Do We Really Need To Know This?
Mo'Nique's brother was on Oprah yesterday and as much as I have to say his apologies were long overdue, I am not sure I really needed or wanted to know what he was saying. It was kind of like Mackenzie Phillips last year. Mo'Nique's brother admitted what Mo'Nique has always claimed. She has said that her older brother molested her. Her brother says that he started molesting her when she was about 7 years old and that it was because he was molested himself and that he was hooked on drugs at the age of 11. Why does he feel the need to share this? I agree he and his sister should talk about it or he should be talking to the police about it, but why oh why do we need to hear about it? Now, everytime Mo'Nique is somewhere, people will ask her about it and how it has affected her life. Yes, she has talked about it before, but it was never on Oprah. I think the guy just wanted some attention and what could be better than going on Oprah.
Because she is NOW an Oscar award winning actress and he is trying to make a buck/name for himself, thats why.
ReplyDeleteSo Oprah is making money and getting viewers out of Monique's demons. Good for you, Oprah. She makes me sick.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Monique okayed this. She did, by the way. She gave it her blessing. Again, not sure why, but hey, at least she got to take her power back by bestowing her permission.
ReplyDeleteSo was he the one who molested her or was it a different brother?
ReplyDeleteHe's probably trying to figure out how to make money off of it now.
ReplyDeleteThey are both trying to stand out more. Obviously the brother wants publicity and M'onique, well publicity is always good (as they say).
ReplyDeleteenty, you know how many came out or came forward as being victims of abuse since Mackenzie's story? lots.
ReplyDeletei too am tired of Oprah's circle jerk of molesters this year, but ANY light that can be shined on such a shameful and tragic thing to happen to a child or teen...is good thing by me. i've known too many people who were victims who lived in silence in horrible, tortured lives.
"there is no jail cell more secure than a secret."
I don't understand why Oprah would have him on the show if Monique didn't want to be a part of it. As an incest survivor would Oprah appreciate it if the person who raped her went on talk shows and said he was sorry? Hell no!
ReplyDeleteOprah's guest list is now out of control. She is only concentrating on her ratings and it's probably a good thing that she's going to cable tv.
Oh and I forgot to add Monique doesn't need to talk to her brother. He keeps saying that now that he's officially apologized they need to talk to bring the family together. Who the hell is he to decide when they should start talking again?
ReplyDeleteThey both need counseling but Oprah didn't suggest that because SHE has never had counseling for her abuse.
I watched 5 minutes of it and was so disgusted and turned it off. He was basically whining that he was victimized by Mo'Niqe for talking about to Barbara Walters.
ReplyDeleteWell fuckhead if you hadn't victimized her FIRST maybe your monkey ass wouldn't of been put on blast on national television.
He came off like a typical sociopath. Mimicing feelings to gain sympathy. Oprah didn't seem to fall for it but she did treat him with respect. Oh, and he was proud of the fact he ONLY molested 2 children. Die creep.
On today's Oprah....
ReplyDeleteOctomom.
Do we really need to know this?
Monkey ass? uh...
ReplyDeleteshe okd it????? Strange
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteoh i wasn't being racist. Calm down race police.
ReplyDeleteIt's offensive. Sue me.
ReplyDeletebut you had to say monkey ass....really.
ReplyDeleteif it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck...walks like a duck...most likely a duck.
Apple, weren't you the one who referred to East Indian people as "dot-heads" a while back?
ReplyDeleteMo'Nique okayed the inteview only because she said that she hoped it helped women who were sexually abused be able to talk about. I saw the Barbara Walters interview where she discussed it (which sorry, Enty, is probably just as public a forum as Oprah), and she was candid. She said she'd gotten over it, but that he was sorry she was upset- which isn't the same as being sorry. And essentially what I got from all of this was that he's sorry she did that interview, but that his actions weren't his fault. Which really... just makes me sadder for him, and happier for her. She did Precious because of her life, and because she wanted to make it known that sexual abuse in families is more common than we'd like. He's just doing this because he isn't happy that she's talking about it and doesn't want to be known as "that guy."
ReplyDeleteI'm with jax on this. Not only did Mon'ique okay this, Oprah isn't entirely insensitive to molestation having been molested herself. However, this brother should go away now.
ReplyDeleteI remember that dot-head comment - fucking offensive whoever it was.
Yes Sporky and that is what they have on their heads a dot. Wow you guys can be racist sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHe needs to money to get those things off his face. Karma is real!
ReplyDeletemonkey ass means stupid people. I call all stupid people monkey asses. If you want to be racist about it go ahead.
ReplyDeleteApple, you give the rest of us a bad name. Your thinking is so skewed. For real.
ReplyDeleteright I do, its called just a joke. Lighten up. You started the nonesense with the monkey comment. Really uncalled for.
ReplyDeletelol! Is Apple actually trying to call those of us who don't refer to Indian people as dot-heads racist?? That hilarious.
ReplyDeleteOh, I see you're using the Scott Baio racism-deflection device.
ReplyDeleteNext you'll be telling us you can't be racist because you have black friends.
Carry on.
If you read it in the context it was put it in. You would get it Rocket Queen. It was about an actress lying about her heritage. But whateves.
ReplyDeleteFunny you think Monkey means racist. If you have evil in your heart you see evil I guess.
ReplyDeleteGeeze,It was just a joke Apple made, lighten up everybody. This world is so PC now I could vomit.
ReplyDeleteI graduated high school about 10 years ago, so I'm not getting into a "you started it, no you started it" argument with you. What you said, and say, is offensive to some people. If you're going to interact with people in society, you're going to have to learn to filter things, otherwise you're going to have a tough road to hoe.
ReplyDeleteWait so since you started it. You don't want to be told you started it. Thank you Becki. What is offensive is saying something with the N word. Which I did not. I just think you took a big arrogant stretch. What I find offensive is people wanting to feel superior to others comments. Truly I am offended.
ReplyDeleteAt first I didn't get the dot-head comment but now I do. Sometimes I am slow in getting sarcastic remarks LOL.
ReplyDeleteSo you are saying...its not nigger therefore its not racists....really...that's a good one.
ReplyDeleteI wish you would go to a black person and call them monkey/monkey ass in their face.....
I didn't even know Monique was molested as a child...I don't know what I would have done if I was in her place. I really don't know....but good thing she is moving on w/ her life.
20% of people have been sexually abused by the time they are 18 and a good majority of the time it is usually done by a family member or family friend...I think less than 5 % of the time its done by strangers.
I still wish she'd shave her legs.
ReplyDeleteAgain, it is really shitty you are seeing something racist that isn't racist. But that is your deep seated issues. Not mine.
ReplyDeleteYes, I call my freinds monkey ass when they are being stupid. Black, White Chinese. My BLACK freinds are the one who started Monkey Ass. It is just funny thing to say. Sad, you all have to be so racist about it. And really disgusting of you Vanessa to speak like that. Hope you get help for your racial fears.
Really shitty to come here and you all talk shit about celebs. But make one little off the cuff comment and some of you get on your high horse. Thank you to those that get it was just joking and not PC obsessed.
Oh well, i'll just stick to Dlisted where people are really funny.
Apple out.
Wooooah. This thread. Wow.
ReplyDeleteGuys, i call people "monkey" as a term of affection. Is that bad??? I had no idea "monkey" was considered racist?? I call babies and adults that. Please enlighten me. I have also heard people say "Monkey ass" meaning "stupid ass" but having no reflection on the person's skin color?? I guess you learn somethin' new every day here. ;)
@MontanaMarriott - Exactly
1 out of 5 people are molested??? I want to see the stats on that because I am not believing it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid and being an out-of-control brat, my dad called it "showing my butt," I assume referring to a baboon when it displays its scarlet cheeks for attention. That wasn't racist (unless it was white on white racism) so maybe it's not in this context either. However, I'm white, Mo'Nique's brother is black, so the parameters are completely different, and I understand why people would take offense at the statement.
ReplyDelete* 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18.
ReplyDelete* 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18.
* 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet.
* Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under.
* An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today.
* Nearly 70% of child sex offenders have between 1 and 9 victims; at least 20% have 10 to 40 victims.
* An average serial child molester may have as many as 400 victims in his lifetime.
From the Darkness to Light website.
There are a lot of us out there. And these statistics are just from the abuse REPORTED.
*sigh*
I think he is STILL trying to control Mo'Nique. By wanting her to talk to him and have a family chat. I think he is still trying to control her response to him.
ReplyDeleteAs for Oprah she would NEVER want her molester having a chat in a public forum.
