i have to say my faith in the Academy is restored after all the wins The Hurt Locker received. so well deserved.
ReplyDeletei loved the fact that James Cameron seemed happy when Kathryn Bigelow won for best director and then looked a little shocked when she won for Best Picture. Ha! Eat it Jim!!
highlights for me were Sandra Bullock's eloquent speech and the fact that Ben Stiller totally bombed.
"the DUDE" fu@&ing abides!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved Sandy's speech, too. Very gracious and heartfelt, and loved how she gave a shoutout to each nominee. That is CLASS.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of class, wtf was up with Clooney? Way to let the world see you're a prick. Huge turnoff.
i think Clooney was just kidding around and was playing up the schtick Martin and Baldwin had going on...
ReplyDeletethat's how i took it anyways
I was so happy The Hurt Locker won!!! Great movie!
ReplyDeleteI think Clooney was kidding around.
Hated his hair last night.
Don't you hate it when more than one person wins an award, and one person always has to hog the microphone!!! Selfish!
I was so happy when The Dude won! it was well deserve. I think Inglorious Basterds got robbed for the screenplay. Still, It was so good to see James Cameron face!!... it shows that a lot of money doesn't make up for the content of a movie
ReplyDeleteI didn't see most of the nominated movies but there had to have been better movies that The Hurt Locker released last year. It wasn't bad but it didn't seem like anything special to me. Sure it was tense but how could it not be tense with the main character defusing bombs? A soldier who only feels alive when he's in a war & can't deal with the boredom of regular life? Not exactly a new insight or theme for war movies. Also, haven't there been hundreds of macho, go-it-alone, takes risks & unorthodox but is the best at what he does characters (i.e., Dirty Harry, Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon)?
ReplyDeleteHurt Locker was a good movie, but not an Oscar calliber movie. i freakin loved that she won over avatar tho.
ReplyDeletei saw very few oscar movies this year, but the whole season was so...Meh. Sandra Bullock winning for Blind side? really? i liked it the first time when it was called Erin Brokovitch. whatevs.
Ben Stiller's bombing--WHILE looking like a complete idiot--was the highlight of the show for me.
ReplyDeleteFor those who haven't seen District 9 make sure to see it. I am still shocked by how much I really liked it.
ReplyDeleteMy Christoph Waltz won, so I'm very happy.
ReplyDeleteVery happy with the results last year. I made a point to see almost all the movies and thought that NONE of the movies were really "Best Picture" calibre, so Hurt Locker as winner was just fine by me.
ReplyDeleteAgree that George was playing up the "not impressed" looks with Steve and Alec - I think it was arranged in advance. I thought they were very funny, by the way.
And yes, loved watching Stiller bomb and loved Sandy's speech. Also, Stanley Tucci's tribute/introduction for Meryl was great :)
My favorite part of the whole night was the John Hughes tribute. When Matthew Broderick said "Danke schoen" at the end, I almost sobbed out loud.
ReplyDeleteWhoops, I meant THIS year!
ReplyDeleteI still need to see the half I didn't get a chance to watch before last night! Enty, don't be mad but I didn't LOVE Hurt Locker. I might try and watch it again and see if I change my mind.
ReplyDeleteI still have not seen Blind Side but Sandra Bullock is my favorite so I was so thrilled she won. She is tops, in my book.
Jeff Bridges acceptance speech made me cry. So sweet.
I didn't watch the program, but I'm relatively satisfied with the winners. Maybe I'm just satisfied that Avatar won so few awards (and only the two where it was really a contender).
ReplyDeleteagree with everything empyrios said.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Sasha Baron Cohen decided not to appear in that bit with Ben Stiller was because it SUCKED??
Also thought Steve and Alec were hilarious.
Agree that it was prearranged that Clooney would look steely eyed when Steve and Alec directed comments at him. Clooney is well known for his sense of humor.
Did anyone notice that Farrah Fawcett was not honored during the Memorium portion, but Michael Jackson was mentioned? Neither one was a movie star per se, but I think Farrah should have been named.
