Which champion climber -- social and otherwise -- is moving on after her latest husband suffered financial setbacks with the help of her conspicuous consumption? Their friends are sticking with him.

Tamra from RHOC. ;)
ReplyDeleteI know this can't be her because she doesn't fit the married part, but I can totally see this being Juliana Hough (or whatever her name is...from DWTS) in a few years.
ReplyDeleteProbably most of those reality tv people would fit because I think money and exposure are the only reasons to be on one of those shows!
when I read this yesterday, I thought it might be Tinsley Mortimer.
ReplyDeleteThere was a socialite on the fatal expedition Jon Krakauer wrote about in he book Into the Air,she survived but much of the climbing party didn't. I can't think of her name but she divorced her husband when she got back and married another wealthy man, and she would fit. Old what's her name...
ReplyDeleteSandy Pitman.
ReplyDeleteSandy Hill Pitman Dittmer.
ReplyDeleteShe has moved from the Santa Ynez Valley, where Tom contiues to live.
Gorgeous house and ranch.
FTW, Sandy Hill Pitman Dittmer.
ReplyDeleteSandy. Space tourism might cost more $$$ but physically its easier than Everest tourism. Climbers understand why Sandy was on that mountain, but she epitomizes why Scott, Rob, et al died.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if Sandy is the answer to the blind, and don't have any other ideas who might be, but I distinctly remember David Brashears (another well-known climber who, IIRC, helped rescue some of the survivors from that Everest expedition) criticizing Jon Krakauer's take on Sandy in Into Thin Air--he pointed out that she wasn't anywhere near the climbing incompetent Krakauer claimed, as she'd already summitted the highest peaks on every other continent, and that while one might need some help on Everest, in the end you have to get yourself up & back, which she did. He also had some interesting comments to make about the guide who stayed w/the clients on the mountain & was regarded as heroic for doing so, the gist of which was that if you get someone into that kind of predicament through your own foolishness, you'd damn well better be prepared to stay with them to the bitter end. Harsh, yes, but seeing as he knows firsthand how dangerous Everest is, I'm going to assume that he knows at least some of what he's talking about.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened on Everest was a tragedy, but I'm w/Brashears on this one--blaming the "rich bitch" is grossly unfair, and lets everyone else off the hook re: the whole messy business of Everest tourism.
Ha Zandra! Good old whats-her-name! I said the same thing.
ReplyDelete"Rich bitch" or not. Who knows other than her rich ex-husbands? But it can be little doubt that the lady in question is the infamous Sandy Hill. Tom is charming and she is less so. Much less. The fact that all the friends stick with Tom is a testament to that fact. Sandy herself now spends her time social climbing in Los Angeles, trying to summit another rich husband.
