It's Thursday - Must Be Time For GOOP

According to my memory, which I admit is faulty, these are the phrases I have heard from Gwyneth Paltrow aka The Gooper or Goopster over the course of the year.

"I needed to lose my winter weight."
"We all need help losing those Christmas pounds."
"We all need help losing those Thanksgiving pounds."
"I gained so much weight when shooting in Tennessee." (Oh, hang on for a second. This is a woman who gave us two newsletters filled with thoughts about Nashville but she hasn't said jack squat in any interview or in her newsletter about the flooding there and how some of the places she visited might not be there anymore.)

"I hate to exercise."
"I hate to watch what I eat."
"I don't diet."
"I don't diet."
"I like Scarlett Johansson. We got along fine" Uh huh.

The recurrent theme in all of these is that every week she is trying to shed some pounds that she feel she has gained. I want you to honestly think about how many times she has pushed diets or cleanses or exercising. That is her whole life. The woman has serious self esteem issues.

This week in GOOP she does it again. She talks about losing her winter weight and a five day diet from Tracy Anderson.

The good news is that I know lots of you actually like Tracy's workouts and The Gooper has given you a four minute video for free. If you want the whole 26 minutes free you have to give Tracy your e-mail and register. Here is the link to GOOP.

  1. Well put.

She's in a rare position with her fame and wealth to actually do some REAL good, and yet she doesn't. All she can do is talk about shallow, meaningless crap that at the end of the day doesn't mean anything. She's beyond obnoxious. I wish she would just go away.

  2. People always call Gwynnie a privileged snob, but when I look at her, all I see is a privileged depressed person.

  3. oh Enty, give it a rest. I love her newsletters and her blog. Stop all the hate for Gwyneth.

  4. I don't like seeing her mug on my can of Diet Dr. Pepper.

    that is all.

  5. I am honestly sick of her and feel she is a disgusting "role model." I grew up with a mom who had body/weight issues & managed to pass them on to me at a VERY early age, especially since I had the exact same body shape; I was just taller. My mom was normal, never overweight, but she was/is obsessed and constantly berates herself. I was 24 years old before I was able to mentally & emotionally separate myself from most of what she says, though 10 years later it's still hard at times.

To the Goop: If you have body or self esteem issues, I'm sorry. But I beg you to stop spreading your insecurities as "helpful tips" across the world to girls/women who actually think what you're saying has merit & end up sacrificing their health to try and mimic your skewed standards of beauty and happiness. The world does not need any more of your kind.

  6. libby called it.

And Carrie's right, too - I'm tired of her newsletters being focused around self-improvement of WHATEVER type.
As a vegetarian, I found this week's particularly obnoxious: she provides veggie alternatives for the breakfast portion, but not the dinner portion.
Thanks, but no thanks, Goopy. I don't have a pressing premiere date to which I want to wear shorts anyway.

  7. What in the hell is she wearing. She looks like a giant baby. Think she has diapers to go with this ensemble?

  8. BAHAHAHA sunnyside!

  9. I bet she needs diapers with all the damn cleansing she's got going on.

  10. UNDERSTAND..THERE IS GOOPIE, AND THEN THERE'S THE REST OF US....WE THE COMMON PEOPLE....
THE WOMAN IS OBSESSED WITH HERSELF...WONDER WHY CHRIS CHEATS..I DON'T.
HOWEVER I DO WISH THEY'D STAY TOGETHER FOREVER....JUST MAKING EACH OTHER MISERABLE.

  11. Shazz..That's what I don't understand. Why are they together? It makes her look like a pathetic doormat and he always looks miserable and constipated.

  12. i worry about the fascination you have w/ this loser, enty, and the precious amt of blog real estate you allot for her.

  13. Pookie, maybe he is trying her cleanses?

  14. her very last newsletter should contain advice on how to cleanse our lives from her. circle of life.

  15. CHERYL, SHE SAYS SHE DOESN'T BELIEVE IN DIVORCE THAT A COUPLE SHOULD FIGHT TO MAKE IT WORK...PERSONALLY I THINK SHE'LL STAY TILL SOMETHING BETTER COMES ALONG...AND THEN CHRIS DOES MAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY...

  16. She needs to stop pushing those cleanses. They are just plain unhealthy. An occasional fasting, maybe but not that junk she promotes.

  17. She's always trying to lose weight, but when does she actually gain it?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Is this the same woman who recommended a baby food cleanse to Aniston? Maybe that would explain Goopy's diaper look.

  19. It seems like the weight she considers a tremendous gain would be the five to ten, or twenty, vanity pounds that the rest of us deal with. She lives in cities, so it's not as though she has to drive anywhere--she is lucky enough to have most things be within walking distance. Sadly I don't have that, so I have to force myself to walk before and after work. It's not fun, but it prevents me from whining about any vanity pounds I may have gained on my blog.

I was reading some news coverage on Nashville and wondering if she'd said anything concerning the horrendous damage that has been done to the city.

  20. She is too self-centered to acknowledge Nashville's disaster. On the flip side, have Keith and Nicole said anything? They live there, don't they?

  21. @ Ariel - Are you serious? Her newsletter is a pretentious load of twaddle. And why doesn't she allow comments? Because she knows she'd get flamed royally. She's well known for being rude, uppity and elitist. Kathy Griffin has some Paltrow stories in her monologues and how she finds it impossible to laugh at herself.

Paltrow is obviously obsessed with her appearance and hides her mania for dieting by calling it a different name, "cleanse". We are not fooled.

  22. Forgot to add that Goop could lose a quick 5 pounds by getting rid of that stupid bow around her neck. WTF was she thinking???

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Mango - and to quote last week's episode of Glee: She could consider ditching the attitude. There are probably a couple of pounds in that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Patty, I know several country stars had flood damage at their homes, and several more lost most of their touring equipment (including Keith Urban) because the storage facility they use was underwater. Things have been very crazy here!

  25. RQ, that line from Glee was awesome!!!

  26. Can you say "eating disorder"? People who are that obsessed with their digestion and every little pound have disordered eating. http://www.oa.org
