What Do You Think?

On what looks to be the Brazilian version of X Factor, an 8 year old girl sings a Lady GaGa song. Nothing really wrong with that. However, she also dresses and moves like Lady GaGa complete with crawling on the stage while singing. I'm not so sure about that. Part of me says this is just an 8 year old girl singing a song, but the other part of me says this is all kinds of wrong. The audience and judges don't seem to think there is anything wrong with it, but I am thinking that maybe they should let the kid grow up and think about doing it at a much later age.

  1. wow, this went viral fast. i've gotten it in my inbox a lot today. actually, she 'sings' two songs. (bad romance, papparazzi)...the judges are really into her too. at the end, the one that had been the toughest on her goes on and on about her 'talent' and how wonderful it was. freaks. it's brought up the argument, in latin media today, about the sexualization of children so early on. interesting debates. we complain about the US being so 'puritanical' in its attitudes towards nudity and sex...but if you saw how children are sexualized in LatAm countries (and i'm talking all 22 countries)...'innocently' via clothing and children's products...many of us would be thanking the US for its 'puritanical' views.

  2. This stuff makes me sick. The more I see of the sexualization of children, the angrier it makes me! No wonder pedophiles are rampant right now, children are put out there in these situations. Where are their parents? when did it become okay to have a young child behave like a whore and then told they have talent. No wonder young girls think they can only make something of themselves by giving it all away!!! Sorry, this makes me so upset. rant over

  5. cibele, while it is in portuguese, it's the brazilian franchise of 'Qual é o seu Talento? (what is your talent?)'. i'm guesing you got that now, hence the posts deletion.

  6. This is horrible. Not only is it entirely unappropriate for a young child to be singing and dancing like Lady Gaga but the child can't sing!

  7. This kind of thing makes me afraid to have children. Will I have to keep them inside all of the time to keep them away from predators? I remember that there were always the flirty young girls who I went to elementary school with but they were never put on display to the whole world. Or celebrated! I believe our teachers used to make them pull their dresses down from over their heads and sit in time out.

  8. I dont know...i am brazilian and most of my people enjoy the whole "brilliant kids emulanting adults stuff|

i showed this video to my husband, that is german, and that made him almost vomit too..

her dessing and make up are not that bad...it is almost the kind of ballet class uniform , in Brasil....
and she is actually pretty nice singing....but the crawling, it is a little too much for her age, i agree

Funny thing is that she is a kid, and she is doing all the lady Gaga routine, but she does it as a kid would do it, without sex in it. And even funnier is that the jury told her that her singing was awesome, professional, but her dancing was sloppy!! hahah...she is a kid, she cannot pull that out!

  9. I don't know what what offends me more...a child out there acting like that or the fact that she is imitating Lada Gaga of all people. Oh...and her voice! Nails on a chalkboard!

  10. I saw this a few hours ago on Dlisted...i think if she were doing it in the privacy of her own home, in front of the TV or something, i'd say it was just innocent impersonation. I used to spend hours trying to learn Britney's dance routines, although i was probably double her age. And i've said too much.
Difference is, my parents didn't put me on TV to get judged for it.

  11. Double this girls age i meant, not double Britney's age...now THAT would be a bit weird.

  12. It's very odd. I know when I was a kid of about 10, I used to imitate Madonna. I didn't understand anything I was doing of course. I didn't get the lyrics, I was just mimicking her. But the difference being, no one witnessed it.

I hate the sexualization of children these days. I don't think the kid understand anything she is doing or probably even singing, she probably learned the lyrics phonetically. But it's still wrong and shouldn't be encouraged.

  13. I'm more offended that the child can't carry a tune to save her life.

  14. What's that show called, "The Ick Factor"? I know a woman, a good woman I think, and a very devout Christian, but she put her kid in all those little kid pageants with the costumes and the make-up and I totally didn't get it. But what ever she was thinking, my friend is no pedophile. But I still think it's weird.

  15. I agree with what Aimee said, it would be somewhat innocent if it was in the privacy of her home in front of a tv, but this is actually ON tv for everyone to see. That's when I think it becomes exploitative. I did the same kind of thing with the Spice Girls. Horribly embarrassing haha

  16. i second that, missy. its just awful

  17. The kid doesn't understand what she is singing - it's absolutely clear in the video. Neither the parents do understand, by the way. I don't mind the singing, but I do mind the heavy make-up and the clothes. At ballet classes in Brazil, I remember my sister always using a tutu, and the other girls in the class as well. And Lady Gaga wore lighter make-up, why the girl has to wear something so heavy?!

  18. Lord, didn't they have that scandal in Brazil about the 7 year old girl being the Carnival Queen? Totally ridiculous, but it is clearly a cultural norm that is disturbing.

I remember singing "Like a Virgin" with my sister (I was 7 my sister was 9) in the back of our station wagon, and my dad just turning the radio off and calmly turning around telling us not to sing that song again. I didn't really understand the lyrics and looking back on it, my dad must have been freaking out on the inside lol.

  19. I agree with Priscilla. She's a little girl singing her favourite songs, dancing as a little girl would to those songs. At least she isn't wearing "Juicy" across her butt and acting provocative. I've seen a Moxie Girl commercial far worse than what this little girl has shown us.

What should really happen is that there needs to be an age limit on shows like these.

  20. I think I'll skip this one, thanks. When 'The Soup' shows clips from the kiddie pageant reality shows, I literally get sick to my stomach. So wrong.

  21. I'm of 2 minds on this myself.
First, it's adorable that an 8 year old is doing a talent show.
However...her choice of material is wildly inappropriate for someone her age.
This had to be engineered and choreographed by her mother, which is something that I cannot fathom.
My 2 year old grandbaby does the most adorable dance to the Black Eyed Peas "Boom boom boom" (I don't know the song but that's the chorus) but if her mother even *THOUGHT* of doing something like this to her, I'd wring her neck like a chicken - provided of course her own mother didn't do it first.
