50 Cent Pulls A Matt Damon
Last night I posted the photo above on my Facebook page because I could not stop staring at it. 50 Cent can be one dedicated actor. He lost 54 pounds in 9 weeks from 214 to 160. That is almost a pound a day everyday for over two months. He did it by only drinking liquids and taking 3 hour walks everyday on a treadmill. I bet he watched a lot of movies while doing that.
He lost the weight for his role as a football player who dies of cancer. Now that we know the ending I guess we don't need to watch the movie. This is the kind of dedication though that gets you Oscar nominations.
It worked for Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull but it didn't work for Matt Damon who lost 40 pounds off his 155 pound frame for Courage Under Fire. It did get him more work though.
Is it ever really worth it? Yeah, that's dedication. Not sure if I would do it.
ReplyDeleteHis head is shaped like a lightbulb.
ReplyDeleteHe looks like he's got a case of the slims.
ReplyDeleteWhat an immensely large head.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that is the same dude. I hope his movie is great. That is some mad dedication.
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale did it for The Machinist, & he looks like a concentration camp victim in the movie. Only time I've ever really seen him look bad--and it was VERY bad.
ReplyDeleteThe skinny 50 pic makes him look like the real-life version of the crackhead Dave Chappelle played on Chappelle Show. I hope he hasn't ruined his health for life!
YIKES!
ReplyDeleteIf nothing else it's great advertisement for the movie.
ReplyDeleteCollin Farrell did it for some movie but I didn't see the movie and I don't know the name of it.
I agree, I hope he hasn't done any permanent damage to his health.
@not on my dollar The Collin Farrell movie is Triage. I saw it at the Toronto Film Fest last year and highly recommend it.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm with you -- I wonder about the permanent damage actors cause their bodies when they do this.
I agree that Colin Farrell and Christian Bale are better examples than Matt Damon, Enty. Matt was an unknown before "Courage Under Fire."
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget Adrien Brody starved himself to an Oscar for The Pianist...being 6'2" and going from 160 (which is still pretty damn skinny) to 130 in 6 weeks is rough, to say the least. (At one point he was joking that he'd gone on the War Zone diet rather than the Zone.) And, IIRC, didn't Toni Collette gain 30-40 pounds for Muriel's Wedding, and Minnie Driver for Circle of Friends? (And if Minnie in that movie is supposed to be the fat girl, then I want to be THAT kind of fat, damn it!) It's got to be hard on the system to gain or lose a fair amount of weight like that, and I do hope all of these actors have bounced back and not done themselves any permanent harm.
ReplyDeletei remember reading that damon had problems with his heart after loosing all that weight. it really doesn't seem healthy, especially since he will like put it all back on after the movie wraps.
ReplyDeleteserious dedication though i give him props. that must have taken an incredible amount of self control and persistence.
oh, and he looks scary. like the real life dave chappelle crack head.
@ wenx - ah you beat me to it!
ReplyDelete@wenx Dave Chappelle was my first thought as well!!
ReplyDeleteI think it puts his body in a lot of pressure, muscle tissue even from organs are very weak and it could lead to a heart attack.
Sounds healthy! His internal organs must be singing tunes of joy!
ReplyDeleteThe Machinist was crazy - I would be cranky as fuck starving myself like this. Worked for DeNiro, worked for Theron, who knows?
ReplyDeleteI actually think Fitty is a pretty decent actor, and this seems to suggest he's taking this new career seriously.
Well, I now understand why Fifty always wears a hat. His skull is terrifying.
ReplyDeleteMatt Damon or Christian Bale never were nominated for their skinny characters.
ReplyDeleteYou aren't recognized for your dedication .
Lose Weight isn't an Oscar Gimmick.
He looks SO bad. How is he not dead?? And I had no clue he was an actor? Where have i been?
ReplyDeleteLOL I thought of Tyrone Biggums (Dave Chappelle's crackhead) when I saw this too...is he going to go teach a class how to do drugs? LOL
ReplyDeleteLooks like he's down to 25.
