a book, socialize etc.
LURV Orbach, Waterson, Martin, Meloni and Bratt!! My favorites!
ReplyDeleteOrbach as Lenny had the best one liners ever!! loved him!!
ReplyDeleteWow this really really sucks..
ReplyDeleteMy vote is Noth and Orbach. Loved Captain Cragen and Lt Van Buren.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard the news about L&O I was shocked. I love all the L&O shows and spin-offs. I believe the one that is being shown on Monday is a 2 hr special.
ReplyDeleteI was bummed by this too, but still happy that my SVU will still be on!
ReplyDeleteStill, L&O was never the same without Orbach IMO.
my fav TV show forever (with "OZ") because it's only about stories(never love stories or family stories about characters)
ReplyDeletethis sucks
ReplyDeleteCHUNG! CHUNG!
ReplyDelete(The Law and Order sound)
I don't think I've missed a show since it began and my favorite was New York's finest Det. Lenny Brisco. Last night my husband and I were debating who were the best partners..it was Lenny and Ray, for him and Lenny and anyone..for me. I loved this show at least I've got the reruns to last me until retirement..then I'll start CI and SVU even if I can't stand the over the top emotional angst and the glaring legal errors.
ReplyDeleteThis is such heartbreaking news for crews and actors in New York. I don't think there is a single working New York actor who doesn't have at least one episode of L&O on their resume.
ReplyDeleteThat show poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the NYC economy over the years.
New York needs a new series franchise!
I'm officially over TV.
ReplyDeleteI love this show. I love the mix of characters with their thinly-veneered personal lives always there. I even like this season - I thought they got the mix finally right after Jerry Orbach's death.
This is one of two shows that when it's not on my TiVo, I go hunting for wtf happened.
Gimme my extended DVDs at least. Jeezis. What is NBC thinking? Yeah ratings are down, but they got worse. And it's still a well-written show with some very interesting characters.
Sigh. This is why I really stopped watching "live" TV. I just TiVo the little I care about.
Guess it just got one hour shorter.
Enty, THANK YOU for posting this. I even emailed you earlier today sending you a link about this. I was hoping to see some sort of tribute from you. I have the first few seasons on dvd and have watched every single episode. Embarrassed to admit, but this show has inspired me on so many personal levels. This news hit me kind of hard and I am still sad that my favorite show is ending in 10 days.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone that Lenny was the best. Jerry Orbach really made that show for me with his one-liners...I cried when he died and also quit watching for a while. I will always watch the reruns and am so sad that it's over.
ReplyDeleteLennie Briscoe and Ed Green FOR SURE!!!
ReplyDelete(I was getting a man ready for surgery one day, and I kept smiling and looking at him, and he was smiling *knowingly*. I said, "do you know who you look like?" He said "Lenny, get it all the time." It was like Jerry Orbach was standing right in front of me, the man was his freakin twin!
I LOVE Sam Waterson. The best line-up was: Waterson, Hennessy, Orbach, Bratt, Van Buren, and Hill. The current season kind of sucks. There has not been a decent ADA since the cokehead from Texas (forgot her name)and I still miss Chris Noth.
